"shameful" poems
Bare-handed, I hand the combs. The man in white smiles, bare-handed, Our cheesecloth gauntlets neat and sweet, The throats of our wrists brave lilies. He and I Have a thousand clean cells between us, Eight combs of yellow cups, And the hive itself a teacup, White with pink flowers on it, With excessive love I enameled it Thinking 'Sweetness, sweetness.' Brood cells gray as the fossils of shells Terrify me, they seem so old. What am I buying, wormy mahogany? Is there any queen at all in it? If there is, she is old, Her wings torn shawls, her long body Rubbed of its plush ---- Poor and bare and unqueenly and even shameful. I stand in a column Of winged, unmiraculous women, Honey-drudgers. I am no drudge Though for years I have eaten dust And dried plates with my dense hair. And seen my strangeness evaporate, Blue dew from dangerous skin. Will they hate me, These women who only scurry, Whose news is the open cherry, the open clover? It is almost over. I am in control. Here is my honey-machine, It will work without thinking, Opening, in spring, like an industrious ****** To scour the creaming crests As the moon, for its ivory powders, scours the sea. A third person is watching. He has nothing to do with the bee-seller or with me. Now he is gone In eight great bounds, a great scapegoat. Here is his slipper, here is another, And here the square of white linen He wore instead of a hat. He was sweet, The sweat of his efforts a rain Tugging the world to fruit. The bees found him out, Molding onto his lips like lies, Complicating his features. They thought death was worth it, but I Have a self to recover, a queen. Is she dead, is she sleeping? Where has she been, With her lion-red body, her wings of glass? Now she is flying More terrible than she ever was, red Scar in the sky, red comet Over the engine that killed her ---- The mausoleum, the wax house.

Lets stop n slam on somethin' shameful like war and anguish... 'Cause im pretty sure that tremendous termoil and suffering and starvation is the same in all languages... But something that most of us will never know... 'Cause in this country you tend to grow a fat *** as you grow old. Give this countries cold dark history a warm embrace, look it in the face! All this killing, death, distruction, and disease...more war than peace! Something most of us will never see, much less feel...Because ignoring it is so much easier. We'd rather be pleasing ourselves than siezing the keys to this country! Jump in. Take a sunday drive for freedom. Sunday football keeps you occupied... Kicked back in the recliner, while others freeze in the name of the flag. And your constitution. And the human condition. Patriotism is not pretty to the petty. To...those getting rich, hand over fist... On your...vacant homes, vacant jobs, and vacant votes. While they vacate our education with more lousy legislation. We get lazier and sleezier and sloppier. We pass judgement on our fellow man... While we let politicians pass bills that destroy this great land. Hand over fist, hand over hand...one hand washes the other politicians **** These dinosaurs with their special interest agendas make me sick. Stand up strait. Look at me when I talk to you. Dont turn a blind eye to all the bodies that once hung from loops... Remember where we came from. Re-write history like the bible. Re-write war and peace. We call soldiers "property of uncle sam". Brainwashed to believe in 'the man' and his plans. Slavery doesn't segregate anymore. We're all in on this together. This time. We stand in unison. All in on this together. Revolution is freedom.

I whatsapped you through my nokia And is it your existence I crave? Or does my mind order What is beyond the border Unseen like the little light bulps in the sky I whatsapped you through my nokia And is it your fingertips I need? Spending minutes on Semantic and hours on our news feed And high lights of our day See my days are all the same I ask myself questions and I find answers In the shape of instant messages Vibrating through my phone; And as if it’s exhaling some deadly poison It rings and rings and rings and rings and rings and rings and stops… I whatsapped you through my nokia Asking you “you there?” But you never answered Because your iphone cannot show any whatsapp notifications Coming from hopeless thinkers trying to figure out the typed mysteries of life…. Because your blackberry Is too black to turn into a satisfactory vision Of what your future should be; Because your android Is practically messy And willingly complex Like meteor showers hitting your phone Every time the truth vibrates In the shape of unanswered questions For the answers are there… But our phones are so smart they hide it; I wahtsapped you through my nokia Asking myself Is my nokia a primitive technology? A shameful scar on the scale of science Like syringes ******* all the blood from the unstoppable sweet rush of statistical knowledge I whatsapped you through my nokia…and all this comes out Is it me being silly, or us being shallow? Please do not whatsapp me the answer For am tired of green screens And boxed spaces I need clean streams Of fine faces And eyes that glimmer Rather than phones that shiver… I shall remind my phone To remind me That I don’t need it anymore…

