In Spanish, VIVIR means To Live, the proper conjugation of which to when you say something as improper as “I live” would simply be translated to “Yo Vivo”. I live, as a Colombian-American. I live, as “You don’t look Hispanic” I live, “Woah! You and your brother look nothing alike. You’re so… white.” I live, “My mom came home once and talked about a man who simply replied with a horribly pronounced “Me gusta” when my mom said she was Hispanic.” I live, “My dad condones abusive behavior because he thinks Latina aggression is **** I live, my mom asking me “Would you rather celebrate the Sweet Sixteen or have a quinceanera party?” I live, as the white boy sitting across the room in Spanish class asking “When will I need this in real life?” I live, as the “Yes I DO have a friend with a skin complexion similar to mine, and yes, he is Hispanic.” I live, most of my friends are beautiful people of color. I live, when will you open up the tab in Google and search some Hispanic History to fill your mind instead of “Latina **** I live, the messages on the Internet saying “You’re Hispanic? I bet you’re great in bed.” I live, there are NO gender neutral nouns in Spanish I live, yes I DO love coffee I live, no it did NOT stunt my growth I live, one kiss per cheek at family meet-ups I live, “Eskimo” nose rubs I live, "if you’re hispanic, why aren’t your ears pierced?" I live, being expected to remember Spanish just because it was my first language, but growing up with an American dad made me whiter than fresh bed-sheets sold in America, made in South America, Hecha en Peru. I live, my mom breaking into tears as she is so proud that I can sing in Spanish I live, my mom used to be so embarrassed, when I replied “un poco” to her friends asking “Tu Hablas Espanol?” I live, "if you’re Hispanic, is your mom an Alien?" I live, "But your dad looks so white!" I live, being subject to racism hidden in a joke, hidden in a remark about how pale I am, hidden behind a judgmental look, hidden behind a scoff, a laugh, a pity shrug, a fetishized assumption. I live the bulletproof clothing and horrible crimes I am warned about when I say I wanna go to Colombia I wanna go to my mom’s home. I live, as a Colombian-American. I live. Yo vivo.

CINTA dan Dunia
You'll notice him in the busy streets of Peru, dodging vendors and laughing like the sun. You'll notice her at a small diner past 2 a.m, lost in thought, melancholy notes on their smile. You'll notice him on a cobble corner wearing bold colours and singing about the lives he's lived and the fools he's loved. You'll notice her on mountain peaks, soaking in the wind with twigs in her hair. You'll notice him weaving flower crowns and writing in his journals, squinting into the hot sky with dew on his lips. You'll notice her kneeled on the side of the road, comforting a small animal with the voice of sweet honey. You'll notice them, dancing at sunset, colours streaking across their face. You'll notice them running through meadow fields in the early hours of the morning. You'll notice them laughing like the wind, smiling like velvet, with whispfill sparks in their eyes as they sit by the waves at dawn. They are the sun and the moon The sky and the sea Fire and the ice They're not likely to tell you who's who, In fact they're not likely to tell you who they are at all. But even without the spoken reveal Even without the clarity of meaning, When you see them. You'll notice

I've been at hundreds of funerals Standing beside Fathers Soon to be posted to Peru Or to missions for black African babies. They'd sprinkle caskets like Spring rains, Burn incense to smudge the dead With rising smoke signals. Sounding the advance. I witnessed pain in the front pews, The kneelers with thin cushioning. I prayed fervently for a whosh of wind To sweep behind me, Billow my soutane,   And lift the lid; Prayed for the candle flame to flare, For the body to rise As Rathgar did. He was a faker. Not like what I saw. Up close. On Friday mornings.

There Was An Old Man Of Peru
"There are animals in the road" the traffic reporter said "We're not told what they are find another route instead" And so I got to wondering though I wasn't going that way what the mystery beasties were that were on the road that day Were they a herd of wildebeeste who took a wrong turn on the veldt or perhaps a wayward mule train delivering some sacks of spelt Maybe a team of trainee reindeer diverted from the North Pole or a bunch of llamas from Peru that fell through a wormhole Or bears, or wolves, or lions could be zebras or kangaroos surely not beached aquatic mammals or elephants trumpeting the blues Exotic beasts seemed unlikely though it was more likely cattle or sheep though it could have been migrating badgers moving goalposts somewhere safe to keep Cynthia Pauline Jones, 27/10/13

299 Your Riches—taught me—Poverty. Myself—a Millionaire In little Wealths, as Girls could boast Till broad as Buenos Ayre— You drifted your Dominions— A Different Peru— And I esteemed All Poverty For Life’s Estate with you— Of Mines, I little know—myself— But just the names, of Gems— The Colors of the Commonest— And scarce of Diadems— So much, that did I meet the Queen— Her Glory I should know— But this, must be a different Wealth— To miss it—beggars so— I’m sure ’tis India—all Day— To those who look on You— Without a stint—without a blame, Might I—but be the Jew— I’m sure it is Golconda— Beyond my power to deem— To have a smile for Mine—each Day, How better, than a Gem! At least, it solaces to know That there exists—a Gold— Altho’ I prove it, just in time Its distance—to behold— Its far—far Treasure to surmise— And estimate the Pearl— That slipped my simple fingers through— While just a Girl at School.

