"hosting" poems
Threaded brows and polished nails, Pouting lips and ruffled skirts. Doing it slow, with a Magic Mike look-alike. Hosting shows for the richest of the slums. Wearing glittering rocks,  buying Vuittons. Stolen dollars, well spent before their time inside.

Gatsby ( 2008)
'We were killing pigs when the Yanks arrived. A Tuesday morning, sunlight and gutter-blood Outside the slaughter house. >From the main road They would have heard the screaming, Then heard it stop and had a view of us In our gloves and aprons coming down the hill. Two lines of them, guns on their shoulders, marching. Armoured cars and tanks and open jeeps. Sunburnt hands and arms. Unarmed, in step, Hosting for Normandy. Not that we knew then Where they were headed, standing there like youngsters As they tossed us gum and tubes of coloured sweets'

Here's one for the gamers dungeon dwellers, competitors and casual players Whether they're at home or at a friend, footballers, car racers or dragon slayers To the world that looks down on us for those who's hobbies least appeal Just because they don't understand the reason or share the passion we feel Gamers like acheivements each to their own Whether its to vanquish the opposition build, or break their enemies throne Is that so different perhaps they spend a lot of time at home But isn't playing online with their friends a little better than just sitting alone on ones phone? The world of gaming has evolved and adapted so much It's a common to see a mother aligning fruit or a child with a flapping duck And is it such a bad thing if the players are actually having fun It may not be making them better but I can think of many worse things they could have done They say games encourage violence but these people are some of the kindest I've ever seen Theft, ****** and street racing would it not be better if these things were only done behind a computer screen? For many, its more than just a game and can lead to some desperation But people need to know the limits and play in moderation For some it's to do things they wouldn't normally do or say on a daily basis A couch potato wanting to explore the world avoid boredom, keep their mind from stasis To feel the breeze of a challenge drive a fast car or sword-fight, maybe even do some parkour Whether they want to skydive or skate over a hill To be able to do something dangerous without having to sign a medical bill We all have our reasons some play casually while others play to vent E-gaming has become so popular now hosting world tournaments and many gaming event This is how we are so please let us be Our motives are like captured birds are we are just setting them free Whether you want to be a princess or guardian of a banana tree You can do whatever you want just follow your dream People will always be different this is just another sub-culture; like fans of a band But we are the gamers and by this title proudly we stand

For the first time on campus, Sisters on the Runway will strut and pose for domestic violence awareness. Sisters on the Runway will be hosting its first annual fashion show from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. tonight in the Business Building. All proceeds will be donated to the Centre County Women's Resource Center, Layla Taremi president of the organization, said. Sisters on the Runway is a national student-run organization that raises awareness about women and children who reside in domestic violence shelters. There are over five chapters throughout the nation, each supporting the same cause to local shelters. It was founded in 2009 and has grown since then, Taremi (sophomore-marketing) said. Aside from the fashion show, which is the biggest fundraising event that the organization hosts, Sisters on the Runway is also responsible for other events. The organization hosts a chalking event where they write facts about domestic violence on sidewalks using chalk. This is a way for them to raise domestic violence awareness, Taremi said. It also hosts a walk where all participants walk a mile in heels for awareness. The show will consist of eleven female models and three male models, Edie Alexander, the event planner, said. Alexander said the show is expected to showcase clothing from Connections, Dwellings, Diamonds and Lace Bridal and Harper's, who are also their sponsors. Looks Hair Salon will be responsible for hair and makeup for the models in show, Taremi said. "There is no theme for the show,” Taremi said. “It will be a wide spectrum of clothing." The male models are expected to walk the runway showcasing suits and tuxedos, Taremi said. Originally the show was not going to include male models. It wasn't until the owners of Harper's decided to contribute to the show by donating some men's apparel for the fashion show. All the models participating have been building up their confidence for the runway, Alexander (sophomore-recreation park and tourism management) said. "I'm excited for our first annual fashion show, I hope this brings more awareness to the Penn State community," Vice President Lauren Shearer (sophomore-supply chain management) said. The organization’s goal is to get a lot of people involved through different events to help raise awareness of domestic violence, Shearer said. "We’re trying to push people to come, not just Penn State students, because it's not an issue that doesn't only affects college students,” Alexander said. “It affects everyone as well."Read more here:www.marieaustralia.com/long-formal-dresses | www.marieaustralia.com/formal-dresses-adelaide