You sat on the other end of the table Glistening, shining, and taunting me Rosy cheeks with spurts of Yellow and Green Silently teasing A juicy, little Apple. Hopefully no one would see me, no one would pay any attention As I grabbed the treat and the knife And began to dangerously peel. I knew I was doing it wrong My hands shaking while my cheeks began to flush Embarrassed by my ignorant inadequacy. Are you left-handed? she asked from my left. Humiliation filled the corners of my eyes, wet and distraught. No, I mumbled. My cheeks reflecting Mose's Red Sea. I was beginning to drown. Your thumb needs to move, You make me nervous, and she sounded nervous indeed. Put it down here. Help yourself control it. Guide it. Everyone was staring now, the whole table awed My ignorance showing, like a medallion at my chest My shameful Apple as pathetic proof. You're doing it wrong. Non così. Basta, faccio io. Let me do it. You're about to graduate, and you can't peel an apple. I began choking, drowning in tears of Humiliation. No, let her do it the small Voice on my left said. She is finding her way. Let me watch her. I finished peeling the Apple Suffocating my tears as I ate. You remind me of Daisy, she said soon after From The Great Gatsby. I choked and laughed, more ashamed than ever. I'm not sure that is a compliment. I could barely muster a mumble. She couldn't do anything by herself. She looked at me, gentle and forgiving. I think it is, she replied Wistful and Wise. Daisy was vital to the story, you know. And I believe that given the chance, she could have done anything that she wanted On her own.

I tried, x ** something I get a lot is, “you’re too young to be a feminist.” too young to be a feminist for you’ve yet to witness a rhyme or reason to believe we lived in a patriarch-fueled society where the erectile dysfunctions of men are paid for by health care but, God forbid a woman seeks birth control to help herself God forbid a woman does anything to help herself a society where women are taught to be happy with what they can get yet to be ashamed when they get it a society where I grew up being taught not to trust a man for he’d hurt me but taught to have the house clean and his dinner on the table when he got home a society where a woman in a tank top and a pair of daisy dukes is a ***** who is asking for it” when the same woman is what’s used to market the male population who are taught that this is the woman they deserve a society where a woman is unworthy and ***** if she isn’t a ****** but a man is a man so long as he is “getting the hoes” a society where women are taught to protect their innocence and their virtue and the society where they are ostracized and ridiculed for not being ready a society where consent is hopped, skipped, and jumped around and the so called “fact” issued by Scott Johnson that says men can’t control their issues a society where a woman’s womb is not her own whether she wants this baby or not I was taught *** was shameful and wrong unless you were married but please, give him a baby and keep him satisfied we glorify teen pregnancies and ignore the accomplishments of women if I’m too young to be a feminist, then it’s quite **** sad I can point out what’s wrong in the world.

Is there an order? In there an approximation of pi circling our first awkward flirtations? Does a dragon curve lurk hidden as I caress the curvature of your spine? Where does Euclidean geometry fit in to the first time our lips met? Does the Pythagorean theorem detail our most intimate love making? A quadratic formula for the shameful discarding of punched in picture frames? Is there a golden ratio that best expresses hurried apologies and frantic entanglements between our sheets? I know for certain there was a simple subtraction on the day your tears added up everything and finally said goodbye. Some would say there is order in this chaos disguised as order disguised as chaos Continually debating pattern recognition or butterfly effects But I’d like to think We were more subtle than that

