Determination
To the tune of Five For Fighting's "100 Years to Live" From "Frogs For Fighting" Kermit Sings: I'm just a simple green Muppet, Good old friends with Scooter and Fuzzy, And I'm small and skinny, A quiet frog that's on the roam. Animal's clearing out the whole fridge, There's a Muppet chef inside the kitchen, Making gibberish sounds, Boiling a goose or baking rolls. Piggy I'm alright with you, No other Muppet pig will do, MRS. PIGGY-there's never a wish better than this, When you've got a hundred Muppet Tears TO GIVE... I'm searching stars at the moment, Still the frog-I'm just in love with a pig, Dream of a connection, A constellation for a sign, Count goes "AH AH AH" when counting, Cookie Monster's nomming on the cookies, Snuffleupagus sounds like he just might have a cold... But Piggy I'm alright with you, You've got much might-no one can kick **** quite like you... But piggy I'm OK with you, MRS. PIGGY-there's never a wish better than this, When you've got a hundred Muppet Tears TO GIVE... Through a small Muppet's eyes Can tell you no lies, Bunson's Lab-a surprise, Madness, havoc explode, Beaker's running to hide, We're moving on... I'm feeling light at the moment, Small as can be-the sky-all I view, And I'm just reeling, High up in the clouds-a message in blue,   ...Mrs. Piggy I'm alright with you, You're black belt in Karate and Kung Fu, Super Grover's on his way, Every Muppet has their dog day... Wooohooo-oohoohoo Wooohooo-oohoohoo Wooohooo-oohoohoo-oohoohoo Piggy I'm alright with you, There's no other Muppet pig like you, MRS. PIGGY, there's never a wish-better than this... Its my body, my money, its up to me what I do with it. But everyone else is wearing it. I cant help the way I feel. Blonde Red Orange Brown Purple DMs purple with pink laces school skirt altered in the textile lab 3" shorter hormones racing, zipping, vibrating, fizzing till the top pops stairs made for stomping and storming cackling laughter crackling down the telephone wire clothes left on the bedroom floor abandoned for a girl crisis. You cant read my mind read my lips read my body read my journal sandwiched between the midriff covering cottons gran bought for Christmas and the skimpy lace thong I'd be grounded for buying Mother's mattress sanitary towels tossed aside for shamefully purchased tampons instructions included and time has passed and masks have fallen and I find you there in the muck and the mire and dust you off until I see your face - all mothers lipstick and glittering pink eye shadow and the smile that stores secrets in a treasure chest. Your legs shake like Bambi's but you get to your feet and nestle yourself into me warmly, strongly until you fall right into me and you run and you run and you run and you run and you run right through my veins giggles throbbing through my pulse pajama parties and homemade perfume radiating in my eyes and there you are and there I am.

A 'Girly' Girl
school starts soon smoking joints on the weekday afternoon in a sidelined shady freight car, property of Norfolk Southern debating if this car will be northbound or southbound and ************ our fantasy where we want to be taken knowing full well maybe one of us - (and they all looking at me) will get out of this car and live to see foreign places without having to return in a body bag we argue lazy who should go get the beer, collect the quarters and sweaty dollar bills and **** if I am not reappointed leader of the beer fetching besides it’s my tan lab panting needing water so it’s my responsibility and the nasty liquor store owner don’t hate me that much as the others so he’ll sell me beer without too much **** talk (some for sure) asking where I’m laying low on a **** hot day like this one tell him i’m getting on a train getting out of this two bit town which makes him reminisce and ask which direction could be northbound could be southbound hell could be west but for sure won’t be going eastbound cause I seen the Atlantic and didn’t like it too **** big and too **** cold, too **** mean

The Southern Sounds (inside us born and bound)
03:00 When I think about never speaking to him again, I picture a girl walking in a crowd that’s all moving in the same direction, and then suddenly she drops everything she’s holding and turns around and starts running as fast as she can, smiling and pushing past everyone till finally she reaches an open space and her face looks like sunshine as her hair blows behind her in the wind and she’s free she’s free, oh God, she’s free. 03:15 But then I think about walking into a doctor’s office ten years from now and sitting on a cold metal table, staring at my legs dangling off the edge, waiting. And then I look up as the door opens slowly, not expecting to see his tattooed arms hidden in a lab coat, but there he is and, oh God, his eyes haven’t changed, and I can’t breathe, and he just stands there, looking at me like an unfinished sentence. Then I’d have to let him put a stethoscope to my chest and listen to my heart and I wonder what it’d sound like, if it would sound like messy half beats of missing him. If he’d be able to tell. If he’d care. 03:30 Or maybe the next time I see him, if I ever see him again, we’ll both be whole versions of ourselves, content and in good places, our lives all sorted out and how we always hoped they’d be. And maybe we’d be able to talk about the weather and our kids and the lives we created apart. And maybe I’d be able to look at him with only feelings of pleasant acquaintance and relative indifference, not seeing the boy I fell for when I should’ve been focused on catching myself. 03:45 And I know I should find comfort in thinking about how one day I may look at him and feel nothing, 04:00 but it’s four in the morning and I don’t want to let go.

