"invent" poems
What is a "soul"? Seriously, what is it? Ambiguity obviates all simple and complex definitions. If "souls" do exist, I suppose my "soul" is transmogrifying, Transfusing the screen. The key is Transition Of a remote position. Maybe someday a scientific physician Will invent a tracking device to track its travelling distance? Sounds sort of like a Stephen Spielberg novel The genre of science fiction Or is it? 7/18/11 (c) 2011 Brandon Antonio Smith

"Soul" Searching
(for Christopher Isherwood) Seated after breakfast In this white-tiled cabin Arabs call the House where Everybody goes, Even melancholics Raise a cheer to Mrs. Nature for the primal Pleasure She bestows. *** is but a dream to Seventy-and-over, But a joy proposed un- -til we start to shave: Mouth-delight depends on Virtue in the cook, but This She guarantees from Cradle unto grave. Lifted off the ***** Infants from their mothers Hear their first impartial Words of worldly praise: Hence, to start the morning With a satisfactory Dump is a good omen All our adult days. Revelation came to Luther in a privy (Crosswords have been solved there) Rodin was no fool When he cast his Thinker, Cogitating deeply, Crouched in the position Of a man at stool. All the arts derive from This ur-act of making, Private to the artist: Makers' lives are spent Striving in their chosen Medium to produce a De-narcissus-ized en- During excrement. Freud did not invent the Constipated miser: Banks have letter boxes Built in their façade Marked For Night Deposits, Stocks are firm or liquid, Currencies of nations Either soft or hard. Global Mother, keep our Bowels of compassion Open through our lifetime, Purge our minds as well: Grant us a king ending, Not a second childhood, Petulant, weak-sphinctered, In a cheap hotel. Keep us in our station: When we get pound-notish, When we seem about to Take up Higher Thought, Send us some deflating Image like the pained ex- -pression on a Major Prophet taken short. (Orthodoxy ought to Bless our modern plumbing: Swift and St. Augustine Lived in centuries When a stench of sewage Made a strong debating Point for Manichees.) Mind and Body run on Different timetables: Not until our morning Visit here can we Leave the dead concerns of Yesterday behind us, Face with all our courage What is now to be.

There's a silence in the evening, A silence most displeasing. It's not the absence of mowers running, Or bedsheets flapping, motors humming. Trains still shunt, foghorns blast, Where are the sounds From our past? It's not the sound of contrary laughing Walking from a parent's lashing. Something's missing,  sounds are gone, Familiar sounds from our lawns. The sound of rope slapping cement, Fantasy games kids invent. An echoing slapshot before, "Car!" These missing sounds are so bizarre. Those yestergames we played in jest, Like Hide and Seek at dusk was best. But outside games gave way to screens, I'd rather hear childish screams.

<><><><><><> Talk nerdy to me It's my thing! Use words so pedantic They're obtusely romantic Let's politick and homilize (For philosophy use French and Chinese) We'll ramble until we're halfway wise Or let's invent a new word, at least Talk nerdy to me SNL and X-Men Then note the plot holes With a trendy quill pen If you can't talk nerdy to me, Just be yourself. That's also gutsy

Talk Nerdy to Me
I log into the network of my self-esteem, To see the hearts and the wows and the laughs flooding in. A simple 'like' wouldn’t cut it anymore ‘Likes’ were so 2010, even 2010 was bored. ‘Cause that’s the zeitgeist of the age, you see, A tendency to wear hearts on sleeves. Loves and kisses are a dime a dozen, With a million friends and followers double. National debates and social justice petitions, Real crises, distorted renditions. High definition photos of disaster zones Flash up against cat videos on every smart phone. Snapchat filters do not lie, Just tell a story of hours gone by; Selecting the perfect background, the ideal shade To express love on the dozen’th date. But that’s the zeitgeist of the century, A tendency to wear hearts on sleeves. To document in minute detail, with extensive pictorial evidence Clockwork days of humdrum nonchalance. And perhaps the generation that came before Would call it vanity, vainglory, or something more. But it ain’t like they were without their sins, We didn’t invent tabloid columnists. And now that we are at the end, Let me sign off with this request: Like, comment, and share your love Let your heart fall out of your shirt cuff.

UNEMPLOYMENT All we hear about is unemployment, Appears to be a global torment, Couldn't we of think creative solutions, New inventions, using less pollution? New ideas, concepts for the plebs to need, What can we invent today? Yes indeed, We could start by teaching global literacy, Imagine how many books we'd need! What about one holistic food capsule, Made in Australia, daily and healthful? Then we could grow forests and sell trees, The world does need oxygen to breathe. We could sell books and food pills, Get your own ideas, not such dills! Let's hear this motto in our schools, What can we invent today? Beautiful!