Cloud that I float on, carry me to Peru send to me exotic birds, bearing gifts of aqua blue Lets take a detour through the mountains of Kandahar for it doesn't bother me if I come out with battle scars Oh please, oh please can we stop in Dharamsala I have some questions to ask His Holiness, the Dalai Lama Cloud, if its possible can we please time travel? I want to see how they built the pyramids from dirt, stone, and gravel Lets defy gravity, next stop Andromeda being 2 million light-years away we'll see scores of space phenomena Our next and final stop shall be a place called peace take me there, please cloud, but on the way lets visit Greece. -Bobbie Leigh

Imaginary Traveler
America, from a grain of maize you grew to crown with spacious lands the ocean foam. A grain of maize was your geography. From the grain a green lance rose, was covered with gold, to grace the heights of Peru with its yellow tassels. But, poet, let history rest in its shroud; praise with your lyre the grain in its granaries: sing to the simple maize in the kitchen. First, a fine beard fluttered in the field above the tender teeth of the young ear. Then the husks parted and fruitfulness burst its veils of pale papyrus that grains of laughter might fall upon the earth. To the stone, in your journey, you returned. Not to the terrible stone, the ****** triangle of Mexican death, but to the grinding stone, sacred stone of your kitchens. There, milk and matter, strength-giving, nutritious cornmeal pulp, you were worked and patted by the wondrous hands of dark-skinned women. Wherever you fall, maize, whether into the splendid *** of partridge, or among country beans, you light up the meal and lend it your virginal flavor. Oh, to bite into the steaming ear beside the sea of distant song and deepest waltz. To boil you as your aroma spreads through blue sierras. But is there no end to your treasure? In chalky, barren lands bordered by the sea, along the rocky Chilean coast, at times only your radiance reaches the empty table of the miner. Your light, your cornmeal, your hope pervades America's solitudes, and to hunger your lances are enemy legions. Within your husks, like gentle kernels, our sober provincial children's hearts were nurtured, until life began to shuck us from the ear.

Do I take you with me on this adventure I have been planning all my life? On my journey I have dreamt of in math classes, late nights in bed, and on lazy Sunday afternoons in the sun? My plans for my adventure have never been static and have constantly changed over my few young years... In my mind I have gone to Art school in Paris and backpacking through Morrocco and teaching in Costa Rica and done the Inca trail in Peru and spent time at a Kibbutz in Israel and volunteered in India and sailed all the Seven Seas... Now as I stand on the presipice of my Epic Journey, not afraid, but invigorated, I have a choice; I can go alone; strong, fearless, ready to embrace the wolrd with arms wide open, wings spread and nothing and no one to hold me back from my dreams... Or I can take you with me, share my adventure with you, and start a new journey that includes you? We could make a path, you and I, through the world, where ever we choose to go, make our own adventure, new dicoveries... and have a very long journey together, and instead of worrying about old plans, make new memories. Would you like to come with me on my adventure, my love? Will you start a journey with me?

My Adventure; Our Journey.
I have witnessed this upon the shores the ****** of morals, causes, mores and scores of promises made and broken by trip tied tongues with words yet spoken in the days of heraldry when men could be the killers in society and still be free. I saw it too when dreaming in a tree Peru I think it might have been but every scene was set for me in the quicksand by the sea and I side stepped them each and everyone now it all is gone and faded as the past will do into another image who could believe the tale that men in chain mail suits set sail to set upon the citizens and sit by while the slaughter fallen the fruits of hell with chain and ball on. Hard but even harder still imagining that men still will bang the drum so hungry for another moral ****** score. it's war and that is what we got so take a *** of ale put on the suit of chain link mail and go and meet your season of no reason where the only reason you will find is the unreasoning of the deaf and blind. War.

Brother of Ingots—Ah Peru—
(Sitting and drinking in the chair made out of the relics of Sir Francis Drake’s ship.) Cheer up, my mates, the wind does fairly blow; Clap on more sail, and never spare; Farewell, all lands, for now we are In the wide sea of drink, and merrily we go. Bless me, ’tis hot! another bowl of wine, And we shall cut the burning Line: Hey, boys! she scuds away, and by my head I know We round the world are sailing now. What dull men are those who tarry at home, When abroad they might wantonly roam, And gain such experience, and spy, too, Such countries and wonders, as I do! But pr’ythee, good pilot, take heed what you do, And fail not to touch at Peru! With gold there the vessel we’ll store, And never, and never be poor, No, never be poor any more.

