Dear New Poet: Then I'm your man, your very own Northern star, one leg up of a 3 legged stool, upon which all, we, enthroned poets, the world-over, do rule the honor you bequeath me to be, a first follower, your very own first responder, it, cannot be disdained nor diminished this instance, this birth, a novice revival, heart transplant, makes it the sweetest blessing to be the first— let us be the quencher of a desert thirst so long in the parching, the throat burning, by a desert sojourning, of a now ending forty times four hundred years so come to me! message me a message, find me a find, your poem fine, so now we vow, our embrace will ne’er be broken give me this honorific! let us together be terrific, raise our glasses, with arms entwined toasting you and all that mind and breasted chest of yours, full bursting from its future~contains, of which, its full release, brings a fuller life for us both I am a father. I am a grandfather. I am a First Follower. and a First Responder, for all who needs a leg up, so step upon my heart, it be but a first step upon a ladder with no top, no end ensighted my legs are as old as time, but, measure me not by the rings and the metered scales of gray hair aging, shock of white, a cain mark, wizard-wizened but by the muscles of my deep affection, the solemnity of this, my irrevocable promise this, the blessing we both make and earn, when you write, and while we wait, in quiet attendance - for all of your good works, your kept promises Blessed are You Lord our God, Ruler of the Universe who has given us life, sustained us until now, ***allowing, allying, and alloying*** the treader of treacherous waters, reader, writer, swimmer, to reach, meet, embrace and greet this day, this new born poem, with hallelujahs whispering and shoutings together, as one in one, of one, one

I. I’ve swallowed too many I love you’s to be afraid of coughing up blood. They cut you on secret. Who knew it was drinking gasoline and sawdust and every little inflammable thing and then sitting down cross-legged in the heart of a howitzer; soft. II. You are a soft explosion. You are streaks of a rebel orange in a sky that is supposed to be blue. You are steel rods in the curve of my spine, holding me straight. III. I love you’s are like death notes written in ash: you’ll have to smoke your way to it. Smoke cigarettes, journals, curtains, and yourself to get that much ash in your lungs; trying to blow smoke rings into your finger; my ceiling knows more about my sadness than you do. IV. Saying an I love you once will have you chanting “don’t leave me” on a rosary; love will take your bones and leave you lusting for somebody whose back is the last thing you’ll see, and whose skin you’ll think you left your keys in: and now you’ve locked yourself out of your own house, in a storm whose sirens wail in your ears and remind you, you’re hopeless and homeless. V. I love you’s leave no exit wounds, no shell casings, and when the time comes you’ll be telling them all how his bullet ricochets in your ribs, but emotion never made up for evidence in the court of settlements for a broken heart. VI. Telling someone you love them is like cutting your jugular and not expecting to bleed out. VII. I love you like the pages of a mad girl’s journal. VIII. The moon turns from an ally to the haunting image of science and realisation: you share the same sky, but no longer the same bed. And astronomy keeps ******** you over when you look up at the sky and no longer understand constellations. IX. Love makes it more getting-back-at-you than getting-back-together-with-you. X. Every time you taste blood, you’ll know you kissed somebody with teeth like needles and they cut you everywhere; they bit you, they bit you, they bit you and you kept letting them.

To give life you must take life, and as our grief falls flat and hollow upon the billion-blooded sea I pass upon serious inward-breaking shoals rimmed with white-legged, white-bellied rotting creatures lengthily dead and rioting against surrounding scenes. Dear child, I only did to you what the sparrow did to you; I am old when it is fashionable to be young; I cry when it is fashionable to laugh. I hated you when it would have taken less courage to love.