It’s easy to invent a Life
we always want to re-invent ourselves when we feel rejected, unwanted, left to the side. we dye our hair or cut our hair or style our hair so differently, so drastically, so unrecognizable. we pack on make-up or strip our make-up or pierce our faces, belly buttons, get tattoos, choose a permanent mark to remind us of something solid; something that represents self-sufficiency or this too shall pass, because we know we are gonna feel rejected, unwanted, left to the side again (and again, and again). we buy new clothes, give away old ones to our friends, new shoes, new bags, new look. and we’re always picking up new vices, new habits, new addictions. cigarettes, alcohol, razors, all the late night reckless binges on wine, narcotics, food, cutting ourselves. sometimes we pick up healthy ones too, like running, swimming, dancing, yoga, meditating, resetting sleep patterns, taking vitamins, treating ourselves to the spa, eating regularly, getting out of the house to see friends. we either avoid intimacy at all costs because we can’t fathom the concept of trust anymore or we dive into it with practically anyone, just to feel something real because we are so ******* lonely, but we never really feel anything real at all. we make resolutions, goals, plans for our next relationships so that they won’t follow the same patterns as our last crumbling ones (they usually still do). some of us change what we like, what we want, what we need to impress people so that they fall in love with us and will never leave us. we begin disregarding ourselves for another person, or disregarding everyone else for ourselves, both because we don’t want to get hurt again. and then somewhere, somehow after weeks, months, maybe even years of the full fledged wavering of destruction meeting recovering meeting ignorance meeting shyness meeting loneliness meeting accepting meeting fear, we start to see the intricacies of the pattern much clearer - we make all of these sudden changes because we just want to feel better, we just want to be better; that’s all. it’s taking charge, which is healthy. it’s also making fact and point that we need to change to deserve love, which is unhealthy. all of it is like learning algebra for the first time, some of us take a bit longer to understand it all; the formulas, the variables, the balance. and once we understand the formula, the variables and the balance, then we can welcome back the beautiful, real version of ourselves we’ve been trying to cover up.

I am dreaming of becoming the person I want to be... I want to become a photographer. The one that could capture every moment, so that later will be remembered. I want to become a painter. The one that can make an art through hues, that can make people's life more colourful. I want to become a chef. The one that can cook all kinds of dishes, that can make our lives more flavourful. I want to become a scientist. The one that can invent new things, so that people will recognize me. I want to become a politician. The one that could serve the public, to stop the poverty. But I can't become all of these.. No matter how high I would dream.. The real me will have to be just me

Who I Want To Be
I hate you. Almost as much as I love you. I've been fantasizing about stabbing you in the legs the way I used to fantasize about kissing your face. I thought that I had one person I could always count on, I just knew you'd never betray me. Guess I was wrong. You broke my heart, I want to break your spine. You make the worst ex ever, and now you're mine. I want to hurt you the way you hurt me. I want to stuff glass into your arteries. I want you to stop saying you're sorry. I want you to invent a time machine, So this'll never've happened. So neither of us will've learned this lesson. "Darling you're the world to me" "My love, you make me so happy" What an idiot I was to believe these things. Now you've got me writing slam poetry Because I figure it's better than murdering you- And that little ***** you ****** too. You were drunk! You felt alone, You were confused, And guess who was right there to comfort you? That's no excuse. I sure hope going down on someone new, Was worth throwing that rare and beautiful thing we had away. I never knew someone could hurt me this way. Oh and by the way, I hate you.

1. Spread claims you are the only one who can stop corrupt politicians and their dependence on the rich (even though you yourself belong to the rich) 2. Spread lies and insults about anyone who might look like a serious opponent 3. Once you are in power, continue 1. & 2. and put your rich friends into influential positions in state offices and courts, give tax breaks to the rich and claim that everyone benefits from them. Declare any information that runs counter to your lies „fake news“. 4. Invent threats to the security and well-being of the nation and then claim you are the one who can solve all the problems by strict measures, like building a 2,000 mile wall against those criminal immigrants that threaten your people – what the „fake news“ reports as a few thousand refugees from neighboring countries who flee from misery and persecution and crime and hope to get asylum in your country of 350 million. 5. Cut your aid programs for the home countries of those resfugees so that the situation there worsens even more and even more people will try to run for a better life, and you can rhetorically justify inhuman security measures at your borders. 6. On a different field, isolate your country internationally, be the elefant in the china shop, break or end international agreements, destabilize whole regions, and then threaten to send the military – all of which, you tell your voters, makes your country great again. 7. Start trade wars with old global partners, accusing them of taking advantage of your countrty, and when your own economy suffers from such idiocies, calm your afflicted followers with federal subsidies that jolt the nationl deficit to singular heights. 8. Fire (or mob into retirement) any critical person in your government until all your officials speak with your voice. 9. Look around for a worthy cause to be the focus of your consoldidated power. 10. Start a world war and lose it.

