"relieved" poems
A horror movie scene as the heroine escapes. Everything is still besides her convalescing breath and the distant, chasing wind. Not a noise is heard except the fall leave's rattle and the birch wood's moaning bark in the moonlight. Her body slouches into the protection of a lone shed, and shrouds itself in the aroma of cut grass. A tense brow relieves and tired eyes close, thankful to receive the momentary peace. A possible misstep turns the wary peace on end with the jagged cut of broken leaves. The once relieved brow now concedes surprise as wild eyes are cast towards an opaque barricade. Sly pieces of garden equipment leash a weathered jacket in place as she attempts to stand. A cackle is heard, a shriek undone. To spite the brittle wood, the formulaic jump-scare-skeleton-hand bursts through the shed's solicitous walls, set to declare the last of a weary soul as his own. The wind catches up and spearheads any hole it can find. It begins whistling around the dim room like a tornado elated to havoc behind a castle's walls. The tree bark howls, the leaves, now delight. We learn there is no reprieve for a begging champion. The camera backs out of the splintered hole, and pans over a silhouetted forest to face the waning moon. The hero succumbs with muted screams to a gore far below and out of frame. Our only closure, a black screen, with bright white letters, slowly scrolling up. The end.

Everyone’s greatest fear is rejection. We knew its existence, but no one understand it clear.        The feel of rejection,        Is like cutting the deepest of our soul        by a razor that causes an affliction. Carved our hearts to the extent. Leaving with painful scar, and making it permanent.        Stark naked vulnerability, all aglow        We can find no escape        But to let the tear in our eyes flows But a human like us, Is  a material thing, easily torn and not easily mended.        When aggrieved, craving to be relieved.        For you, neither have I lived nor relived.        In rejection, I fear

In Rejection, I Fear
To realize, your malice intent, and power hungry destruction of my most hidden and vulnerable ***** I am relieved to be free of your vindictive and spiteful soul; everything about you is abrasive, brooding and angry, vicious and ugly That person,  so gentle and endearing is lost, I am not so sure he even exists, just one of your many disorderly personas And to think of my pain, self-mutilating thoughts and attempts to make sense of the shock trying to free myself from your lock of enamoring lies. I could feel the end when we had just sprouted, battling my intuition with a fawn dawn heart- with you, I finally felt full after some empty time. But upon reflection of your undeniable misogyny, I thank you! I could not be more thankful for you exiting my life, the confirmation of this delusion we called love, I am so thankful I was tricked, you see, without honesty, I could only give you so much, and only that much, is what you could take away from me- Leaving behind such vitality and adventurous expression, Charm, wits and sentiment for living the performer in me you never could accept, Merely shaking the strength only a woman could have. You could never break me, although you tried- and in that I find pity, that you feel so small You seek power in destroying a lover like breaking a heart is a triumph, You are no huntsman and I am not your doe I refuse to be your object for show

Misogynist ************
Down the back alley on the cold winter evenings your eyes stared only at me I didn't smoke as my father gave up yet i didn't dare disagree you parted your lips you drew in a breath and your body relaxed in turn exhaling slowly, you grin and you show me how much your body did yearn for the taste of a cigarette the embers and ashes matches and lighters, causing flickering flashes you said I didn't have to but I said I didn't mind that the smoke in your mouth would soon be in mine I did not draw back my mouth- under attack I just had to last the duration because I didn't smoke the taste scorched my throat and gave off a burning sensation It must have felt different as just in an insant You stub out the cigarette with a hiss silently relieved and now more at ease oh, the things that you do for a kiss

Second Hand Smoke
It’s 6:15pm. Peter, Anna, Sophy and I are studying in the common room of our suite. “We need to get serious,” Peter whispered, but there was no subject in the declaration, so I was left confused and uncommitted, “about getting serious,” he clarified. “I’m not sure I can get serious about a guy who doesn’t separate whites and darks in the laundry,” I say, gently. “No,” he said, shaking his head in brief vibration, “we need to get serious about DINNER.” “Oh!” I said, maybe a little too relieved. “Ha!” He chortled, “YOU overthink everything!” He said, nodding his head up and down to prove it was true. “And speaking of laundry,” he continued, seeing me start to open my mouth, “the other night YOU asked me if your pastel purple ******* should go with the whites or darks - so I must be an EXPERT!” I laughed at the idea of his laundry expertise, sailing in from out of the purple like that, it was haywire. “Well,” I said, becoming introspective, “I didn’t know you’d hold onto that question like a grudge,” I said, in quiet, wounded accusation, “from now ON, maybe you should stay as far away from my ******* as possible.” “What are you two grousing about NOW?” Anna asked, looking up from her computer. “You guys are like an old married couple.” “True THAT.” Sophie said, like a judge right before knocking her gavel to finalize a ruling. “We weren’t arguing!” I said, looking around confusedly. I looked at Peter, who was smiling broadly, “Were we?” “Nope,” he said, wrapping his arm around me in a bearhug, “we were flirting.”