Watching As They Grow
THE host is riding from Knocknarea And over the grave of Clooth-na-Bare; Caoilte tossing his burning hair, And Niamh calling Away, come away: Empty your heart of its mortal dream. The winds awaken, the leaves whirl round, Our cheeks are pale, our hair is unbound, Our ******* are heaving, our eyes are agleam, Our arms are waving, our lips are apart; And if any gaze on our rushing band, We come between him and the deed of his hand, We come between him and the hope of his heart. The host is rushing 'twixt night and day, Caoilte tossing his burning hair, And Niamh calling i{Away, come away.

The Hosting Of The Sidhe
Greens and gold of lattice work cascading down the tree, This epiphyte, so infinitely, delicately free. A lattice work of green finesse, a miniature Cezanne With exquisiteness of spiky bloom embellishing it’s charm. Cascading down the grizzled trunk of gnarled and twisted hand The hosting ancient Kamahi looms loftily, so grand. Looms aloft with leafy bough so softened by the show Of ruffled, pinkish bottle brush amassing high and low. Hordes of buzzing, bumble bees so clumsy in their way, Tumbling from flower to flower collecting nectar’s day. With afternoon the waning sun lies hot on sultry air And little girls in pretty frocks skip by with not a care. Summer grasses long and dry stand statuesque and straight With sweet laburnum’s perfumed heads a nodding by the gate. Young heifers graze in clover in the dell down by the brook And the fantail dances daintily seeking insects in the nook There’s a special, quiet majesty pervading here, so fair With the thistledown afloat, so still with golden motes in air. Fills my soul with gentle feeling and a rolling tear, unplanned, For this blend of quiet ambivalence through my beauteous rural land. Marshalg “Foxglove” Taranaki. NEW ZEALAND. 19 January 2014

This Blend of Quiet Ambivalence
I guess we were bored, Or looking for something new. And there was a party coming up. Someone's hosting debut. So we thought we'd ask around, See what else was to do. And our **** dealer told us He sold other things too. He nicknamed it dizz, And it sounded quite fun. So we talked all about it, Decided to get some. We all pitched in, Asked for five or ten pounds. And went and collected it; Tin foil bound. Accompanying us Was a sober mate. He said it would be fun To watch and spectate. So we unwrapped it, Crushed it, Poured it, And drank it. The taste was disgusting, Of abstract chemicals. But we swallowed it down, A moment; seminal. They said twenty minutes, So we sat and waited. Our hearts were pumping Way before eight. And we went downstairs, Sat on a sofa, Biding our time, Sipping on cola... And there. What was that. A feeling. It entered the chat. Some warmth, No stress. And then a Very deep breath Of fresh air And emotion. Like emerging from the bottom Of a very deep ocean You had been down for years. Reggae was playing At very high volume. And none wanted staying Where we were. So we got up keen, And started dancing. One even went on the wet trampoline And bounced Up, down, Up, down, Could've gone till sundown. And the sky was gorgeous; Metallic, steel blue Mixed with orange and yellow. It was quite the view. But time was Moving on, So we packed up, And were almost gone Before keys jangled, And the door swung open. A parent walked in, And caused a commotion Of boys rushing out, Mumbling words and plans. We left quite abruptly, And sprinted and ran. Once round the corner, We couldn't care less. Nonchalant as usual, We enjoyed the success. And we walked and talked About pure, utter, ***** The iPhone X, some girls, And the absolute banger that would be tonight. So we strolled around, The sun on our faces, Feeling elated. Going some places.