As The Sparrow
it's cold and dark and calm outside so you make sure that i'm tucked up tight but i need fresh air so the window is open ajar whilst there in the corner lays a battered guitar i'm high as hell so you carried me home and wrapped me up into a bed of your own you throw a lumpy mattress by the guitar on your floor and apologise in advance for the fact that you snore because i can't even remember my name may give the green light to most, to see me as 'fair game' my hair is a mess and my clothes are askew but that doesn't seem to matter to you i'm taken aback as you toss me a shirt you try to stifle your laugh but i catch you smirk as i try to escape from the clutch of my dress i hear a laugh which you fail to suppress i wrestle your shirt with my limbs in a tangle you yank it over my head, for which i am thankful i wriggle free from the blanket and sit up cross legged as you fling yourself down at the foot of your bed you tell me you've just got a text from my mother who says she trusts me with you and no other and that you are under very strict instructions to keep me away from all teenage destruction it's 1.30am and my thoughts are cotton wool but our bottle of ***** is still three quarters full my eyes spy the battered guitar in the room and i beg you to play me my favourite tune an undeniably slow start as you mess up the chords and ramble on about how i'm probably bored but my eyes fix on yours with an encouraging grin and as you continue to play, goosebumps rise on my skin and as you place the battered guitar back down you sarcastically ask whether i'm happy now the buzz of my body and the smile on my face shows that here, happiness is truly the case

Liquid courage to numb the pain. Intoxicated to forget. Offbeat blood, sent from heart to vein. Returns with a guest, she just met. She closes up, leaves the bar clean. To her apartment, around three. In bed she lays, counting some sheep, That mock her, thinking she will sleep. She hears the crickets’ lonely beat. Reminding her of creeps she meets. Sometimes they have a potential start. But never truly go that far. Each night dealt with some other cards. But slowly starts to build up guard. She puts less time in her makeup. But drunks continue to pick up. She joins in shots, hopes to pass out. But in her head she hears the shouts. Her heart’s hunger for real love. Her clouded thoughts rise above. A newly turned insomniac. No longer sleeping on her back. Till curtains peek with starry eyes. So bright, leaves a forceful rise. Her sobs like strings of violin. A void no liquor can fill in. Despite how much she tries to drown. The aches resonate with shrill sounds. Another night, still found no one. A man enters, two drinks and done. She questions him, “What is the rush?” Always pulled into a quick crush. But never really tends to last. As he mumbles about his past. A bartender, like therapist. As alcohol reveals the gist. Now drunk and loud, he starts to shout. Before his crash, he raises doubt. He talks about, the best he lost. Always at home, waits for the toss. She cheers him up, when in a rut. He gets up again, “That **** mutt! To see her hurt, curled up in bed. I held her paw, up till her death.” The next night, slept pretty early. He was perfect, brown hair curly. Her eyes were lost, but not with lust. Enjoyed his smells, delicious must. A piece of her, became a part. Happy to save his sinking heart. Rescued him, he slept on her rug. Named Milo, her three-legged dog.

Over a cup of morning java Scanning my daily mail I came upon an advertisement sheet *That exclaimed in BOLD rainbow pastel* Grand opening of a store that has everything On the corner of Daisy and William Tell The one thing I saw that interested me Is they were having a back to "60's"  Hippie sale Of course I stopped what it was I was doing Hopped in my Lexus and left right away The excitement had my heart all in a flutter This I guarantee is going to be a good day They weren't kidding when they said they sold it all I'd been wandering the store for quite a while That's when I came to what it was I had come here for Before me in trippy little colors, the hippie aisle So I bought me a couple colorful hippies With my 25% coupon I was able to save The Hippies even  came with a bonus Fresh cut flowers and Jefferson Airplane tapes When I got home I showed them to their room Black light posters and colored beads hung from the door As luck would have it I bought an Indian hemp rug From Pier One just the day before They taught me transcendental meditation While I taught them both how to bathe Their lessons broadened the mind My lessons the nostrils saved I soon had a groovy little hippie pad In which organic vegetables and enlightenment grew We'd sit around crossed legged in a  purple haze at night Playing psychedelic tunes on our Kazoo's And I was pretty good too! Who Knew! Yes, a house of happy hippies Is a happy hippie house indeed Especially when Wendy Crystal Sky...Yes, that's her name Brews her famous dandelion tea I highly recommend the purchase of hippies I couldn't be any happier with mine Sure beats the punk rockers I got on close out last year But that my friend is another tale for another time...

