A special gift lies on the wind for each man who dares the blunder Then rolls the dice to pay the price to both touch and feel this wonder As then one finds the reason why that has thus far been so hidden Endless the loads that walk life’s roads with the fear that was unbidden Therein lies the conundrum which we know our hearts to command Now it will be for us to see how well the ship of life be manned Our lives have no greater calling then to comfort a poor child’s tears Truth shows clearer through the mirror for he who shares these hopes and fears But oh the sounds of fatherhood how narre they touch to the heart Laughter and tears pour from the years for each of us who play his part Tate

Fatherhood
12 in the dark, I sit awake by the window, Across from Hyde Park, and the feel of the wind oh, Sparking a bark, Nana's remarking from below, Canine matriarch against the boy with no shadow, Time's flickering by and I begin to rust, Consumed, I'm high with lust just for pixie dust, But to fly you must be robust and adjust, And I can't, though I try, I just look with disgust, Sitting on the sill, I think of him mournfully, Hard as I try, I can't think of him scornfully, Despite the fact that he talks so informally, He says my name and I know I was born to be, Part of the family, I think of them nightly, Tootles, the twins, Curly, Nibs and Slightly, Second star to the right, it shines so brightly, Hope he might come back if I ask politely, He doesn't apologize, he's immature and he's cold, Lives in a land without rules so he can't be controlled, But as soon as I saw him I knew I'd struck green-gold, Peter Pan is a joke that just never gets old, Don't smile at crocodiles down in Neverland, And if you hear a ticking clock, hope the ships are manned, Because there's a high demand for the taste of pirate band, And if you're not hooked by now then Hook'll tell you first hand, I flew here like a bird in a night-dress, frilly, Scared, trying to fight stress, skin like Chantilly, Found Peter and I confess that the boy's my Achilles, Now I'm a lost girl treading on Tiger Lillies, Acorns and thimbles are my idea of 'bases', And sword fights with pirates are my ***** chasers, Watching the boys as they fly and admiring Peter Pan, But he's the boy who can't love here in Neverland, I wanted devotion, to marry men who were charming, So I repressed, left my emotion, I left Peter Pan snarling, My own species no longer, just a common starling, Caged by age at my window, I'm Wendy Darling.

Fatherhood
Early morning comes too soon. Fish are biting by the moon. Father and son make their way Out of the house to meet the day. The men of the house are outward bound Seeking their fortune on the water sound. Fishing poles and tackle boxes in hand Off they go, to the dock to be manned. Eyes gleaming bright, with the wind in his hair, My son grins wide, and says, "Dad, Look There!" Sure enough my son sees, fish to be caught, Their trip is promising, will not be for naught. His father smiles at the look from his son, Saying, "Yes, son, you've found them, quite well done." Bringing their boat to a stop they let glide, Unpack their equiment, and come along side. Taking their time and setting their hooks, Plenty of fish here, judging by the looks. There's sunfish and carp, some salmon and trout, Walleye and crappie, and catfish so stout. As the sun rises higher, they reel those fish in. There's plenty of fish, with tail and fin. The father and son are laughing together. Can't believe their luck, or such perfect weather. Returning home from a long day of fun, They unload their catch and in they run. Fish stories abound, They can't say enough, The fish they missed, get bigger and rough. I watch my two men, with quiet delight. Enjoying the warmth, they create in my sight Fishing is fun, fishing is great, My men bonding, makes my heart elate.