A catalyst is a chemical that speeds up reactions. At least that’s what I learned in chemistry class. Catalysts sometimes are the major factors in a reactions and without them, The reaction could never happen. Catalyst can be lab chemicals, alcohol, drugs, coffee even, or a person. While lounging around one afternoon you were talking physics And I turned it on your head and spoke of chemistry, Knowing full well that I was speaking of our personal chemistries. You were right, the physics of a relationship gives us the laws, But CHEMISTRY can predict the outcome. If you do the math and follow the directions, you can determine the product without even doing the experiment. Unless the reaction you are creating has never been attempted before by the scientists preforming the experiment. They can flip through the books, Read the essays, Study the theorems, Even attempt the calculations, But if they don’t do the actual experiment, They will never find their outcome. Some things need a push, A catalyst, For them to form a bond, React, And combine into a stable combination. Hypotheses must be TESTED, ACCEPTED, and RATIFIED Before becoming a law. No matter how based in logic your hypothesis might be, You need the universe and its fundamental laws to back it up. There are still surprises left in the universe. Maybe you and I can be one of them.

Let's get some sunlight Let's start a bar fight We'll take our problems and forget we have to solve them Let's take two tabs Let's start a **** lab We'll cover up insecurity with promiscuity Let's sleep 'til Sunday It's only Monday I have to work at 2 but I think I have the bird flu Let's call the drug store Ask for a couple more Insignificant reality crashes into banality   Let's make a hash pipe Out of Brite Lites We'll quote Pulp Fiction with Ezekiel's conviction Let's start a fight club Where we can make love Punch me in the ear and then I'll disappear Let's start a new life But after midnight There's a whole universe waiting to be uncovered first Let's make a difference Let's make new friends Let's go where the wind blows but first I have to put on clothes

Teacher
I could have gone to the cemetery, or back to my high school lab, find him lecturing from a podium, bony finger raised, demagogue of the dead. I could break him down piece by piece, cram him in a duffle, a femur jutting the zipper. Ignore the groan- Skeletons are by nature never satisfied. Instead I found myself in the carnival lot, The dog was long dead, the sign kept guard. Rusty rides slouched like tumbleweeds. Cotton candy in memory- blue tack crunching my teeth. Lewd. Skeletons fixed on poles, spiked up through pelvis and spine. Use **** Grip shoulders. twist. lift. When one slid free, he collapsed into my arms all bone-light, lovely, mine at last. I just brought him home. Sat at the kitchen table. Named him Curly. Zoom howled: WAG’s gone weird! What’s his name? What’s his name? His name is Curly, I said, but I knew his name was You. We drink wine by the pool. He never sips. Sometimes I pour a second glass for the glint. Sometimes he tells me Danny Elfman wants to play his ribs like a xylophone. Sometimes he sighs, he hates Oingo Boingo. I laugh. Obliging. So do I. When the wind kicks up he smells of sugar and rust. Sometimes he rattles the glassware. Sometimes he won’t sit still. Skeletons are by nature never satisfied.

I think. ready to second guess, miss dates and time, "you're late" again... 95, 98, 3.5 GPA? pre-test, for final, make sure your research is done, site, source, quote, student rate and double space power nap, smoke again, is the day over yet?..

V.B. Wigglesworth wakes at noon, Washes, shaves and very soon Is at the lab; he reads his mail, Swings a tadpole by the tail, Undoes his coat, removes his hat, Dips a spider in a vat Of alkaline, phones the press, Tells them he is F.R.S., Subdivides six protocells, Kills a rat by ringing bells, Writes a treatise, edits two Symposia on "Will man do?," Gives a lecture, audits three, Has the ***** club in for tea, Pensions off an ageing spore, Cracks a test tube, takes some pure Science and applies it, finds, His hat, adjusts it, pulls the blinds, Instructs the jellyfish to spawn, And, by one o'clock, is gone.

You can literally manufacture it in a chemistry lab; There are formulae and measurements of hormones that add up To this supposedly tangible entity A nicely brewed test tube Of elaborately named chemicals The very thing that makes you tremble in your skin, That has caused wars and set ships assail Confined to a liquid in a glass container

I am the catalyst of this cataclysm the catastrophe that impaled the atmosphere of this vagabond heart that is shaped like a sphere and an uncertain future being build out of fear that gets bypassed product of my cynicism.   Secluded in my lab concocting a potion for this illness and when all else fails call me the alchemist nothing more than an angst-ridden antagonist my apologies to the pessimist, my excuses to the optimist I was born to be a ********* with a heart made of silver.   Buried in my bunker trapped in someone else's lore which in turn makes me the catalyst of my own downfall I was baptized a Catholic without ever being asked turn me into a Cyclist and I'll pedal real far turn me into a Scientist and my lab coat will leave my side turn me into a labyrinth and you won't be able to find traces of me, of who I was or who I never came to be.