A proud man, Upright and unshakable In belief and morals, Once only I did I see him Without a tie. A child of Edwardian England, The links Of his watch chain Glinted As they hung With formality and elegance From his waistcoat pocket, Yes, even as he worked. And work he did. Patiently, Brilliantly and tirelessly With ingenuity and imagination. A craftsman from a bygone age. A master of his tools. Grandfathers are soft, Playful, bear-like in their Gruff-whiskered familiarity. Not Poppy. Unwittingly aloof from his grandchildren, We avoided the need for directly addressing him, Unsure of where we stood. He’d probably have secretly Loved the informality Of our secret nickname. I hope he knew. The chapel piano did for him. Too much weight for his work-weary ticker. Grandma gave me his pocket watch to keep, And for a time I treasured it, Measuring its weight Like a smooth round pebble In my palm. A workman’s watch; Practical. A yellowing face Behind a scratched And hazy glass. But accurate, And precise. Reliable as the man. Detached in life, I liked to hope that Gazing down, Watching, He just might have Laughed In loving acknowledgement of his Grandson’s curiosity And foolishness Sitting cross-legged on the carpet, With heart-thumping nausea Adrift in a sea of springs.

What I fear isn’t hairy eight legged creatures crawling into my mouth at night What I fear isn’t the whole “Something’s gonna come out of the dark and eat me,” while I’m trying to get a glass of water in the middle of the night. Nor even when my father angrily yells at me Because in all honesty he starts regurgitating spit from his mouth making it so hard to take him seriously when he’s drooling. What I’m afraid of is… I’m afraid of tomorrow… You see, Once upon a time On a Saturday Night I was so excited to finally finish writing my second chapter of my fan fiction Talking to a few friends. And relaxing from my stressful day of a Saturday. Then suddenly a wild message about financial aid appears, Now, This isn’t where my fears start coming to life This isn’t even where my thoughts were being provoked. This was just a simple conversation about financial aid information. You see,| My friend knows little about financial aid and my friend asked about the information I know. I thought, “Well I have limited knowledge on this…I’ll give my friend my best answers and hope it turns out alright.” Well, Things didn’t turn out the way I had imagined it. You see, This private conversation evolved into a group chat And even the financial aid information conversation evolved into, “How are you going to pay for your college expenses?” You see, I don’t fear of creatures with eight legs, I don’t fear of monsters in the darkness I don’t even fear of my father’s angry tone! I fear what tomorrow’s going to be I fear that my future will only just be a dream. It’s so hard to be focusing on where I’m going to be at next year when this year looks like the saddest thing on Earth. It’s so hard to concentrate on tomorrow when today looks like a horrible nightmare. Today, I’m stressed I’m not stressed about my grades I know I work harder than the average student. I’m not stressed about the guy I might like Because right now, A boyfriend is not what I be needing. I’m stressed that I may not get a job I’m stressed that my dad may lose his I’m stressed that my mom can’t find another I’m stressed that I won’t be able to pay for my ACT Ticket I’m stressed that I won’t be able to afford my SAT Subject Ticket I’m stressed that I won’t be able to pay for my college apps And I’m stressed that I can’t get fee waver Because according to the government my parents make too much for me to have one When in reality My family barely survives on a paycheck. It’s getting harder and harder to survive on that paycheck Because presently speaking It’s getting harder and harder to pay to keep on living. And because I don’t have a job yet, My parents are still forced to pay for me to keep on living. I’m stressed that I’m not going to have a tomorrow I’m stressed that I’m not going to go to a college to pay college expenses for I’m stressed that this fear is going to keep controlling my life! But… I can’t let that happen… I can’t let this fear run my life. ‘Cause sooner or later its going to run it down tot eh ground and I won’t be able to recover from that I can’t let this fear consume me, Because I’ll never find a way out. I fear something… I don’t fear eight hairy legged creatures crawling into my mouth at night, I don’t fear monsters eating me alive while I’m trying to get something to drink. Nor do I fear my dad yelling at me. I fear of tomorrow. I can’t focus on where I’m going to be at next year when today is all foggy with no sign of light.

