"snares" poems
In my mind, I raced against time I smoked peyote with the Apache I chased Kangaroos Through the bush with the Aborigine All the while ...I searched for the power within me In my mind, I outpaced time I drew cave art with the Neanderthal I climbed to the top of the mountain with the Sherpa I hunted seal out on the frozen tundra with the Inuit All the while ...I searched for the power within me In my mind, I eclipsed time I wrote poetry while under the tutelage of Langston Hughes And I created visual greatness while apprentice to Gordon Parks I even stood on the wall with Che' Guevara, like a Sentry standing watch All the while ...I continued searching for the power within me In my mind, I turned to face time I wrote an addendum to the Emancipation Proclamation And I saw the ugly truths Of freedom's farcical Declaration All the while ...I continued searching for the power within me In my mind, I embraced time I sought to free my nation from the pandemic perils of ******* And I prayed that we Americans would be free of The snares of racial and economic divide that still has us chained I did this while searching for truth, in this, our most tenuous hour ...then empyreally, God reached for me, touching me, and I finally found my power * Reprinted from 'Exegesis a Decade of Poetry by Mekael' © July 14, 2009 by Mekael Shane

My Power
"O poor, unthinking human heart! Error will not go away, logic and reason are slow to penetrate. We cling with both arms to false hope, refusing to believe the weightiest proofs against it, embracing it with all our strength. In the end it escapes, ripping our veins and draining our heart's blood; until, regaining consciousness, we rush to fall into snares of delusion all over again." Rabindranath Tagore , The Postmaster

A quote from "The Postmaster"
The divine walkway To the river-side Has began to warp in Singing and whooping with love, But I was in the palace To witness the examination, See how the evening sky Has suffered with crimson And delight, awaiting The gorgeous joy of the dawn, How can the nations Begin this monthly journey With a broken arm? The old gossip proclaimed that Mother Africa caused the *** to burst into loud wails Early on that faithful morning, Whiles the companions took No pain to grace the occasion, Oh gosh, is that the time? Is that an absolute Gospel of the gory spectacle? Indeed, we need to offer Sacrifices of praise To propitiate the gods, Let the gracious protocol begin! Mothers, please cover That beautiful black skin With that sunblock sheabutter cream, And cover that gracious hips With that piece of kente cloth, My dear, please Taste the sacred food And swallow the egg also, For sitting on a golden stool Which stands on a precious mat, Has become good news for the ancestors, Now perceive this, When the moonlight slipped Past the curled edges Of the shades of nature, and The children faces gleamed, I knew I had Fallen victim to the sensual Lures and snares of the Twin towers protruding From your glorious chest, You have indeed kindled The eternal flame within me, My black eternal beauty, You are truly A fine African woman. © PRINCE NANA ANIN-AGYEI Email: [email protected]

VIVID LOVE (BRAGORO - PUBERTY RITES)
Tentacles with impressive girth From space, rain down to Earth In furious flurry, birthing A new reign of terror Oy vey! Scream the globalist elite Suspended in animation As throbbing veins, Snares, entangling Penetrate their every orifice Nonconsensually

Tentacle Erotica
**Moving past the shuttered mind that shuns imagination I seek a stimulating thought a cause for exhultation. It hovers there like hummingbirds whose entry I deny. And yet I see the imagery and heave a heartfelt sigh. It teases me and mocks me as it dodges every grasp Laughing at my efforts to retrieve it with each clasp. Yet empty air is my reward. My snares are all in vain. I close my eyes and meditate for inspiration's gain. An empty net a vacant trap the target still eludes. Perhaps tomorrow try again away from darker moods.**

An Empty Net
I am the zombie of Tinkerbell Her living corpse Dress sparkles all faded Tinkling like a broken bell My fairy dust no longer brings children the gift of flight But endows my prey with the curse of second life That I may twice devour their Squirming, wriggling, Writhing, scriggiling Flesh Just the way I like it With a wide dark grin across my face Teeth stained with blood and broken into points Eyes dim, dull, and hallowed Skin sallow and torn by the fighters, Who battle for their death Combatting the loss of their dignity I lure them in with stale illusions and sickly sweet snares Torn wings are no match for swift feet, but I manage Pushed onwards, pulled forwards by a need, urge To devour, consume, and engorge myself Again with tender meat And imbibe upon the sharp lifeblood Of faerie. For I, am the zombie Tinkerbell, and I hunger. It's dinner time...