My Heart and Mind had a discussion one day, About a man that they both knew quite well. The heated discussion continued for hours, Both with arguments meant to compel. A debate ensued between the two, With each taking a different perspective. The Heart believed the man to be true, And the Mind thought he was deceptive. Heart started the discussion with an obvious point, "He is sweet and gentle like no man before." Mind responded smugly, "That's great in the moment but how does he act after she's walked out the door?" Heart countered, already knowing the point being made. "Sure, he may not be able to write or call; He is busy with constant demands of his time. What he feels in his heart matters most of all." "I disagree," and Mind continued to say, "Actions mean far more than words alone. It is when words and actions are considered together that a man's true feelings are shown." "He has to compartmentalize to get through the day." Heart continued to defend his intentions, When they are together his feelings are real, but her insecurities span many dimensions." "It's funny you would mention compartmentalizing. Apparently your memory isn't as sharp as mine, He was once quoted as saying this was not his strength, proof that his statements don't always align." "You are cynical, suspicious and guarded." Heart was clearly tired of this dispute, "Those traits are clouding your judgement. He is genuine and telling the truth." "I think you are overlooking the obvious but I'll relax and stop doubting his intentions if he makes an effort to send a simple sign." Heart and Mind both wanting to prove their point and have the bragging rights of superiority. Mind sure that the man would disappoint her; Heart confident in his genuine sincerity. Both waited patiently for some type of gesture, Something to demonstrate that he really does care. Heart began to worry and whispered to herself, "Stay calm and trust that it's not just another affair." Patience prevailed and an email arrived, just as Heart had hoped and prayed. Mind, although disappointed by being proved wrong, was relieved and no longer afraid. Trust and calm filled her spirit when thinking of him, but it was both that won in the end. Maybe they were more than temporary lovers and could also be permanent friends.

Pressure
Muted, muffled, dull thud on concrete, Staggered, drunken, half conscious nobody, Starved, seeking, worried about payments, **** in hand, knocking on the wrong doors, Fire and brimstone stoked in the belly, Mad, strange, appetizing burlesque eyes, Obnoxious smacking and licking of parched lips, Rolling on half rationed legs, Quiet, sullen, mournful footsteps, Presently placed awkwardly one in front of the other, Memory serves correctly, destitute, reprise, Thunderclaps and crashing roars, Almost forgotten, with great relief, Soon, very soon, to be lost forever, Candlelight, sobbing vigils, no power, Nail, Nail, Nail, Praise in the box, graffiti walled, Like a bathroom stall, just as ****** Docile dissolving vessels, Brought to the commonplace dropoff, Settled down and greatly relieved.

Loneliness is a pain, Not the pain of a knife cutting through skin, sinews, muscles, and drawing blood. Not the pain of a tooth in your mouth throbbing and sending shocks of horrors through highways of swollen nerves.. Not a fatal pain of a dying cell being devoured by a cancerous growth that thrives on the death and the pain of the very cells that produces its been. Not the pain of the prisoner s body been tortured by men who see no wrong or feel no shame as they insert sharp hot instruments into natural and man made orifices in their captives helpless, hopeless bodies. Not the pain of age as the body's functions start their natural march towards unreliability , Hips, knees knuckles, elbows and all the other joints as they begin to slowly dry up and rub against each other like stones rolling down a hillside. Not the pain of hearts slowing, livers hardening, lungs wheezing like ripped accordians bellows . Not the pain of childbirth. Not the pain of accidents that show no fairness to the person in the wrong place at the wrong time. Not the pain of self inflicted wounds that can fool you into thinking that that pain is the answer to your problems. Not the pain of the young healthy times when the body, and mind could accept it and overcome it Not the pain of hunger or thirst. Loneliness is the pain of the soul . Loneliness is the pain of dreams that are dreamt when your asleep and when you'r awake. Loneliness is the pain of memories . Some half forgotten some that are so clear you could almost touch them. Some you'd rather forget. Some you would spend the rest of your life reliving over and over again. Loneliness is the pain that at times can be part relieved momentarily through the bottom of a whiskey bottle or a point of a syringe filled with a concoction of juices from plants poisonous to both the body and the soul. Loneliness can never be cured by earthly things. Loneliness is a pain that can only find peace through a kinderd spirit. Pat Rooney 2013

