opals
found underground
their colors well cloaked
until the miners dig them out
when they are exposed to the daylight
they reveal a number of hues
which so dazzle the eye
magnificent

Autumn
windmills churning
apple cider, hayrides/
leaves crunching under lithe hoofbeats
pumpkins peep from drab earth; sun in slate sky
breath to view with the naked eye
burnt pine flickers linger
in requiem
autumn.
flames
fiercely racing
through the bushland terrain
consuming all within their path
charred trees and houses bear testament
to their tirade of destruction
the landscape badly burnt
furious fire
flames
WARNER BAXTER May 2015
Spinning
swirling slashing
powerful   tornado
lightning bolts thunder and sirens
Spinning* wind sounds like a train head Spinning
homes  spun  to  the  land  of  Oz
a whole town blown away
dizzy head still
Spinning

Grinning
dazed and confused
does not look like Kansas
told to follow  the yellow road
Grinning at the yellow road still Grinning
horse  of  a  different  color
merry old land of Oz
in awe always
Grinning

Construed,
by perception,
into acts of pure lust,
powered by emotions of pain,
mingled with a lonely heart now aching,
exceeding bare desperation,
all starting with deceit,
as her mind is,
construed.

true love
between a pair
shall remain so steadfast
for a lifetime two hearts melding
the sweet lasting refrain of blissfulness
unto joy's devotion they'll twine
twill be a grand union
endearing is
true love

Ronin
falsely accused
of pledging allegiance
to God, king, country, creed or kin
any and all become stains on my sword
should push come to shove, by honor
neither bought nor ordered...
guilty as charged
ronin.
accord
twill ever sing
as they join together
in a nectar dripping pairing
they've sought the treasure that closeness doth bring
their union aligns with the stars
love's sweet bounty trilling
in their profound
accord

Echo
midnight secrets
dawn will forget to keep
a mended promise in shadow
on the valley side of ruined zeniths
lament rose petal alpenglow
fading into mourning
sub-rosa sighs
echo.

Flowers,
seen in full bloom,
are pleasures to enjoy.
It’s from toil and endless labours,
that we receive our desired reward!
Even when fully occupied
with labourious chores,
still we enjoy
flowers.

fury
of the lion:
golden warpath garland
thundering soul set forth by roar
sovereign savanna rex, pride in plain sight
majesty unkempt like his mane
heavy the head that wears
the primal crown...
fury

vision
of the eagle:
corneal coronas
scorch earth from soaring apexes
taloned streaks of lightning tear assunder
the prey of a thousand yard stare
she is a feathered seer
perched in a nest
vision

venom
of the viper:
his husk made of mica
syringed fangs apportion wisdom
slithering past Achilles' heel to heart
from perceptive directions hissed
strait tongues fork in the road
coursing in vein
venom
along
the river's edge
waterfowl did forage
among moss covered pebbles
few morsels were unearthed at this place
their search for pickings was futile
thence they flew to the dam
where clams would come
along

Comfort
Blankets my mind
For the warmth of a lover
So perfect our naked embrace
We fell in simultaneous release
As our breath begins to steady
As heart rates slow to creep
Almost asleep
Comfort
Rictameter - a nine line poem, with no rhyme scheme, but a syllable count of 2-4-6-8-10-8-6-4-2
his love
did decorate
her heart in tones bright
he bought spring's bubbly vividness
to her life with an effulgent palette
sublime happiness did remain
through to their autumn years
light brocaded
his love
the leaf
fell from a branch
as it did it twirled
to the pivot of a light breeze
when it settled on the park's verdant lawn
a jogger kicked it along
for a minute or two
then came to rest
the leaf
dancing
to that fab beat
doing all the moves
silver strobe light spinning around
the guys and chicks getting well in the groove
disco fever on the turn table
the floor an inferno
having a ball
dancing