Tinkerbell zombie
Cosmic kraken, gelatinous tentacles that choke the ventricles.. air tainted by its pungent pores... daylight darkens, its presence hearkens, for the light to shine no more... Heart is hardened vestigial veins with not blood but pain... wrinkled cartilage writhes at lore.. of the divine despair I now come to bear, graces this unworthy ***** "I beg I pardon! spare me the road to your celestial abode!"... whispered screams that scrape throat raw... silence snares... at my futile affairs... with the sadistic nexus between doors... "Oh I cannot fathom creature with unworldly features... and blade fashioned from nebulous ore... what terrors await... and to permeate.... my flesh forevermore!"

your deepest scars lie in your brain where i cannot kiss them until you let me make-better kit, you've trusted hands to pet you and trotted into snares more than once and now there's a vast expanse of "come on out now, you're safe from harm" far as the eye can see wide open green and golden this-is-really-good but you're haunted by steel and teeth throwing you to the ground a pain memory that makes you bite until the ecosystem i built cannot remember how to make flowers. let the earth i've grown need you without fear of what anchors you let the sky i've thrown adore you without suspicion of why it's bothered to watch little fox, let me cultivate this garden around us because it's a good one more beautiful with you the deepest scars lie in your brain where i cannot kiss them. Let me make-better because i'm made better by you let me keep you, little fox and i'll grow you flowers the most beautiful you've ever seen unto this little earth gilded with trees like the owl and the pussycat my fox and me.

Dans le fond des forêts votre image me suit. RACINE There is a panther stalks me down: One day I'll have my death of him; His greed has set the woods aflame, He prowls more lordly than the sun. Most soft, most suavely glides that step, Advancing always at my back; From gaunt hemlock, rooks croak havoc: The hunt is on, and sprung the trap. Flayed by thorns I trek the rocks, Haggard through the hot white noon. Along red network of his veins What fires run, what craving wakes? Insatiate, he ransacks the land Condemned by our ancestral fault, Crying: blood, let blood be spilt; Meat must glut his mouth's raw wound. Keen the rending teeth and sweet The singeing fury of his fur; His kisses parch, each paw's a briar, Doom consummates that appetite. In the wake of this fierce cat, Kindled like torches for his joy, Charred and ravened women lie, Become his starving body's bait. Now hills hatch menace, spawning shade; Midnight cloaks the sultry grove; The black marauder, hauled by love On fluent haunches, keeps my speed. Behind snarled thickets of my eyes Lurks the lithe one; in dreams' ambush Bright those claws that mar the flesh And hungry, hungry, those taut thighs. His ardor snares me, lights the trees, And I run flaring in my skin; What lull, what cool can lap me in When burns and brands that yellow gaze? I hurl my heart to halt his pace, To quench his thirst I squander blook; He eats, and still his need seeks food, Compels a total sacrifice. His voice waylays me, spells a trance, The gutted forest falls to ash; Appalled by secret want, I rush From such assault of radiance. Entering the tower of my fears, I shut my doors on that dark guilt, I bolt the door, each door I bolt. Blood quickens, gonging in my ears: The panther's tread is on the stairs, Coming up and up the stairs.

in Scotland fair you must beware the weathered moor at night For it is said a thing of dread hunts neath it's pale moon light It's small and stout and loves to shout and scare the tiny mice It kicks the trees to wake the bees because it is not nice it runs amok through herd and flock and makes the chickens fly Then opens gates and shakes lose slates and takes pigs from the sty It up roots crops and spills the hops and dances in the flour Though rarely seen its really mean and turns the fresh milk sour It squashes flat each butter pat and mixers wheat with grain then ups and screams to spoil your dreams and runs away again The Haggis see is wild and free and likes to cause such fun Breaks traps and snares and frees the hares and helps them to their run The hunting hound that sniffs the ground Will never find his scent because he sweats sweet Vi-o-lets to cover where he went The Heathered moor and rains that pour wash away his tracks and he's not scared he is prepared for haggis run in packs With teeth and claws and snapping jaws they are a sight to see So think before you seek that moor where they run wild and free