Bonding
Come, Madam, come, all rest my powers defy, Until I labour, I in labour lie. The foe oft-times having the foe in sight, Is tired with standing though they never fight. Off with that girdle, like heaven's zone glistering, But a far fairer world encompassing. Unpin that spangled breastplate which you wear, That th' eyes of busy fools may be stopped there. Unlace yourself, for that harmonious chime Tells me from you, that now 'tis your bed time. Off with that happy busk, which I envy, That still can be, and still can stand so nigh. Your gown going off, such beauteous state reveals, As when from flowery meads th' hill's shadow steals. Off with that wiry coronet and show The hairy diadem which on you doth grow; Now off with those shoes, and then safely tread In this love's hallowed temple, this soft bed. In such white robes heaven's angels used to be Received by men; thou angel bring'st with thee A heaven like Mahomet's paradise; and though Ill spirits walk in white, we easily know By this these angels from an evil sprite, Those set our hairs, but these our flesh upright. License my roving hands, and let them go Before, behind, between, above, below. O my America, my new found land, My kingdom, safeliest when with one man manned, My mine of precious stones, my empery, How blessed am I in this discovering thee! To enter in these bonds, is to be free; Then where my hand is set, my seal shall be. Full nakedness, all joys are due to thee As souls unbodied, bodies unclothed must be, To taste whole joys. Gems which you women use Are like Atlanta's ***** cast in men's views, That when a fool's eye lighteth on a gem, His earthly soul may covet theirs, not them. Like pictures, or like books' gay coverings made For laymen, are all women thus arrayed; Themselves are mystic books, which only we Whom their imputed grace will dignify Must see revealed. Then since I may know, As liberally, as to a midwife, show Thyself: cast all, yea, this white linen hence, Here is no penance, much less innocence. To teach thee, I am naked first, why then What needst thou have more covering than a man.

Your intrusion Is conducive To my city burning down So I defend from inside my castle Civilian hordes Wield swords And I've gotta flail In my chain mail My city walls have been manned So use your battering ram And intrude on me Muscle into my muscles And burrow into my bones By disarming my mob While catapults lob Incendiary boulders That protect me from Temporary shoulders That have exploited my nation before Mining the resources from it's core Avoid all the blasts So we can clash In the arena of my mind Where steel strikes time And my defenses Defend me from my life So intrude on me And shatter my protections And shatter my conceptions So intrude on me And break my perceptions But be careful Intrusions have reflections

The Circus gongs excite the Throngs in nighttime Never Land – They swarm to see the destiny of Freaks at their command, While Acrobats step pitapat above the shifting sands And Lady Fat sits down to chat and oozes charm unplanned. The Dwarfs in suits, so small and cute when marching with the Band, Ask crimson Clowns with frozen frowns, to hold a mutant hand, While Tamers’ whips with withered tips, throughout the winter land, Lure Cats entranced through hoops enhanced with flames of fires fanned. White Elephants in big-top tents boast black-tusk contraband To regiments of Sycophants who overflow the stands, But No One sees anomalies, and No One understands. At night’s demise, the dither dies, the lonesome Crowd disbands, Down dead-end streets the Horde retreats, their tattered rags in strands, And Janes and Joes reweave their woes, for thoughts of change are banned. To play a part in Three-Ring Art, I thought I’d try my hand – I mastered skills, I felt the thrills, I breathed and seethed firsthand – But destiny denied to me to taste a lifetime spanned With tightrope walks and trapeze chalks ... excepting second-hand... For alcohol provoked a fall, as if a reprimand, And now, a heap, I sometimes keep the ticket office manned...

But it's all crazy, all this neo-fascist **** lately. I guess populism's got a catchy rhythm, if your lazy, then it's so much harder to love me or debate me than hate me. Now, let's dispose of this safely: you're racist because either your daddy was too or you're manipulated by falsehoods masquerading as news but it's true, now even I'm getting confused, but ask, who the **** wins? because you AND the immigrant lose. This shit's got polemic, pulled by extremist views, taking the meanest cues, we contravene abuse, on the daily. It's all so ****** up lately. I guess it's so much harder to love me than hate me. Then, the wicked beat breaks & it all flies apart leaving my rhyming heart to aim and find it's mark - it's my one sight of light in the deepest dark 'n' if ya hold to me now, we just need a spark. The day will come, I'll be called crazy, man, feeling like I'm William Blake's Grain of Sand, Eternity in an hour, in the palm of my hand, I see the white ******* walls in the back of the van. We'll be nabbed from the streets, it's the master's plan, 'til all that's left is sheep, the rest bottled and canned, then, they'll sit inside their keep, every gun-post manned, their delight, so sweet, never to understand: Heaven in a wildflower or the Endless Night, a reason to die or a reason to fight. In their sweet delight they won't see the light, But in the Endless Night, you & me just might because each glimmer shines out in the darkest depth, as Blake writes revenge from the realms of Death, those protected on high, Nations that sell & buy, can all be blown out by a baby's breath.

