"mcleod" poems
I was strolling down the aisle
We were shopping there in style
With my daughter sitting smiling in the cart,
I was stretching out my hand
For the Martinelli's brand
When the apple of my eye gave me a start.
With the bottle in my grasp
I saw, coming toward us fast,
A high heeled damsel, scarfed and towing her caddie
And she smirked as I, condemned,
Stood up to comprehend
The reason, as my child said "Whisky Daddy?"
There was nothing I could say,
To make it seem another way,
To vanquish the conviction so compelling
It was the color you could tell
And the shape she knew so well,
The question that my daughter asked was telling.

A God bless you, to all my teachers.
I know it was hard,
But you definitely managed to reach her.
In Gupton's Math,
You managed to make me laugh
When the rest of them wouldn't dare cross your path.
In Lotvedt's Social Studies
It was hard staying awake
But I think I managed to make us buddies.
In Phibbs' Science
I learned a little about my body,
and you taught us a little self reliance.
In Vinger's Writing,
you had a great sense of humor
and managed to teach me the art of citing.
In McLeod's Reading,
The place I loved and learned the most
I learned to put my trust in the love of succeeding

opening up an eclectic ruddy random selection of books to the sound of classical concerto dimmed to 'whelming' (neither under nor overwhelming), is like entering point after point to perspective to new brain after old brain after subject to object to alluvit, the few, the many-- 'on July 21st, 1936, Lockheed test pilot Elmer C. McLeod, with Amelia as copilot, took the new Electra up for its first official flight..' 'This is the picture of the Djinn making the beginnings of the Magic that brought the Humph to the Camel..' 'A block away from the museum doors, the guards still follow us, until a new group of guards from the next building has us under surveillance..' 'More and more, I suspect that Buddhists and shamans are correct..' 'I liked Bloodworth and in the spring we were going to play outfield together on that Lowell team, he whose name for years had mystified me when I saw it in Lowell High and Lowell Twi League boxscores-' 'if the world at large found it impossible to believe the truth of the Holocaust, even when provided with incontrovertible proof, Berliners presented with piecemeal evidence, rumour and hearsay were bound to dismiss such talk as enemy propaganda, or perverted fantasy. As Ursula Von Kardoff recalled after the war: 'we were realistic and pessimistic. But Auschwitz?'- '"Twenty-five centavos."
"Twenty-five centavos," repeated the Syrian in a firm voice with almost no accent.'--

Baths outside —
It's a country thing...
After a hard day’s work
of rounding cattle, shovelling steamy ****
hoeing weeds, woe, fixing fences fast fit
and grounding the grass, you’ll mantle it;
the horses and red-hot stamp them with bit...
You may break for brunch,
coffee (necessity!) and a bite to eat,
But then it’s back on your feet.
For more jobs to greet...
When the singe-worthy sun starts setting,
slipping behind the slopes, staged in the set background,
as on 'McLeod's Daughters' and ‘Yellowstone’ found—
You throw off your clothes and get right in, ohhh sounds (insert)
to the outside bath,
And soak off the grime from your bones, worn out.
Sip an icy-cold beer or shot a wild whiskey, with relieving cheer!
"ahhhhhhhhhhhh!"

I hope to see him again someday
Like I saw him times before
Resting under a red sun's rays
When Michael knew nothing of war
I pray I will always remember
The love I lost too soon
Forever, as if he never left
And still basked in the glow of the moon
So before this season has faded
Before dark waters reach the shore
I'll search for the rays and beams
As brilliant as the ones he wore
And i'll rest in the sunset like we used to
But Michael won't be there anymore

This is why we kneel
This is why we march
This is why we protest
This is why we are mad as hell
This is why we are fed-up as well
This is why we riot
Riot is the language of voices unheard
When you respond
“All Lives Matter”
To our “Black Lives Matter”
You’re not listening
You didn’t hear
You don’t care