"The Catalyst"
We have chemistry together. From the start of the school year we have sat next to each other and exchange casual conversation. We are lab partners. We make faces at each other when the teacher isn't looking. We talk about class outside of class. We share notes. We share a class together We have chemistry together. From the start of the school year we have revolved around each other and exchanged phone numbers. We are lab partners. We watch each other's every move so we don't mess up the experiment. We talk to each other outside of class. We share notes. We share chemistry.

Happy the lab'rer in his Sunday clothes! In light-drab coat, smart waistcoat, well-darn'd hose, Andhat upon his head, to church he goes; As oft, with conscious pride, he downward throws A glance upon the ample cabbage rose That, stuck in button-hole, regales his nose, He envies not the gayest London beaux. In church he takes his seat among the rows, Pays to the place the reverence he owes, Likes best the prayers whose meaning least he knows, Lists to the sermon in a softening doze, And rouses joyous at the welcome close.

Since time unknown I wanted a mutt No Lego, No Hershey , would make me stop A golden lab, only, could break the rut Which i could feed and sit atop. Mother worried for the allergies and the fleas, the constant bark, dirt and spit. I swore to keep him up in trees and silent like a lonely pit. We got a pup and named it Edison, he did not explicitly, discover electric light. All he had was poo and medicine No wonder his tummy was never right. Every time a **** he let away With each paw he dug to dig. At midnight as others lay He ate on like a pig. One night a robber, dull and round, hauled himself across the yard; And then onto some furry ground, where the cur lay, his fat splayed, somehow, somewhat, on guard. A brawl ensued, boy, there was blood! the thief bit him and he bit back. Now, i have two graves in the mud, of Edison and of Jack.

My neck noosed My legs loosed I witness the tragic It seems so emphatic I feel entropy Enter me Centering Around love and pain I wear gloves of shame Toxicity taints touch My reaction is to cautiously recoil For I feel a great punch When I expect them to be loyal A tear rolls down my cheek Navigating scars Like a man who is meek Navigating bars It starts and stops Then keeps going The tears drop From what I'm knowing That my time is evaporating Dealing with the exasperating I feel I can be caring I just need the chance We'll see how I'm fairing On the end of your lance Penetrating deeply The pain is unceasing Like a thousand bee stings While you stand there feasting Making me feel alive From the pain inside I guess things could always be worse Sometimes that feels like a curse Because I have problems all the same But it's true The sum of our troubles equal this game That we lose Even though I'd rather deal with *** and silence Than to be vexed by violence They're all just ways of imposing our will Whether it's through who we birth or **** Conflict is how we get our fill Every day a different fire drill We hate each other We date each other We underrate each other To deflate each other Pain is used as a tool Until blood lays in a pool These things that annoy us Are met by avoidance These things compound Until I can't be unwound I live in a world of contending intentions It's a world of our own selfish invention A world that burns bright So I can't sleep When day turns to night I hear death creep Seeking to take me from a life I never asked for But I'm grateful to have Life is about experimenting with opening doors And I'm stuck in the lab

Preventing contamination, A constant challenge in cell culture. Contamination not only affects, The culture in question and, Costs time and money, But also endangers the reproducibility of results. No cell culture problem, Is as universal as that of culture loss Due to contamination. Generally, contamination may be separated, Into categories of microbial, And eukaryotic contamination. Examples of microbial contamination include: Bacteria (including Mycoplasma), Fungi and yeast; Eukaryotic contamination includes: Cross-contamination with other cell lines. Bacteria, yeast and fungi, The three more common types of contamination, But luckily these forms are often detectable, Under the microscope and, By visual cues, Like colour or turbidity changes in the medium. Mycoplasma is a small genus of bacteria, That lack a cell wall and for this reason, They remain unaffected by common antibiotics. They are also difficult to detect, With standard microscopes, Due to their size, about 0.1 μm in diameter, And the fact that they often attach to host cells. To prevent contamination, Use 70% ethanol for disinfecting, Equipment & surfaces, Related to cell culture. Sterile filter the media first, Before bringing to the lab. Fetal Bovine Serum, A potential source of contamination, Contains mycoplasma. Filter it at 0.1 μm, or, Gamma irradiate it. Aseptic technique, Necessary. The laboratory workers be the last, But not the least source of contamination. Teach them the ideal laboratory practices, To ensure asepticity in a laboratory.