I've manned the Christmas Kettle Every year for twenty seasons I don't tell people why I do it, But, you know I have my reasons It's makes me feel so special Doing something that's just right I man it from round 5 till 12 And almost every night It gets cold out there ringing My bell, for all to hear I do it for my charity One I hold so dear Each year I've been out hustling Getting more each year than last I don't know how long I'll keep it up The time's gone by so fast I don't do lights at home at all I do not have a tree But I'm out there with my kettle Ringing loud where folks can see This year it was amazing I brought in much more than before I changed where I was ringing I was not out by a store The folks at where I donate couldn't believe how much I got In fact they got rid of my kettle And gave me a large *** It's the most they've ever had brought in By any volunteer I know it will be hard to beat But, I'll try again next year I'll tell you how I did it I didn't use a gun or knives I just rang my bell outside a strip bar And told the men I'd tell their wives Seems to work a treat for  me I keep their secret and don't tell And they pay me off in fifties I just stand and ring my bell.

The Christmas Kettle
A storm is raging on the frothy sea Mountainous waves toss the vessel all around The ravaging gales impale with a deafening blow Raucous sheets of salty spray soak and pelter             to and fro A bucket bails the raged sloop She moans and groans as she’s flung about A sailor sails ― A sailor endlessly bails Engulfed alone in the perfect storm Two oars are manned on the stormy seas The halyard torn and ripped from mast To row and bail is an impossible feat It’s hard to tell when you've sprung a fateful leak The captain mans the forlorn skiff There'll be No white flag of surrender flown ;    " I will go down with my ship! "   A furious soul             laments life’s toil As violent waves crash the gunnels hold He screamed out loud,              ***" My time has come ! "                   " My ship is sinking!!! " " Her broken pieces ne'er to be found ..."*** The rampart boat, well fortified yet built to fail Plummets from hills of oceans pitifully tall Cracks are leaking where the lurid light gets in But so does the briny water, will drowning soon begin? Lost hope floats the helpless, fearless one man crew His soul now guides the ether voyage ― A vessel drifts lifeless on the empty calming sea Nothing but it can be seen for miles of skies The free board is deep the salty water high Two apathetic oars lay silent, is a lost soul inside?                      ©  Harlon Rivers

I told my self i'd never write a love song, nor a love poem, nor try to express it in any way, Because at the time i never knew how to explicitly express it, I still feel bitter expressing feelings that I could not have before, Time has passed and were further apart then we ever were, We don't say words we usually would say, We don't talk like we used to, We only talk every so often and when were alone we walk in silence We don't love like we used to, We don't look at each other like we used to, Seven years will have passed and we still won't be together, It's not easy moving on after you said you loved me, But were still young are we not? How could we have ever known what it's like? I'm telling you seven years of devotion, Seven years of pain, seven years of wanting to be with an ******* Seven years of loving someone who could only love his smokes & **** To give them up  for me, You didn't keep that promise you made, I can't believe I loved someone who hurt my best friends, Who critized everyone he met, Who poked and prodded at everyone's weak side, Who as if stripped me naked and laughed at my most feared insecurity, Who told me he finally manned up to tell me how he felt, And then changed his mind constantly, Which will it be? Time's running out, don't you see? We have dont'have time anymore, to give this a shot, So let's go at this with every fibre of our being we've got better to face your fears, Then to later regret in our older years. I'm tired of fighting these tears, One day will be early or to late, I'll be gone before you can think straight, Should've never done those drugs, You ask me why? Why i'd fall for someone like that? Because I believed that there is good in everyone, even if their past and future have never changed for the better,