PART I: ADRIFT Madness passed Misery and bumped into me. We travel together now, Islands lost at sea. Ahead, Tomorrow rides, pinned to the sunrise. Yesterday dogs us, marking our tides. Empty atolls pass on windborne paths. Now homes to only bones; more dead outcasts. The Ocean never laments or attempts to make sense. We just wander across it until living relents. PART II: VAGRANT Lagoon to lagoon, harboring my tether. Giving me shelter from daily storms. Lost in the masts, a paper boat. Taking on water... as expected. A lucky hook snares the soggy craft. Dried and opened: a cry for          . When no reply came, a folded flotilla Whitened the water, a cry now screaming. This harbor now empties. My travels resume. PART III: DREAM The sea fades to gulls, and then, a delta rushed with mountainfulls. I've become a salmon fighting upstream, an island lost in a riverbed dream.

In the wild confusion of my life, I saw your face A kind countenance making bright my days Through rugged tracks when I stumbled along I felt an unseen hand holding me strong When bewildered by the horrid scenes of death You assured that life extends beyond mortal breath When lost in the dank and dark alley of wickedness You diverted my steps into the well lit path of righteousness When I gloated over my own trivial accomplishments You reminded me of my littleness through mild chastisements When I lost myself in the grip of vanity You opened my inner eye to restore my sanity When tossed by the currents of fiery storms Lord! You made me seek the safety of your arms When drowning in the sea of escalating pain You sustained and strengthened me and kept me sane Many got wiped out from the face of the Earth Without seeing the New Year’s birth Thank you for allowing me to see this glorious dawn ‘Extend your hand’, I pray, for me to hold on! Make me feel, you are there in every rhythm of my life More when life becomes burdensome with problems rife Over the arid deserts and the stormy turbulent sea I pray to be by my side as an abiding presence, piloting me My Lord! Without you my life will be in peril Never let me fall into the snares of the devil Do not desert me, stay by my side now and ever Be my guiding light and sanctify my every endeavor!

Be by My Side
Born in a spiders web So silky and neat Spreading over her crown To her tiny, pink feet A family of spiders Scuttled and stalked Weaving their way Through dust and chalk As the baby grew The web threatened to break But they repaired and spun Around her like snakes She was different to them So innocent and pure They tried to trap her spirit With lies, secrets and lures The child, now a teen Succumb to their ways Her truth unspoken The web's now a maze She knew no love No heart or care Just lies and jealousy A world of traps and snares Through the tunnel she shuffled In front of her stood A girl just like her Someone she understood This girl smiled and unwrapped her From many years of web From her bare, mucky feet To the top of her head What freedom she felt! She smiled and laughed It echoed in bright lights Through the tunnels and shafts The spiders squealed in the light Angry and eight eyes blind They could no longer contain her No longer bind The girls escaped together Hands held and then she knew This was all I ever needed Love from me to you

At my side the Demon writhes forever, Swimming around me like impalpable air; As I breathe, he burns my lungs like fever And fills me with an eternal guilty desire. Knowing my love of Art, he snares my senses, Appearing in woman's most seductive forms, And, under the sneak's plausible pretenses, Lips grow accustomed to his lewd love-charms. He leads me thus, far from the sight of God, Panting and broken with fatigue into The wilderness of Ennui, deserted and broad, And into my bewildered eyes he throws Visions of festering wounds and filthy clothes, And all Destruction's ****** retinue.