To the one who hosts competitions… Which ******* gave you the right? I wouldn’t listen to your rules even if you paid me. Nor would I let you tell me how I would write my poem. I could write something totally not related to your competition and submit it. Maybe I’ll **** your girlfriend and let you read about how it went. She didn’t take your name when she came(just so you know) Who said you could take such liberties? I’m gonna bash your head in with an exhaust pipe And when it dents and gains a sharp edge I’ll scrape your eye with it Just one, because I want you to see… You wanna host competitions, do ya? Meet my little match Ever wondered how a lit match feels in your nostril? If I sparked it and let the gunpowder catch flame in your nose, how wonderful would that feel? Listen here Mr. you asked for this by hosting it… there’s no backing out now… I still have a few things to run you over with. **** umbrella? no splash guard? ugh… too messy… Ah my favorite! the serpent’s tongue. For that I’ll first have to break your jaw, then hold your tongue out Then I’ll stretch your tongue out with clamps and slice it right down the middle Such a fitting exercise. For you. You have become what you really are. I’ll leave your manny parts intact… I know how we are when It comes to those. I will tell you though, you won’t be able to use em ever again… sorry about the irony. Lets get down to business, shall we? I hate you. You know why. I’m gonna inject you with a pain enhancing serum. Then I will administer XXXX XXX It’s an ancient technique of entertaining someone. Dating all the way back to almost 900 AD It was banned, sadly, in the last century. Anyway, you’re lucky I have knowledge of this It won’t spoil our fun… lets start with the obvious places Eye lids, lips, ears, finger tips, toes, arm pits, the ******* the wrists….etc…. You shouldn’t bother keeping count, that’s my job But I highly doubt you’ll even live past number 233.

Dear Amber Rose, El pueblo unido jamas sera vensido. (A city united would never be beaten) "Half naked and I'm still not asking for it" - some crazy chick Poem begins: You are preaching women empowerment. Dress how you dress make your self feel **** Even it means wear nothing while walking in the streets. I get the motive of your movement **** Walk I guess that's what we should be teaching our daughters. But if you're dancing on that ***** pole now that's a different story. Tell us how many ***** you had to **** to make it to the glory. Hard to preach to a generation that glorifies strippers and undermines knowledge. I am so pro women but **** like **** Walk and so on are the reason we are separated men and women segregated. Your biggest concern is what next party you are hosting, while these young girls are all confused about their bodies getting liposuction. Trying to be you Trying to be you But why? when even Wiz Kalifa depicted you as an object and didn't glorify. ***** is power between the right pair of legs. Tell us how many motel sheets have you gotten wet. Such a shame our ancestors probably turning in their graves. Lauryn Hill wasn't naked and sold more then Nicki, Iggy, and Kim combined. The real definition of a role model Guess that's why you differ Since you're a *** model. To ***** licious to be a runway model. But perfect for the *** shot I want to spray up in your mouth model. Then go kiss your son with the same lips you rocked the mic model. Women rights is not about a dress code. Is so much deeper but what can be expected from a stripper. El pueblo unido jamas sera vensido. (A city united would never be beaten). El pueblo unido jamas sera vensido. (A city united would never be beaten) Sincerely, A concerned father

The kind that say "I've not done such and such in days." The "Such and such" being something needed to sustain life Who sit on their phones after telling you that YOU are hosting them On a Thursday night Whom dodge non-academic questions because they're hard And afraid the answer you expect is correct Who say things just because they want your pity Even if those things aren't true The kind of people who are ungrateful The kind of people who are stupid because Maturing and learning is too hard "It's much easier to pity myself and stay ignorant" they say Those people frustrate me Perhaps they frustrate me so because there was a time When I did a few of those things

These People Frustrate Me
*Let the playgrounds be there for children Hosting games which are played fairly Formative minds exercising for healthy future Open grounds let’s them breathe fresh air Embracing bonhomie and fair play Giving equal opportunity and space to each other Playgrounds will nurture the formative years Learning to play with dignity throughout life Growing up to be torchbearers of the nation Healthy mind resides in a healthy body Playgrounds be the venue for diverse congregation Spreading the message that games are not trivial So many feuds are resolved with dignity Children can teach the art of resolving strife A playground can be the hallmark for diversity Giving equal opportunity to all the players Let’s not botch up every possible place for our needs In the name of development, only concrete structures Only meandering roads leading nowhere Let the playgrounds be there for children*