Am I just a flaunting fancy specified set of alphabets? Now listen, sir! My brain has owned you a long while back like say, a hundred times. But ya, my mouth is zipped for the Terms and Conditions I signed to intern here. My heart is a masked Superhero that goes for the needy and the helpless, while yours just desires to sit in the next luxurious sedan out. My body serves for the nation; no, not in war but in the agony of being a good citizen when things (like you) are nomore right. I manned up instead of you. I can prove my worth to the world w/o you. Again, I shall repeat, sir! Am I just a flaunting fancy specified set of alphabets?

Respected Sir
It’s not okay,  that your friends came to ask me what my name is, and then they tell me that you love me. I don’t I will never understand how you just like someone without even knowing the basics of them. You stupid person, I am trying not to judge you, but are a immature little **** Who thinks getting facebook display picture with shades and ultra attitude quotes is cool, But I don’t like south park, I’m a Simpsons person, you have liked this page called I hate books, Well, honey I am nothing without books, you like to quote Eminem’s old song, "hello people of the earth, look at me, I am the boss", funny how that’s you only rapper you know you peon, And I don’t like dragon ball z, what are we in class 5 again? You have like 1000 friends on facebook, which screams desperate to me And I don’t want to be ****** and rude, but you could have told me yourself, that like me or any alternative, I didn’t want to hear that from all your friends giggling at me the weird way, you could have manned up a bit ; It’s sad to me you actually don’t understand the meaning of girlfriend, you think they are for a week only and to boast about it to your friends that you have got a senior girlfriend That the most funniest thing is that you are only a year younger than me but how it feels like to me that you are 3 years younger, and to add to that, You think you are such a stud, well you look like **** news flash.

Little coward.
The wan sun westers, faint and slow; The eastern distance glimmers gray; An eerie haze comes creeping low Across the little, lonely bay; And from the sky-line far away About the quiet heaven are spread Mysterious hints of dying day, Thin, delicate dreams of green and red. And weak, reluctant surges lap And rustle round and down the strand. No other sound . . . If it should hap, The ship that sails from fairy-land! The silken shrouds with spells are manned, The hull is magically scrolled, The squat mast lives, and in the sand The gold prow-griffin claws a hold. It steals to seaward silently; Strange fish-folk follow thro' the gloom; Great wings flap overhead; I see The Castle of the Drowsy Doom Vague thro' the changeless twilight loom, Enchanted, hushed. And ever there She slumbers in eternal bloom, Her cushions hid with golden hair.

The Wan Sun Westers, Faint And Slow
Oh shall we play space men today and build a rocket Ted we need two suits some gloves and boots and helmets for our head A packing crate stood tall and straight dad's funnel placed on top three books so thin each one a fin and Mommies broken mop A beanbag chair we two can share and buttons we can push some sandwiches and light switches and cans of Orange crush Some dials and springs and other things we found in daddies shed now that looks neat so take a seat and start the countdown Ted We watched the stars that once so far where now within our grip Count ten to one ignition on Blast off in rocket ship The silver moon would greet us soon as upward we both sped through clouds of white to black of night just me and mister Ted The rocket turned as thrusters burned as we altered our course for here you see the gravity Had very little force We journeyed forth toward the north by meteor and star as comets whizzed and pinged and fizzed and flew both near and far We passed the plough and saw a cow jump clean over the moon then stations manned prepared to land beside a giant dune Beneath our feet a silver sheet of fallen stars and sand and as we two took in the view Ted held me by the hand The solar breeze blew round our knees and tickled as it passed time now to go yes Ted I know this day has gone so fast seated inside we watched the tide So slowly ebb and flow then 10 to 1 zero and gone we raced the mornings glow home safe and sound we kissed the ground and ran in for our tea I turned to Ted and softly said the moon just winked at me What shall we be next time said he cowboys or maybe kings I do not know I whispered low let's see what morning brings