Excuse me, sir, your pants are on fire. Yes, i am talking to you, sir. This is quite a mess you have made, you starry-eyed dreamer. Not that it was perfect in the beginning. Nothing is. When my grandfather got old, he made sure to dress well. If he was to die on any given day, he intended to do it in his Sunday best. My grandfather died in a unisex hospital gown. When i was growing up, Mom always made sure i wore clean underwear. It would be shameful to die in ***** ones. Speaking of growing up, i was raised on Reaganomics. It doesn't matter which side of the aisle you stand on these days, because Reagan defeated communism through the clever use of money. When my grandmother was set to pass, she faced the changing seasons with poise and dignity.  She was ready to move on, to reunite with loved ones lost. My grandmother died in a unisex hospital gown. My best friend, Peter, didn't put much stock in appearances. He was funny and sarcastic. We all loved him like a brother.  Peter's mom buried him in brand new Ecko gear.  He died in boxer shorts on the floor of a ramshackle apartment blue in the face from a ****** overdose. Thank god none of these people will ever need healthcare. Mr. President, sir, i am no Republican. i am an American. You do remember us, don't you? How silly of me...of course you don't. You were busy watching your legacy. i would have watched it better, if it had been my name at risk. My name is all i have. When Bill Clinton was president, he lied about getting a ******* But we forgave him. It was just a ******* It's not like it was our privacy or healthcare at stake. Or our economy. Have you dreamed about any of those things, sir? Or just your legacy? Who knows? How well do we ever know anyone? Christmas is right around the corner, and i and others have made you a fine gift, a lovely suit. It's invisible. You probably won't notice. No matter... one day you will have to remove your flaming pants. To try on your new suit. Or, god forbid, to put on a unisex hospital gown. And then you will finally see your legacy.

♦   ♦   ♦ She was an earnest devotée. Her ideals, birthed in Chardonnay were globally diverse (read: white). A liberal bark preceded bite. Her crystal clearer than her vision; she provoked bemused derision as she breathed intolerance toward all who would not dance her dance. She swooned for distant pagan tribes, attuned to their exotic vibes – rapt in multi-culti piety strangely deaf to her own society, judged by her as abomination; unredeemed. The background station always stuck on N.P.R. (the soundtrack of her culture war, Pacifica News and Democracy Nows, and other progressive holy cows) Her motherland a shameful mystery: guilty first, and void of history – its origins defiled, corrupted… while she enjoyed uninterrupted freedom to pursue her whims: misguided one-world global hymns. The sisterhood of hu(man) kind was foremost in her earnest mind – even should that same sisterhood be sealed by her well-meaning blood. Out on a date with global death she hoped to unify the earth in solidarity with causes led by killers, warlord bosses, thugs she never knew existed who, if she’d met she’d have resisted. Her theory landed far from her praxis spun, by default, on an evil axis. Hot with zeal she fumed and stormed quite certain she was well-informed, at benefits, non-profit functions rallies, boycotts, left-wing luncheons; warm with righteous spite for Israel, aiding and abetting Ishmael with fellow-travelers, like-minded similarly hateful, blinded, rattling sabers, scimitars, axes… (lunacy never wanes, but waxes hotter with the passing years as activists confront their fears). She finally shilled for the Intifada (stopping short of reciting Shahada), reaching out to the terrorist with righteous raised progressive fist… offering thus her neck to blade: collateral to be repaid by murderers who couldn’t care less about her open-mindedness.

Briskly walking with his head ***** Money and treasure, he aims to get He is in a stampede, chasing wealth Acute shortage of ‘humility and gratitude’ Compels him to slaughter a multitude The desire for more than enough It has crystallized and made his heart tough Oblivious about ‘humility and gratitude’ Man agrees to squash the destitute Unaware, that he may face the same fate Even then he piles up his plate When would he be humble and grateful? For the things which make his life blissful… Even while swallowing all that is unlawful He persistently denies being shameful His conscience reminds him of ‘humility and gratitude’ But he refuses to change his haughty attitude Let me remind you that life is temporary Nothing in this world remains stationary Just like dust your stay is transitory These two traits, ‘humility and gratitude’ Can help you to acquire beatitude Don’t forget your final abode Where good deeds won’t be sold Remember, the fables of the brave and the bold All of them possessed ‘humility and gratitude’ From all this, you may conclude It is the purity of our intentions What Creator expects from his creation Everything else is mere illusion Being a human, demands ‘humility and gratitude’