247 What would I give to see his face? I’d give—I’d give my life—of course— But that is not enough! Stop just a minute—let me think! I’d give my biggest Bobolink! That makes two—Him—and Life! You know who “June” is— I’d give her— Roses a day from Zanzibar— And Lily tubes—like Wells— Bees—by the furlong— Straits of Blue Navies of Butterflies—sailed thro’— And dappled Cowslip Dells— Then I have “shares” in Primrose “Banks”— Daffodil Dowries—spicy “Stocks”— Dominions—broad as Dew— Bags of Doublons—adventurous Bees Brought me—from firmamental seas— And Purple—from Peru— Now—have I bought it— “Shylock”? Say! Sign me the Bond! “I vow to pay To Her—who pledges this— One hour—of her Sovereign’s face”! Ecstatic Contract! Niggard Grace! My Kingdom’s worth of Bliss!

What would I give to see his face?
I did a little research work And you know I'm glad to say I found out about my history On ancestry.ca I typed my name and there it was A family tree of sorts With leaves appearing eveywhere My family and their warts There were places on the listing That I had never been And the names of the all the people Well, most....I'd never seen My grandad married seven times My nanny married four My mum was not my mother And my dad...was out the door The leaves kept showing up there Beside each and every name I sat there for eight hours I was really glad I came England, Scotland, Middle East Nevada and Wales Too! It seemed that all my family Moved when the rent was due I had cousins in Zimbabwe I had cousins in Peru They were scattered all through Italy There were some in China too. I learned things that I never knew Tales of family and their kids I  learned of all their countries And of all the things they did Four hundred names in all I saw And each name had a leaf I didn't know we were that big It was truly beyond belief The pictures too were something else People, places now long gone There were photos too of Mexico And my dear old Uncle Juan Tomorrow, though I  will sit down And I'll do this all again But this time I will make **** sure That I don't forget the "n".

My Family History...(a spelling lesson)
I’d Love to go to France And sail upon the Sine I’d love to go to Germany And Sail upon the Rhine I’d love to see the castles Of England and of Spain To see the royal Princess Kate And her lovely husband William, Oh, to have Prince Charming as a mate And then the rain that stays mainly in the plane Having traveled there in luxury by lavish gilded train I’d love to see the mountains In Switzerland and Austria And see the vast rice fields In Countries like Korea And drink frothy bubbling ale From a tavern near a windmill in the Netherlands And climb a tiny mountainous hill In enchanting charming Whales I’d love to see the canals In a Gondola in Venice Or maybe go to China to watch some table tennis I’d love to see the pyramids Of Egypt and Peru And see the Ancient Monoliths On Easter Island too And feel the spirits of Celtic and Norse Gods rise inside of me At magical stunning Stonehenge While far off in the distance Scottish Bagpipers play for free But Alas, Alas sadness ensues These things I’ll never see Poverty always haunts me And I won’t win the lottery I’ll never see the breathtaking things That others take for granted Though they will always be here Part of this amazing planet I’ll have to take in what I can And not hope for what cannot be I’ll have to imagine all these things In my own special way and see all I can see Watching shows like, “Rick Steve’s Europe” Scheduled to air, everyday On PBS TV Sarah Hall Minks Copyright 4/28/12

JESUS emptied the devils of one man into forty hogs and the hogs took the edge of a high rock and dropped off and down into the sea: a mob. The sheep on the hills of Australia, blundering fourfooted in the sunset mist to the dark, they go one way, they hunt one sleep, they find one pocket of grass for all. Karnak? Pyramids? Sphinx paws tall as a coolie? Tombs kept for kings and sacred cows? A mob. Young roast pigs and naked dancing girls of Belshazzar, the room where a thousand sat guzzling when a hand wrote: Mene, mene, tekel, upharsin? A mob. The honeycomb of green that won the sun as the Hanging Gardens of Nineveh, flew to its shape at the hands of a mob that followed the fingers of Nebuchadnezzar: a mob of one hand and one plan. Stones of a circle of hills at Athens, staircases of a mountain in Peru, scattered clans of marble dragons in China: each a mob on the rim of a sunrise: hammers and wagons have them now. Locks and gates of Panama? The Union Pacific crossing deserts and tunneling mountains? The Woolworth on land and the Titanic at sea? Lighthouses blinking a coast line from Labrador to Key West? Pigiron bars piled on a barge whistling in a fog off Sheboygan? A mob: hammers and wagons have them to-morrow. The mob? A typhoon tearing loose an island from thousand-year moorings and bastions, shooting a volcanic ash with a fire tongue that licks up cities and peoples. Layers of worms eating rocks and forming loam and valley floors for potatoes, wheat, watermelons. The mob? A jag of lightning, a geyser, a gravel mass loosening... The mob ... kills or builds ... the mob is Attila or Ghengis Khan, the mob is Napoleon, Lincoln. I am born in the mob-I die in the mob-the same goes for you-I don't care who you are. I cross the sheets of fire in No Man's land for you, my brother-I slip a steel tooth into your throat, you my brother-I die for you and I **** you-It is a twisted and gnarled thing, a crimson wool: One more arch of stars, In the night of our mist, In the night of our tears.