Amazing Grace: your gift for all. So amazing your grace that you would die for us sinners on a cross in shame and agony though sinless yourself. How Sweet the Sound: to hear "your sins are absolved" That Saved a Wretch Like Me: Compared to your perfection and glory we are truly wretched. All blackened by sin, but because of your death on a cross not by water or blood, but by water and blood we are saved and washed clean and white. The only chance we have of getting into heaven is by your gift of Amazing Grace. I Once Was Lost: like a sheep who strays from the flock and wanders off But Now Am Found: I am safe and sound in your arms once again. You rescue me from danger and bring me back safe and sound. Was Blind: because of sin and my faults, wrapped up in a blanket of hurting and lies. But Now I See: the magnitude of this gift you give and because of your death, the pure spotless lamb, and the cleansing blood you shed for me and for many that sins might be forgiven. 'Twas Grace That Taught My Heart To Fear: fear you in a deep respect for your power, fear of not having you always there and fear of satan and the cost of sin. And Grace My Fears Relieved: I used to fear what would happen if I sinned and I still fear as I should always, but I take comfort in the knowledge that when I sincerely repent, do my best to sin no more, and to avoid the things that lead me to sin I will be forgiven. How Precious Did That Grace Appear: It is by Grace and Grace alone that we are saved and indeed how precious, how special Grace was as it appeared to me The Hour I First Believed: The hour I came to believe in you Jesus my Savior who shed your blood, died and rose again that I might live!

Teetering on her baby legs A newborn with a Solo cup bombastic red with a few undulating ribs Held firmly in her hand Is this her first or her third? Somnambulant yet eager And just a little out of place In a foreign territory On newly contested lands She stumbles through a raucous crowd Or was it just white noise? She’s lost her companions Somewhere Although they could very well be close at hand In the distance she can make out Laughing faces Bodies moving to and fro Spilling forward, little messes Throwing back cheap libation She passes through a room and out the door Into the out-of-doors Someone following her unbeknownst Watching her cautious, curious steps And when she turns and sees the blur standing She greets it “Hail Fellow!” Bouncing from variable to variable Frequency to frequency Confident and in command Of a seemingly controlled chaos He approaches smiling and holds out his hand Anonymous Having drawn her attention from the stars That she could not find above Leaning against the garage’s eastern wall She takes it awkwardly Tentative she smiles back reassured Wobbling she returns standing alongside him Or was she in front? Purposeful and en route Emboldened by his presence And how the way was parted before her Just by his being there. By being so close. She felt vaguely special it showed in her half-smile Cloaked in bangs She held her head just a little bit higher The co-conspiratorial glances Met by boys eyes And shes Went unseen by the girl with the Solo cup One of tens upon tens upon tens A coven would have known It’s better not to However. She was shown a seat to rest And her cup refilled She takes a sip and smiles again She takes another and then a gulp That spills He takes the cup away And places it on the low table Suggests she go to the restroom upstairs and get herself Sorted Embarrassed she is relieved for direction Someone knows what’s going on And his caring Taking the time His kind eyes She’s usually alone She waddles up the stairs to find a toilet and a mirror God she thinks I look a mess She tries to fix it The hair The eyes The lips The dress The stomach The ******* The thighs She shrugs her shoulders at her reflection Exhales and steps out again To find him standing there waiting for more. She wants another cup. She’s missing her cup. I’ll get you the cup he says In just a second. Come.