Destruction (by Charles Baudelaire)
From dark abodes to fair etherial light Th’ enraptur’d innocent has wing’d her flight; On the kind ***** of eternal love She finds unknown beatitude above. This known, ye parents, nor her loss deplore, She feels the iron hand of pain no more; The dispensations of unerring grace, Should turn your sorrows into grateful praise; Let then no tears for her henceforward flow, No more distress’d in our dark vale below, Her morning sun, which rose divinely bright, Was quickly mantled with the gloom of night; But hear in heav’n’s blest bow’rs your Nancy fair, And learn to imitate her language there. “Thou, Lord, whom I behold with glory crown’d, “By what sweet name, and in what tuneful sound “Wilt thou be prais’d? Seraphic pow’rs are faint “Infinite love and majesty to paint. “To thee let all their graceful voices raise, “And saints and angels join their songs of praise.” Perfect in bliss she from her heav’nly home Looks down, and smiling beckons you to come; Why then, fond parents, why these fruitless groans? Restrain your tears, and cease your plaintive moans. Freed from a world of sin, and snares, and pain, Why would you wish your daughter back again? No—bow resign’d. Let hope your grief control, And check the rising tumult of the soul. Calm in the prosperous, and adverse day, Adore the God who gives and takes away; Eye him in all, his holy name revere, Upright your actions, and your hearts sincere, Till having sail’d through life’s tempestuous sea, And from its rocks, and boist’rous billows free, Yourselves, safe landed on the blissful shore, Shall join your happy babe to part no more.

A chanter cracked from overuse Cheeks salt stained from shed tears Shed for those who lost their lives Lost well before their years The piper played for seventeen Who never saw their best Amazing Grace hung in the air While our hearts beat in our chests The massacre at Dunblane School took seventeen that day One teacher and lo, sixteen more Beneath a sky all streaked with grey The Pipers lips were dry and cracked And the salt burned as he cried but, he played the best he ever played For the seventeen who died The world was once their oyster But, it never saw them grow If you listen, you can hear him That lonely piper blow "Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound, That saved a wretch like me. I once was lost but now am found, Was blind, but now I see. T'was Grace that taught my heart to fear. And Grace, my fears relieved. How precious did that Grace appear The hour I first believed. Through many dangers, toils and snares I have already come; 'Tis Grace that brought me safe thus far and Grace will lead me home. The Lord has promised good to me. His word my hope secures. He will my shield and portion be, As long as life endures. Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail, And mortal life shall cease, I shall possess within the veil, A life of joy and peace." When we've been here ten thousand years Bright shining as the sun. We've no less days to sing God's praise Than when we've first begun.

The Piper at Dunblane
Soon as the sun forsook the eastern main The pealing thunder shook the heav’nly plain; Majestic grandeur! From the zephyr’s wing, Exhales the incense of the blooming spring. Soft purl the streams, the birds renew their notes, And through the air their mingled music floats. Through all the heav’ns what beauteous dies are spread! But the west glories in the deepest red: So may our ******* with ev’ry virtue glow, The living temples of our God below! Fill’d with the praise of him who gives the light, And draws the sable curtains of the night, Let placid slumbers sooth each weary mind, At morn to wake more heav’nly, more refin’d; So shall the labours of the day begin More pure, more guarded from the snares of sin. Night’s leaden sceptre seals my drowsy eyes, Then cease, my song, till fair Aurora rise.

Here we are again, in the deathmask of the city spinning. The circumcised sea with its crocodiles and scars. Never is the onrush of blood so violent the falsehoods of the sky that drip neon on our heads from desiccated clouds so true This is the wild: To the clusterfucked and cloistered swimming in their bowls of soup and the scuttled shells synchronous in their bass pulse beeping to the blackhats who don’t believe their messiah will ever come because they hear the trump of doom every second of every day yet they still stomp in their flatbeds for joy and the prismatic dead who drag themselves from their gurneys to march through the alleys like tuskless elephants shoving their fingers into the sun’s fumarole determined to disintegrate into a mist of Krylon and copper where we carry our concrete world slung over our shoulders and the ravenous moon in its ellipse above beached night heaving, eyes curling in their sockets like gunsmoke smoldering hearts humming like taut snares beheaded fish in front of us, beheaded bodies behind us I drag mine along by the hair. To the children and the panhandlers who greet the lion like hello kitty and the skittish magnetic few in their lightning-spaded furrows on the ecliptic chained but leaping ever farther and higher like the wrecking ***** pendulum and all the naked lost milling among the mummified tenements, waving Geiger counters before them as they wander  the sweaty street holding their heads high as they grind flesh against flesh pulverizing themselves into rubble measuring the toll of time by destruction   drinking in mercury and hard water and shrapnel and gamma and fire and gold to them I say: turn your hourglass on its side turn your hourglasses on their sides then acknowledge me so I can die in peace.