Im a calm, cool collected cucumber underneath this fandangled, wiry, wrinkled visage. Ive escaped the clutches of the tangled snare of my image. Where and when I belong and to whom is no matter. I pass by groups and clans and grimace inquisitively at thier chatter. To my ears its an alien clamour of clashing egos and look at me's. They'd all be happier in a lonesome cross legged position enjoying the breeze beneath the trees. With ease I float through my day passionately. Expanding and contracting with the waves of existence. I sway indefinitely. Yield to and renounce the question arisen from the back of the mind "what does it mean to be me"

Inventor Sam invented a life Full of bright and sunny days With clouds in the sky, peacefully passing on by, And beautiful birds singing in all sorts of nice ways. Inventor Sam, with a wave of his little right hand, Invented mountains that reached up towards the stars And with a wave and a flick, in an instant, quite quick, He made rivers and valleys stretched out afar. Inventor Sam, what a grand little man, Invented some animals too He called them Zebras, Giraffes, and Orangutans Even people like me and like you Inventor Sam then sat back to enjoy all that he made But he noticed that something was missing Not apples, nor reindeer, nor trees and their cool shade Not eagles, nor bananas, nor snakes and their hissing Inventor Sam looked closely at the animals that stuck out Those on two legs, with little hair and one tiny snout, They walked aimlessly around with no purpose at all Stiff legged and hollow like fragile china dolls Inventor Sam then sat up with a smile on his face For he knew what would be his very last application With a wave of both arms, and lightning for effect He made people Inventors with their very own imagination. -BPW  12/27/2013

I see the beauty in a palm‑sized tomato growing afloat on Inle Lake— the one-legged fisherman silhouetted, perilous against his wooden boat, against the slow-setting sun. Thin echoes of beauty linger: hundred-year ruins, temples, stupas standing with pride, The culture of longyi worn with quiet delight. I took the train that loops through buildings, markets, houses, plantations— a city, a country shadowed by a darkness yet to reckon with its genocide. The cries rise, unacknowledged. “Mingalaba,” says a Burmese lady, her face painted with thanaka, the ground bark a pale mask in the sun’s scorching glare. She sits near Dyamayanggi Temple, a basket of snacks at her side, offering them with a smile. Joy comes chasing the sunset in the land of a thousand pagodas. A mystical climb, a striking landscape. I breathe, feel, wish to stay longer, soaked in twilight. For a fleeting moment, with eyes closed, I drown in the colours of the golden sky.

Pained like windows, Widows hang on walls. Eight-legged nightmares, Trying not to fall. Knitting webs, Made of lies, Trying to be clever, Trying to hide. A tangled mess Of silken strings Homes filled with knickknacks And mismatched things Always rebuilding What was new yesterday Relentless pest, Find a new place to stay.

a goat encounters a lion. normally the lion sees the goat as food. instead The Lion offers shelter warmth theo goat offered protection awkward that a four-legged hooved animal could protect the queen of the jungle protection together they stood both natural leaders both immature in the ways at the time neither wanted to back down from the other but that's what made it work despite the goats dexterity and natural stubbornness in his ways the lion SAT and ate with the goat. years and years they feast upon the golden ducks they collected at the rivers which they traveled odd as combination is professionals know that that is not even a combination amongst the food chain but fore a while they dined peacefully. the lion roared bloodthirsty the goat while being the loner the leader willfully back down from the lion scenario has a goat beat a lion. The goat couldn't bear the lion parting ways the goat be that as it may just wanted his own way but the goat has to learn sometimes the best win is to back off not every wall is meant to be broken especially that of a lion and her pride so the lion beautiful as ever smirked as if we were the prey and the goat knowingly put his head inside her mouth I'll let you tell it