The day I realized just how much you love me, was coincidentally the worst night I've had in a very long time. Friday night - its the night where my family and I go out to a local restaurant/bar because Its karaoke night and my family is hosting it as always. The clock strikes eleven o'clock and all the kids have left to go sleep. There are many people standing around the bar, doing shots, talking, chatting, flirting, touching, kissing. I sit by myself, watching every person closely. Studying them, studying the way alcohol effects people, studying the man looking, flirting, wanting to touch, my mother. She's had a few drinks. She can hardly stand on her own. Her husband having a few beers himself stands back, oblivious to the man studying my mother's hourglass figure. That's when I see it happen. He looks at her chest and his hand reaches up. In complete shock, I watch in horror at the events unfolding in front of my young eyes. Glancing back at my step-father, he is no where to be found. Helpless, I look away before I see too much. A few minutes later she staggers to me, "We're leaving," she takes me by the hand and walks outside. She was clinging to her keys when reality struck. "Mom give me the keys, I'll drive, I have a license. Please, give me the keys" She refused and dragged me in the car. After arriving home from the terrifying car ride, I turned my computer on to video chat with you. I wanted to tell you how terrified I was and how much I needed you to console me. At that moment, I heard her scream my name followed by, "Please get me the trashcan." I ran through my house, grabbing the trashcan, throwing it at her feet and running to my room before hearing the awful noises that followed. Slamming my door shut I cover my ears, trying hard to ignore the sounds of drinking too much, and thats when I called you. I don't know how you understood anything I said through sobs, but as soon as you heard my desperate plea, you sang to me: *You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are grey. You'll never know dear how much I love you. Please don't take my sunshine away.* I knew how much you hated singing - but you knew just what to do to help me through. That was the moment I realized how much you love me, and how much I love you too.

On an L shaped couch on the eleventh floor I spend these short days with my ghost, hosting tea-parties for silence drinking espresso like a cure for hurt- I need a drug that's stronger than Love and bolder than Compliance- -my brain has wrought violence upon itself as I tumble again and again into the abyss of affection, seeking the path but losing the direction. Perhaps when I called you, you detected the inflection of a woman who feels so absolutely that she can no longer discern... and without careful reflection nobody can learn. I was never good at playing for sport. I aim for hearts. Every day is Open Season, and my arrow will shoot true- I'll be ****** if I cannot find something to love in you. And I'm divided in two, no- a hundred and two, watching myselves like mirrors upon mirrors reflecting every motive, every spark, and every smudge that swings the pendulum from instinct to conscience. Showing the audience centre stage where the white knight swerves off-course to save any soul who's fallen off their horse. Love will be the end of me. Cupid, we need a divorce.

Identity
Am truly grateful for hosting you In my life you lived like a superstar More popular than the TV soaps. In the Hollywood of my friends you shinned, Before disaster was born to us We made thousands of decisions But Never was fate included. Many had made glorious entries But unbearable departure. It was intended to love and never to hate To have and never to loose. What would you do if one morning All joy turned to fear (dreams to past) Hopes into sorrow To chase so shortly And gone too soon I presumed I was preventive But it happened; like death steals the living. A disease undiagnosed With no announcement to make. Have got no more to chase Cause the choice isn’t mine to make. The beauty and fantasies Now buried in disappointment . Your face smiles with hatred and shame ………..Shalom to you Who crippled the Love that I had And washed my efforts to dust Nothing left to protect Rather all left to the blowing wind To determine its direction and destiny.

UN DIAGNOSED DEPARTURE
She split minds apart when she walks into the room, the radiance from the scarlet fabric on her honey milk skin polarizes the world to a central view. Her competitors already know the battle is lost, because every man floats away like a helium filled balloon Her magic works to the max, when she waltz across the dance floor like a beautiful witch on a Sunday afternoon. they wonder the name of the architect responsible for her wicked curves, a unique type of geography, surely she must be new. They think to themselves. She's probably with a politician, maybe a star who's gone home too soon. I am not worthy, I stink of my experience with the last two. As they waste golden moments caving into self doubts and relationship blues, From the shadows, He steps up to stage to play the game of who's who. He build's her confidence with an honest joke or two, she buys into his bold point of view. He excuses himself; gives her time to process his residue. He makes his return to harvest the seed they grew, She indulges, he is a perfect distraction from her new fool. He steals her away for a chat by the pool. He whisper's some words in her ears, and she feathers herself to recapture her hue. He tells her "I have a drink that will make your lips think its hosting a party crew." He makes a gamble like romeo wrote the rules. With eyes locked, he shows her what his lips can do The heats building up, she's waiting on him to put on the other glass shoe. She wonders how to make the night fair and true. "Let's go" words, he summarizes in two. Envy and admiration storms up the crowd, only if they knew. Later they dig deeper searching for clues. He tells them and they look confused. Its not about her or you. Its about building a bridge that brings together two.