Skeleton trees, stripped down to the bone, live naked within the walls of winter Icicle boughs, and branches buried deep in white Conical conifers draped with ****** snow, a blanket of diamond dust They now enter my frozen world, like life would now exist inside of a snow globe The drifting slopes add white dimension to this winter world Frost upon the windows, designed like crystal upon the glass, sends shivers down my spine The mass exodus of flocks of birds, migrating south for their seasonal vacation, have gone away These are the images embedded in the hynotic halls of my mind The aging calender upon the sunless wall will soon give way to another year The polar atmosphere will have to surrender its icy grip but it is in no hurry once January rolls around In wintertime we become like   weary, winter warriors as we are manned with shovels and plows, battling the barrage of shellfire of continuous cold, snow and ice Shielded with scarves and heavy apparel, shoveling and scraping, salting and sweeping, we are at war with the fierce elements that make us slip and slide The salt trucks look like army tanks on the move Playful adventurers laugh at the scorn The mammoth artic tundra is their playground, the ultimate winter utopia They shall master the slippery landscape on skis, sleds and skates in their pleasure to conquer the frozen land Winter is truly a wonder, but soon my Spring and Summer dreams lie captive I find myself a foreigner of this wintry wilderness My fair, flowery fields are gone Barren are those beautiful images, for Spring, Summer and Fall, fables to my wintry world, have slumbered all too long Soon I am pondering..... If only I can thaw these stone solid feelings, as the land soon melts into Spring tears, and can light a lamp within, defrosting the sub-zero feelings inside of me, I will fully embrace the dreams of warmer times, and I shall find myself once more A woman who knows why she endures such a season, shoveling my way through the stormy periods of life to thrive amid the firsts of Spring

Good Lord I loved those old days. They way that life it glowed. West Virgina misty mountains- a girl I used to know. All the people I done roamed with. oh the songs that we all sung. In that subtle little accent- the sunrise always young. Thank you for your time Sir. Pleasure to meetcha Ma'am. Here's a kettle full of memories- and a vessel to be manned. As we ride across the channels. All our demons strong in tow. Its every tiny morsel- that gives us strength to row. Downward way past furthur. Always fresh right on the mind. Is the way the forest parted- when we left it all behind. Ah but never to be forsaken. Somewhere on a shelf. Is a little piece of all of you- and a shadow of myself. Holding a candle tightly. Keeping up the pace. An empty highway driving- simply searching for some grace. To keep up with ocean. Then ride up with the wind. Just to get up in the morning find another place to swim.

The Tabernacle
On the fourth night of this sweet summer month When I first looked into your pleasing eyes I read a message, something deep and vulnerable I gauged myself and my feelings even  more Saying to my heart, “it will just perish” But days passed, I started to become foolish I fell into likeness with you and definite I was Contemplating and reflecting on a decision, I must! Our fates may have been planned Things came about though complicated but manned We’ve placed ourselves in a difficult situation Yet we were happy for having our feelings expressed. I weighed things out, carefully and sure Commitment and love for him were now more obscure Even before you came, uncertainty was a question to be answered Many means were sought and prayed. You came into my life and made me realized Something that is greater, free and more that I can take That I’m still capable of loving somebody else And be loved in returned and not make myself bleak. A moment between us happened May 15 was the date and everything was said, breakeven. With a crying heart, I told you of what my heart was feeling You too confessed yours and time passed even more exciting. It’s been a week now since we’ve cleared everything between us We’d promised each other to cut strings from our past. The times spent with you, deep happiness felt I wish this would last even after the world would melt. No words could express how grateful am I to the Lord Not even the renowned lines in prose or poetry could describe this contentment When you came into my life, love became more defined Obstacles may hinder our path, as a larger scheme of things is meant. I’m just wishing for one single dream A dream that would be achieved if strength and trust are assured That these trials may be withstood And someday, our love would be not anymore curbed.