THAT civilisation may not sink, Its great battle lost, Quiet the dog, tether the pony To a distant post; Our master Caesar is in the tent Where the maps ate spread, His eyes fixed upon nothing, A hand under his head. 1 That the ******* towers be burnt And men recall that face, Move most gently if move you must In this lonely place. She thinks, part woman, three parts a child, That nobody looks; her feet Practise a tinker shuffle Picked up on a street. 1 That girls at puberty may find The first Adam in their thought, Shut the door of the Pope's chapel, Keep those children out. There on that scaffolding reclines Michael Angelo. With no more sound than the mice make His hand moves to and fro. Like a long-leggedfly upon the stream His mind moves upon silence.

tufts of grass sit in the yard   hairy green patches of tenacity in a field of neglect half a screen guards a **** stained door   where someone painted, 214 the pit sits behind it waiting to be fed or to be chained again to the stake where, like any beast bound by gravity and the grave, he will make ceaseless circles,   smaller  e a c h  day,   unwitting sentry to those two legged creatures inside, who with or without the pit, lie prostrate, in dreamless bug rich beds     when they fall from sleep they too make circles bound by their own stakes and chains that can’t be seen but their pull is felt and their eternal rattle heard no matter how far from home the prisoners of tulip roam

Spasming in life’s web, Clustering under eight legged dreads, Watching some rise from its smother, But only for short pathetic seconds. I watch many downfalls, Idle in wait for my own, Seizuring with a horrible burden, Fortune telling with no end fortune. All mere blinded mirrors laying in wait, Distorting the spidery figure differently, Mine reflects its harsh fangs and nature, Others reflects admiration towards the creator. The web a complex beauty, But I can’t claim cruelty home, The ripples of intertwined death, Some by father...foe...or friend. The inhumane humanity, Puppets and the almighty player, Cloud me from things called prayer, For that hope must be alive and well. I’m just waiting for my bones to decay, Peace in nothingness or so you claim flames, Free from the ******* And all that it stands for. I’m an unholy ghost.

******* mischief misconstrued by me? Love, Held together like glue by me I built this with my own hands Now watch me cackle with glee As I hold you over a fire Like a beloved pet bird! Fry now absurd lust, Burn now: we never held trust I never liked the feel of your hand Paper and sand, Throbbing adrenal glands Proclaiming my fall - I loved you, is all I ******* loved you like a saint I burnt for you at the stake If I could give you my organs I would I'd surrender all but my soul if I could Love love me darling Love love me so Bleed, bleed these seeds Of desire that grow Sustain me darling Tell me I'm your girl Need need you sweetheart In this forsaken world I offered my heart on a stick like a lollipop Just one more year and we could open up shop We'd have enough, You'd make me yours Then I'll do your washing and I'll sweep all your floors My heart beats darling I wish for you now Sow these seeds with your wicked plough I NEED you handsome, Do you love me now? Do you love me if I bend down and take being milked down like a cow? Cow, sow darling, I'd be them all Every barnyard animal, I'd do a four legged crawl Do you love me now? Do you love me now? If I lay down to the floor and pray without a priest, Will you give me a thought, Jot my name down at least? If I was holy as Mary Sweet as a bud Would you love me then Though I act like your **** Would you kiss me dear, would you hold me near This trash, abandoned receptacle, This can, ******* hopeless: perpetual. . . I'd do anything for you Watch me moan, pine and weep I'd be anything for you Go without food, love, sleep Go without a brain to sustain, and I'll sacrifice my time I'll shut up to all men I'd scrub holes for every dime I'd be like your mother Or hope to aspire Do you love me now? Do you love me now? Do you love me now? Do you love me now? Do you love me if I bend down and take to being milked like a cow?

She was the rain when I was spring but summer became I, alas it was just a fling Naked branches in a dendritic pattern fastening on to leaves as Fall fell. But drives away the soft snow the blizzards unwanted a stormy winter unexpected Skyward, the dark side of the moon drawn to the faint traces of light - continuously teased the edges of the forgotten surface obsession consumed I to start a spin I grow to become the hunter only to see the chamois conquering my struggle like an insect trapped in the strings of the eight legged she beast beating a rhythmic tune signalling a tell tale heart the end of me no bang only a cleaver silently shushing with an overdrawn whimper and repeat.