Humility and Gratitude
Life is a movie and men are really actors. Some get the lead role, while others are just extras. It's a hierarchy, you got the over zealous ****** on top and ******* below. If you can sell your soul, you'll make headlines. Get paid. Buy a steak or something. Care only about yourself and **** everybody else over, in whatever position you'd like ;) .Fight ***** or don't fight at all. Sucker punch the Devil for trickin' you and book it. Run, run fast, like the cops  are after you. Shit's about to go down. It's Irony, in his emmy winning role! Shameful that "The laws" are just dyslexic interpretations of petty rules anyways. Use logic, not obedience

The Adventures Of A Real-Life Psychopath.
Each fast forward is a misunderstanding Though it remains the same, just darkens with each handing Harder for me to capture what’s written in ink When the physical now takes over all that I must think Seeds are the beginning of an expected progression But a tree that stands tall is Old without Lesson Shameful to hide behind mountains of growth When you recognize the same scars in each and in both Ironic is paper that is stripped down from tree When words of my root are setting me free.

Where are the role models? Who do I admire? The *** and drug obsessed rapper? The naked model in the magazine? Who? Where is the father figure in that single mother home? Or the concerned and responsible mother of two? Where is the morals in society? Tell me Where can I find them? Everyone seems absorbed by popularity Acceptance Is this the reason we expose our bodies? Disregard our morals? Sully our name? Where are the role models? The positive influence? The man holding the door for the young lady? The mother struggling to put her children through college? I'm in despair Will I succumb to the warped society? Will I trade my personal respect, for a robe knitted of shameful glory? I'm afraid Where did all the good people go?

Where are the role models?
there are 10 things you may need to know about me if you'd like to get to know me better if you care about me 1. i love thunderstorms i love the way lightning looks against the sea at night i enjoy the presence of crazy rain and the arguments the clouds seem to have i am a pluviophile 2. i hate small talk i do not care for my feelings on this particular time of day which is why if you ask me how i am or "how i'm feeling" i will provide a bland answer this is such a boring step for you to get to know me better you probably don't even care how my summer went tell me your fantasies, childhood fears, tell me things you wouldn't tell your best friend ask me questions about my former lover i am curious to know 3. i am quiet a lot i ponder about life and odd little ideas pop into my head randomly like: i wonder if you can naturally change your eye colour or why is it quiet only at night? i think about people i haven't met or people in my past those whom i care about and those whom i hate 4. people with sad eyes are attractive i do not know why the roundness and dull sparkle in their eyes arouse me it creates me to gravitate around them i do not pity them but i am somehow attracted to them 5. the internet is amazing i have gained so many friends from here different photos and art has inspired me i lost fears through the internet it's fascinating really 6. i have a fine appreciation for art there are so many different forms of art and i love all of them whether it's poetry or dance or drama i have experimented and flirted with them all they are unique and brilliant in their own way 7. i do not love myself no matter how hard i bring myself to it there are so many flaws and dents in my skin that i cannot do it i am shameful of myself afraid of myself and most of all i am saddened by my own soul 8. i long for a soulmate one to appreciate good food with one to travel with whether i am in love with this person or one whom i am very fond of i long for someone to be there for me at all times 9. i cry easily i am sensitive and this is hard to admit i am overemotional at times and the tears fall easily most of the time it is because i can relate to the certain emotion that is being depicted 10. i am filled with stories i could go on and on about different rumors and secrets i have stored inside i am in abundance with stories and good laughs i have fascinating scary stories both fiction and non-fiction many stories are mine and there are a lot that aren't but both are entertaining and i enjoy telling stories