An idled peace in the forest breathes Every thought in itself Whole. It must be the life spirit, the ministry, Pole to pole rejoicing. The thin veil lifted, a school of Sweeping wings. Let this strange Hill of nature's suit cradle Itself. Let that child rest. My cottage beads in July's torment. I dreamed of a fair day Is why I'm here. Revolving perspective, will someone Please hand me a credible vantage point. The lens to get an even look. This ancient, contemplating Frost moon. Quiet thought. Night beats on platters. Heaves Roving breath. Dwelling in Innocence Till birth Tender eyed, forgotten. Sweet, The day will come. She, today, moves in fabulous array Of shimmering sparks. Light pale drips From her shoulders. Bare wax, the space between myself And the candle. Blow away the pride and stand straight to her. Step in stride. Give her One to look at. The sense that life esteems joyfully Hosting frenzy indeed. Vast scenes of shipwrecked landscapes. Ruins whipped by choppy dust. Heaven's heart treads alone, Through the ocean's side. The path of dew is told by the sky. Lightning takes care of what is left. The sunken lesson, Knowing night is close. Shall We bend through the lilacs weeping? Laughing?

I Can't See Anything
A little known secret of actors: you can force yourself to cry by simply thinking about how badly you want to. Here's how it's done. Start with fertilizer. Remember how you felt that first year you did so excellently at school, all-year struggling and so devoted, woke up Christmas to your mother's purchase, eager for sugar plums and hedonist things, ripped merrily into math workbooks. The seed comes next, budding in the open tunnels of self-worth - when he told you that the thing you were best used for could be done by anyone, really, the oldest profession, and how you liberated your oils on canvas long exiled to make a scene of Rahab and Joshua, and cried yourself away on alien bedding. Water it all in whatever leaves the garden hose. When they whistled without a name. When your first time hosting supper was a catastrophe. When you failed to keep certain things alive. When the housecat burrowed in your warm motor, and you just wanted to leave so badly. Funerals of people you never knew, and bugspray in your eyes. One neglected message stays: anyone can cry.

Father's Day
As a resident of hope village be very thankful - If for breakfast you have just a cup of water, Say a big prayer to Baba and be very grateful. Know ye that someday things will get better! When stock in Hope Village, be very grateful! I once lived there and boy, life wasn't so easy, I remember how I would look so very sorrowful, Using a bowl of water to shave, that's crazy! Especially when I used old T-shirt as towel, And rotated an umbrella as part of my roofing life was hard but hope was on another level, I knew that answer to my prayers was coming. Despite the fact that I lived in abject poverty- Hope made my condition seemed less pathetic - All my situation was under God's own authority, And my goals and objectives were authentic. Never give up, hardship is only a transit camp. One day your rescue Angel will come souring, With solutions illuminated with a bright lamp- Lights you'll always need as you go hustling! To the residents of Hope village, never despair- If wind of change is yet to blow in your direction, Stay strong Hope village, real rescue is in the air, It surely will if the Almighty is your connection. I see you are a resilient bunch, so be very strong! Though trials will come, hold on and be resolute, Blessing for those with deep hope never goes wrong, From a veteran of the movement, I say a big salute! I pray you will keep to the fundamentals of hustle - Know that on that very special day of God's reckoning, Your stars will dance to success' beat, not struggle, And the village's talking drums will echo your blessing. Everyone far and near will know reward time has come. People of hope village, come get your reward for courage, Say goodbye to yesterday and say to tomorrow, welcome! Soon, your last sight of the mango trees in your village- Will be a breathtaking thirty five thousand feet far below. As the white magic bird climbs hosting your dusty heels, Sad faces will say bye and friendly faces will say hello. There you'll know how the answers to your prayers feels! Someday you will return as a great hero to your village, To lament on the audacity of hope and your very own story - With motivational messages to give everyone some courage, Poverty will no longer be the main topic, it'll be history ! #Vanguard-poetry23 twitter @ivanclappers