I've been painted pink the instant the doctors Wiped me of red. I looked like the boys I knew - our differences a Color palette provided by Mommy and Daddy. I was their little girl, their princess who wished Her hair would stop growing, Lest she be locked in a stone tower. I didn't mind the dress so much then, Not when it was the only difference between me And them. Magic mirror before me, is wrong all I'll ever be? I shut my eyes, unable to stand my body bare. My knight, your skin simply is not right. I've read the mirror never lies. Mommy and Daddy are yelling About my butch haircut. Our little girl the **** they say. I did it myself. Mommy still buys me dresses, Daddy tells her to spend the money on Therapy instead. Daddy asks about boyfriends, Mommy tells him I don't have any because I Hide my ******* I tell them I'm all wrong. They agree. We're talking about two different things. I don't change for gym anymore. The girls are secretly relieved I won't be there To cast a wandering eye in their soft bodies. I'm relieved I won't be in the wrong locker room. Mommy and Daddy don't like me Telling them who I am. I've finally found my way out of the tower and The king and queen are upset because their Princess never made it home, just the knight. My little girl, Mommy cries. I follow the point of Daddy's finger to the door Until I'm on a bus bound for somewhere else. I shift from Pangea into separate pieces. Finally I have space to breathe. Needles, knives, pills bend my body to my will - It took Michelangelo three years to build David. Mommy and Daddy believe me to be A delivery man. They are expecting to sign off On a television set, yet when they see me Idle in the doorframe there is a hesitance, a hope. But most of all there is silence. Mommy cannot speak, her hand curls like a gasp Around her mouth. Daddy begins to cry, his eyes pale and blue. I am hugged. They don't say sorry, but I hear then whisper. My little boy, they say. My little boy.

Oh! Rama you are the most virtuous You are the eldest son of king Dasaratha’s You always stood by your word You are the greatest man in the world Your wife Sita is the most pious woman Your step mother kaika asked your father for a boon She asked you to go to the forest She refused your father’s request You obliged your father’s promise He grieved to lose your loving kiss Along with your chaste wife In forest you spent fourteen years’ strenuous life Brother Lakshmana shared your strife He cut demon shurphanaka’s nose with a knife The demon Ravana came in disguise Sita fell a prey to his vice He abducted her to his kingdom Sita was deprived of her freedom You wept for Sita like a man Trials and tribulations are very common You made friends with Lord Hanuman He was undoubtedly a super man He flew to Ravana”s kingdom And relieved Sita”s boredom He assured her Rama would **** the demon Because He was supra human In the fierce fight You were too great for his sight Ravana fell down in the battle field Sita was freed from his yield You were crowned king Many songs did the people sing We celebrate your birth day with religious zeal All our troubles you will seal By JVL NARASIMHA RAO

THE RAMAYANA RETOLD IN VERSE
For my 11th birthday I bought myself the prettiest gift. A paintbrush. It was a shiny silver. When I used it for the first time, I felt relieved. The burdens fell off my shoulders onto my wrists. I created the most beautiful crimson artworks. I packed my burdens into fine lines, drawing the red of their weight. I am an artist. I am covered in my creations, from my wrists to my thighs. Now, forever.

Paintbrush.
I have always had pride in my independence Always made my own decisions made my own friends done my own work As all others I learned this at a young age; this self-reliance of sorts It is freeing to have freedom and relieving to be relieved of responsibilities that are not mine But it is nice to think of myself as small and dependent on mommy and daddy because it was a simpler time.

Autonomy vs. Shame & Doubt
I’ve grown tired of this suit. I don't like wearing it anymore. It’s not what it once was. It’s a constant burden to me. It’s discolored, faded, and worn thin, especially around the knees.   It’s marred with tears and stains. It embarrasses me. It itches. It’s suffocating. It’s downright ugly. I no longer feel comfortable in it. I haven’t for decades. I’ve taken it to the best cleaners, the best tailors that money can buy, but it's still a tattered mess beyond repair. People say I look good in it, that it’s me, it's who I am,  don’t be so self conscious. But what do they know? They're not the ones who wear it all the time. I ******* do, ******* it. Maybe there’s some hidden truth in all of this that I’ve been bypassing all along? I don’t have the patience and tolerance to keep wearing it. The long-avoided decision to rid myself of my suit finally catches up with me. I’m not timid, not scared, not anxious - just relieved. Excited. Ready to undress. There’s a fresh, clean robe waiting for me, hanging from the mantle at the bottom of the stairs. I prepare myself for facing the uncertainty. So, here I go. I undress. It takes a matter of seconds before I rid myself of the suit. I stand naked, towering over the folded mess.   I think to myself, that wasn’t so bad after all… Just like anything in life, it’s the anticipation that cripples us.  Remember that. I lower my head and stare only for a few moments at my ***** mangy suit. Nothing at all, no remorse, no guilt – only liberation.  I receive the peace that has softly spoken to me in my dreams, through music, by feeding ducks and listening to the early morning birds.  They usually have the first thing to say, and it’s the most beautiful message one will ever hear.     I place my robe over my naked body and start walking up the worn, creaky stairs. Distant laughter and muffled conversations travel down to me as I climb higher towards the thick, ornate door. The voices are familiar.   I push open the door, welcomed by the faces that have been gone for far too long.