Where are The ecstatic saxophones that Slung forth swank slurs of Beauty, The *** *** *** Bass lines, The snaps and snares and the Sweet rhythm of the Night? Music had character And minds followed, in following Soared. There were no glittery vampires, No prepubescent Brother boy bands. Soulful crooners never Warbled over Alejandro, Or the boots with the fur, with the fur. We wrote letters and shared thoughts and ideas And convictions. There was no need for the techno Middleman To wrap our Real thoughts in LOLs To make opening Up to another More efficient. Mass media Gluttony drowns America till I strain and struggle Only to barely stay afloat In this sea of apathy. But you won't buy and sell my soul. I'm not going to Be your Consumptive, Quiet, Couldn't-care-less, I won't get in the way, And I won't raise my voice, Good American, 2.5 children, Christian, Conserva-libera-publi-crat, Self-centered, Illiterate, Ignorant Sheep Only to follow the power. **** no, I'm mad as hell; I want to leave the next generation A world where You can confess your Love and be a man or Love another man and have Basic human rights, and it all Starts in your Mind And your Expression thereof. It's the saccharine pop Culture that has Made free-thought unfashionable, a crime. Art is Revolution. Hang Up, Log Out, Unplug and just look At what you've let the World become in Letting yourself be Little more than A faceless source Of merciless dollars. Wrest free our Culture from the Calamitous and indifferent Claws of rampant capitalism. Express yourself or submit, Stand up for a free America. I will not be sold.

Cultural Doldrums
Where are The ecstatic saxophones that Slung forth swank slurs of Beauty, The *** *** *** Bass lines, The snaps and snares and the Sweet rhythm of the Night? Music had character And minds followed, in following Soared. There were no glittery vampires, No prepubescent Brother boy bands. Soulful crooners never Warbled over Alejandro, Or the boots with the fur, with the fur. We wrote letters and shared thoughts and ideas And convictions. It's raining. And people are dying. Somewhere. Everywhere. Nowhere. On television. And I don't care. And their life is static stuck in the waistband of some dude's underwear. And he scratches his ***** He's shocked and **** He calls himself a "God". He sent his son to die as a guilt trip and to spike book sales. But he's scratching his ***** And his wrist brushes against his waistband. He's pinched by the shock of electic death. It's raining. I'm sitting on the edge of my bed. Closing my eyes and pretending my feet are hanging off a shopping cart. My parents are pushing me and I'm facing my mother. She looks young enough to avoid    every thing. I don't care. I don't care. There are snares   hitting the cymbals. And there's a jazz musician. He's nodding his    head back and    forth.    Back and forth. I don't care. I don't care. It's raining. And we zoom in on God. And, clearly, I have a vendetta. Have I been subtle? He answers, "No." Did I meet a jazz musician? He shrugs, "Yeah, I guess." And the room slows down to a jumbled vibration. And he smiles. Smiling. Smiley-smile smiles. There is no ****** like the second hand. It's raining. I don't care. I don't ******* care. My dad yelling. You have daddy issues!! You ******* ***** And the room slows down to a jumbled vibration. What's true is a tumor and it grows and grows. It's raining. Music is the shout in a raindrop. The wrists we forfeit is the church of an eternal solitude. And we is I and the mixture of animal-speak that swallows my    brain. It's raining. There are joggers in the park. Their feet are smashing the cement. Slow down. They don't care. Then seven billion joggers enter the park and smash the cement. My family is unearthed: the swallowed inertia of an undying thought. It's raining.