I contemplate these crossings illuminated by clouds between a shape of thought and its veils we didn't invent a screen-reality it was already there, in the scriptorium of mind I contemplate this geography known only by fingertips unworded broken lines in tense bodies I wonder about the lineage of tears, of hopes how we grow old in this ardour, in the burning of bridges I nod, I frown at the glaze of time I move to the center of seeing like a novice I gaze at the poliphony of being at our Janus faced trade with flames I say to myself it's good to decenter the "I" in this poem however,  there is no purity of words height after height and depth after depth we betray a simple evidence: we belong to the same air will we regret our rush towards the malaise of thought, will we be rowing over the theft of light? an invisible will is building up, an antifragile declamation, the soul's defamation

No we're not learning about inventors. No we're not learning about scientists. If we were, that would be great, But we're not, Instead we're learning about lying thieves, And overrated ones at that. We should be learning about real inventors, That didn't steal ideas from others, And were lucky enough not to have ideas stolen from them, Like George Westinghouse. We should be learning about real inventors, And real scientists, That sadly went unrecognized, Because their ideas were stolen, By so called inventors, That were in reality total jerks, Like Nikola Tesla, And Rosalind Franklin. However, instead of learning about true inventors like them, We're learning about the likes of Thomas Edison, Guglielmo Marconi, James Watson, And Francis Crick. Here's a "fun fact" about Thomas Edison, He promised Nikola Tesla 50 grand, In exchange for fixing his machines. However, when Nikola Tesla was finished, Several months later, He not only didn't pay Tesla, He mocked him for asking, He said that he was joking, And according to some, he was offered a raise of 10 dollars According to others, he asked for a raise, and was denied it, Either way, Tesla quit. Here's a "fun fact" about Guglielmo Marconi, He didn't invent the radio, Nikola Tesla did. However, Marconi pulled an Edison, And stole Tesla's invention from him. Luckily, although sadly too late, Tesla was rewarded the patent. Here's a "fun fact" about James Watson and Francis Crick, They took credit for Franklin's discovery. Why do we have to sit in social studies, Listening to Youtube videos, And reading books, And doing plays, That people created for school kids, About so called inventors. When instead, We could be reading books, Listening to Youtube videos, And doing plays, That we created ourselves, About real inventors. I want to get a real education. I want to learn about the truth, Instead of lies. So please teachers, Principals, Superintendents, Common Core Professionals, State Test Professionals, Please let us learn about the truth, Please don't make us learn about lies.

The Genius Philosophizing the universe One who thinks of quadratic theories of space and time On his free time The one who thinks of beautiful poetry To a delightful muse The Madman Inventing ways he can put math to his cause Always thinking of things to invent Ideas- a storm of them Intelligence- enormously, yes Standing behind a corner Stalking his love I ask you: Is there much difference between madmen and geniuses? Aren't they the same?

The Genius vs. The Madman
Sinking like a carelessly cosmic ****** on the 4th of J-U-L-Y, while a distressed young mountain lion lies on your feet. Watch out for the cautious rubber shark inside the lines. It'd be something like Frank Zappa stuck on a deserted island with a dealer of his liking or disdain.  I believe in outlandish crazy industrialists in the distance between here and nowhere.  Lucifer has been infused with witchcraft and crack ******* Mindless ******* Thank your God.  Excellent nutrition is being presented as gluttony. Which in turn has caused your little sister to make daily offerings to a porcelain god.  Pleasure didn't invent rebellion but rebellion did however invent pleasure. Don't confuse the two.  A believer is magnetically drawn to immorality, much like man is to faith.  Inspiration simply radiates free energy and a smile should never be compared to a frown.  Dreaming can be mistaken for productivity. Dream big people, dream big.

i just lamented a more complex version of this; i just cannot believe we denote the same thing in order to share an understanding of the same by denoting as such, but when acting we feel so differently about it; imagine the noun iran in the mouth of an american, then picture the verbs subsequent... then imagine the noun america in the mouth of an iranian, then picture the verbs subsequent: words hold as much emotion as actions discard, even though the actions are worded, and the words are almost imaginary when concerned with what iraq was when given belshazzar. i wonder if as many people would **** or die for the noun apple, as they do for allah - say the noun apple... apple apple apple long enough... will you get apple juice? well no, so if you keep on saying the noun allah allah... will that thing materialise? the imaginary atheistic sense of the word allah, is that humanity turned the noun allah into a verb of its own chosing due to man's free will, i.e., say allah casually over coffee, now say allah in jihad clothing... the same noun among diverse verbs... might as well invent a new grammatical category of nouns and verbs mingling... nouverbs... what noun invokes what action, consolidated in what are excesses of adjectives, given the quality of a life lived - the man who casually said the noun allah in a coffee shop in denmark managed to integrate into danish society and start up a newspaper... the man in syria who "casually" said the noun allah in a coffee shop in syria didn't manage the former... because his orientation of the noun changed the path of the sequence of nouns / beheaded nuns, since the cutting of the word verb, managed to craft non-verbum-ergo-actio. in defence of avoiding one’s own mortality, one speaks against one’s own death, thus one speaks with the enemy of the people one shares a life with, for a fake chance of the feeling of prolonging.