Why are you so tired you just had two extra days off of school The thing is though, The tiredness I feel can't be relieved. There are not enough minutes, hours, days, months, or years of sleeping that could cure the tiredness I feel. No amount of sleep will get rid of the weariness I feel. You see, although I do not sleep much because of the never ending nightmares. I am more worn from having to drag myself out of bed every morning. Paint on the smile. Pile the coverup on my wrists. My heart feels so heavy. My mind is overwhelmed. You see, no amount of sleep could cure the tiredness inside me.

I'm just tired
A cold October morning, Treated just like the rest, The boy awoke nauseous, With a pain in his chest. A longing for something, Far out of his reach, He settled for darkness, Brushed red in between. The pain became pale, followed next by his skin, Respiring so slowly, The lights going dim. Adrift into nothing, What feels like a dream, Is death coming slowly, A dying brain's final feed. "Is this what it feels like to be dead, I think I like this feeling" Awoken abruptly, Surrounded by fear, Who are all these people, and how'd he get here. Looking up from his back, A tear falls from her eye, "Relieved" does her no justice, For not having to say... Goodbye..

though deep he sleeps sometimes, combining this exhaustive restorative of old age, that alternates with a restlessness rest of old age ~ the brain's nightly self-cleansing, both necessities absolute so he be unsurprised, by a parallel process, occurring beside him, as woman rumbles, mumbles, all the while reenacting the things we dare not acknowledge in the waking  hours, much too painful, much to fearfully real unreal, but, best unrealized she bolts upright, looks around, attempting to cross back, looking, investigating, ascertaining time and place, localizing her orientation, while assessing external+imagined dreamt threats, till satisfied sufficient that whatever dreamt, realized or dreamisized, before, going prone once-more the watch man observes, the critical threat level, doesn't approach the red line, not requiring hands-on interventions, and relieved, that she has expunged and expelled the mind's many molecules of memories, true or false, real or revisionary, making clean white tissued neuron+cell for the morrow and thus he reminds himself, that he be watch man, observing, uninterfering, is too, is also, a definitive infinite only love poetry

The Watch Man /She Ascertains
There’s sunshine in every heart Sometimes cloudy and gloomy Days may seem longer than usual Sun is on leave for a brief period Heart surrounded by heavy clouds It may not hold on for much time Before the showers overwhelm Parched soul and heart is relieved Drenched heart may feel melancholic But rains shall wash away the pain There’s sunshine in every heart Warmth and hope will shine through After the rains the world is clearer Sunrays through the prism of life Rainbows shall adorn the horizon There’s sunshine in every heart

Sunshine in every Heart
I once almost cursed the final performance of a wonderful play I had the fortune of being a part of it The play was Romeo and Juliet on Verona Street Set in the 1930’s I didn’t do anything important Carried two bodies Got in a fight Smuggled some beer Called a mob boss Delivered a package and Investigated two dead bodies in mime but waiting on my final role during the final performance of this oh so wonderful production I reached out to a friend of mine (his name was Paul but he played the Prince) and told him “I’d love to direct MacBeth” He did a double-take Asked me what I said I said again “I’d love to direct MacBeth” “You mean the Scottish Tragedy?” I held my mouth in shock I knew better That name was cursed Paul told me all was not lost there was a way to reverse the curse just listen close he said Take your fingers in a peace sign Spit between them Swear (I said “son of a ***** Turn around one, two, three times Then leave the dressing room And come back I did all and Paul was relieved but Romeo chimed in “well you know we have to circumcise you right?” Paul added “Yeah, with a Claymore!” Don’t ever wish me luck, I might break my leg! I still want to direct MacBeth and to show I’m serious I even bought the script! All that’s left is to get a stage, and some money, and some actors and maybe some talent to go with my almost obnoxious amount of luck

#There I was yet again –in the middle of my thoughts. I closed my eyes and let my thoughts take me wherever they could. Every breath seemed like it lasted a lifetime. Every intake felt like a new life innovating my consciousness. I was high on the hope for something new. I had broken pieces of my heart in my left hand –weighing me down and down. But I kept on holding onto the rope of rejoice with my right hand. As bizarre as it sounds, I felt good. I felt relieved with my dark side and the brighter side. The car horns in amidst of this city echoed -one after the other. It was as if everything was finally in its right place. It was as if I was finally who I were supposed to be. Every thing I was feeling —all made sense. My freezing hands, the cool breeze against my face, the tears stuck in my eyes, the crowded streets, the sound of giggles coming from a distance –this city made me feel alive once again.#