Law, All ye termites hacking ants are you without sin? Twisting the law to your greed thus dethroning justice Thou that dis-virgins the law to suit your selfish taste, Did not equity say that none is above the law? Money-thirsty vultures seeking positions to occupy. Law hackers depriving justice and equity of her rights Equity and justice now lives in shame of her virginity, Almighty termite, do not your deeds speak evil of your sins? I weep blood for justice and equity whose daughters you ***** Is there none whose conscience still breathe or lives? Power-driven termites making uncountable promises Yet accomplishing none but your calculated interests. Equity, All ye leaders that preach peace, are you not corrupt minded? En-slaving accounts meant for public welfare Yet you claim to have the peoples interest in mind, Did not the law command you to let equity and justice smile? Parasitic predators hi-jacking the country's economy Filthy termites proclaiming injustice upon powerless ants, Justice hackers, do not your conscience judge your judgments? I wish that you allow justice and equity have her way. Law benders at whose feet equity and justice bow Rippers of the law, at your hands justice is twisted, Is your nature as humans so inhumane? Little wonder the earth lives in fear of your tyranny. Justice, All ye slanders of the law, why not sheath your swords of corruption? Your unchecked power has broken the wings of justice Thereby making equity a widow without a husband, Remember your oaths to serve with justice and equity; Did you deceive the ants that voted you in to serve them? Chameleons occupying seats of filtered ambitions Woe betide your conscience for refusing to judge you, Are you not guilty of molesting the law? I mourn for the shameful death of equity and justice. You that crafts the law to fit your suit of corruption Remember a day comes when justice will laugh again, And you being powerful cannot escape the law of Karma. Karma, Murderers of the law, will you also bribe karma? I doubt if you can buy the law of karma with money. Thou whose gluttony corrupts justice and equity, Don't you feel guilty that you disvirgined the law? Equity and justice now roams about in nakedness, You that preach the law, are you true to yourself? Heartless spiders cob-webbing the law to entangle poor ants Did not equity bid you come to justice with clean hands? Yet with filthy garments you condemn innocent ants; Mind you that someday the law will rise again. All ye scavengers of justice and hackers of the law, Do you think you can **** the law of Karma?

I’m fine, thanks…                                                                                                                                                  Is that what you truly mean? Or do you mean I’m tired… I’m lonely… I’m hurt… Confused. Bewildered. Angered. Disillusioned… Skeptical… Or maybe I’m distressed… I’m woeful… I’m pathetic… Lost. Vulnerable. Infuriated… Empty. Lifeless. Crushed. Tortured. Dejected. Offended. Afflicted. Desolate. Desperate. Rejected. Heartbroken… Tormented… I’m scared… I’m disgruntled… Embarrassed… Weak. Dreadful. Hungry. Aggravated. Guilty… Shameful… Frustrated… Jealous… Horrified… Overwhelmed… Devastated… Defeated… Is fine ever what you truly mean? Or is it a cover?

How Are You?
So, what's the deal with ****** Why is it that there's this whole weird thing associated with being unclothed, as if we don't wake up and each of us strip down for a completely naked shower, and under our clothes, we're completely naked. Why is it we spend so much time pretending our bodies don't exist and fragilely hiding behind these pointless social constructions about what and whom you should and shouldn't be, why do we lie about who we are and cover it up because it's not safe for children? CHILDREN ARE THE SAME SPECIES AS US. THEY ARE THE SAME SHAPE. They get naked too. and if they're not quite the same shape yet, why do we hide what they're going to become? It's completely pointless to build walls and act as if they were set there by someone other than ourselves, we've given each other amnesia, it's always 'they', it's always 'society', that did it. Why do we create all these rules and desperately struggle to follow them as if we weren't the ones who wrote the rule book and we aren't the ones who can erase it? Why does he cover his emotions because he's scared to be called gay or too feminine? Why does she wear long sleeves or look down when you talk to her? It's not because of some conniving voice in all of our heads, an imaginary force, It's every time you made a sarcastic joke about people who defied the norm and every time you yourself were afraid to break it, you built the walls and now you're suffocating within them. I see you, there, hiding, just like me, and it's painful to repress it, isn't it? It hurts because there's something more we're longing to do, somewhere else we're longing to be. What is it that is so broken within ourselves that we can't be raw and we can't be free and we can't kiss random strangers when we want to? ****** isn't dangerous if you don't hurt and you don't make someone else feel vulnerable or like they're trash for displaying the image of God. Why are we hiding the image of God? Why do we cover our hearts like they're shameful to show? We are born into this world naked and our parents try to instill this ridiculous idea in our heads that we can't share our innermost thoughts, we mustn't display, "society won't like that" YOU. ARE. SOCIETY. I am a member of this universe, just like you, and I was born naked and I take showers naked and when we get up on stage, we're naked and late at night, we're naked, and when we cry, we're naked. WHY ARE THERE ANY SECRETS LEFT WHEN WE ARE ALL HUMAN? I have pain and joy, just like you, so show me. My goal is to unclothe the knights in shining armor because I don't care about the armor, I care about his heart. I will strip down these walls dividing you and me, because I want to know everything about all people. I want to unravel the secrets deep within God's mind. I want to open the doors that are locked, and I want to see you naked.

So he threw all his chips on red Thought only of what was in his head Which turned out to be shots of dread For his seeds planted in young women's garden bed Without nary water or breaking bread Or nary knowing the breaches of his and her homestead So he rushed down stranger's alley shed On a runaway, wrongheaded cocky sled Through her banks, he crashed her spread Like a raging, raging thoroughbred Nary was a thought of a rubber glove on his dragonhead For the buried absence of love was in his heart of lead There's his wife at home tucking their kids in their bunkbed While he flirted with the forbidden apple instead It was this night that lives in infamy for others to read this dread For the news broke of a married man impregnating a young coed Accosting such teen to what now proves to be his deathbed Yet if he unwinds his c(l)ock and placed his chips on black he wouldn't have bled Petering out the ills in his marriage he would have been freed Now he shrivels in a shameful battle of what went through his head Logan Robertson 10/05/2018

in my head i touch your jaw tenderly, let my hand discover you again and then you kiss me, just to try, gentle. is it so bad to think about, kissing you. maybe it's not the wild passion of romance that burns within us but, the soft devotion of a friendship so strong it turns into another kind of love. i welcome it, i'm not scared, no part of love should be shameful, especially when it's you.

Kissing the Shame
A rapid flowing thought, pampered easily into a worry. Anxiety builds within moments - from shameful musing. Bubbling champagne coursing through veins; hidden under ghostly white skin. A simple life based off a well placed lie, unravels like a fraying quilt. Could you forget as easily; as you could forgive? Erasing a memory. Cleaning the façade of our blood from the soaked table. Tablets and tomb, both alike, soaked in the redden water of my long forgotten innocence. I am sorry for the lies I've told through our story. I am sorry for my secrets kept,  locked firmly, behind close doors. But I am not sorry for loving you truly, body and soul. So cast me out, Send me away.   But know my leaving is nothing but me, showing my love for you. All for the love of you.

All for the love of you
Sadly, there are many intellectual postulations that are well meaning, but fatally flawed. One can only end up with an unholy mixture from… combining Man’s religious views with God’s Law. Beyond the constraints of the mental realm, the human template of thought cannot contain God. Yet after more than two thousand years of Church, lessons are still not learned; so it’s not odd… to see a skeptical world, groaning and grasping for rays of hope and light and salvation. God’s truth can stand on its own, not needing to be couched within feeble human traditions. The multitude of meaningless rhetoric will ultimately reveal the heart of a fool; this idea demonstrates that the Church really needs… Christ in its heart to reign and to rule. It’s shameful to see an inability to ‘walk in love’; unfortunately, it seems to appear everywhere today; stop ignoring the basic, Biblical truths, for… Christ declared Himself to be the Life, Truth and Way. Poem: Intellectual Postulations
Today is the anniversary of another trip around the sun for the woman I love more than any other. Happy Birthday to my mother, Elise who drew me a picture of the female reproductive system and labeled the parts and explained the process of ************ before my body ever had a chance to frighten me who taught me the word ****** and taught me that there was nothing silly, or shameful, or icky about the word or having one. who taught me that people are inherently the same and humans are valuable and the meaning of the word humanity and the value of justice and the meaning of the word "injustice" and consistently confronted it often uncomfortably but un-apologetically whenever we found ourselves in its presence Who responded to compliments about my appearance as a child with humble disinterested grace and taught me with intention in everything she said and did that what is valuable about me is my mind and my heart kindness spirit ethics righteousness some may say too much of the latter who taught me about Janis, and Sylvia, and Frida and Roe v Wade and punctuation and articulation and diction and the Serenity Prayer, and that Galway Kinnel poem about what is still possible... I love you Mom. I could go on forever. My love and my gratitude for you - and what you have gifted and instilled in me - is bigger than the universe and eternity and possibility. So glad you are with the sweetest child in the whole wide world this evening. Loving and sending you love and bright light so hard. Micah Haverly  2015
