"horoscopes" poems
ever since i was young, my gaze was drawn skyward. i could tell you the story of orion, and how to brush bernice's hair, before i could tell you that two plus two equals four. i know more about our vast universe, than i know about many of my friends. if you are not well acquainted with a pisces, let me give you a bit of an introduction: we are compassionate, imaginative, we adapt to whatever is thrown at us, and my personal favourite, we are unfalteringly loyal. however... we are full of self-hate, prone to laziness, we are escapists and horrendously easy to manipulate. i believe my horoscope today is complete ******** i do not feel utterly lovely, i know i will not score a date because no one feels for me romantically. i've nothing to flaunt. the horoscopes are saccharine lies, but, those traits? those are me. my soul is ancient, i feel the pain of struggles i have not faced, or rather, have not YET faced; i will split my soul in two i will break my bones i will give every drop of my blood i will breathe my last breath for those that i love. i spent two years of my life giving my heart and soul to a sagittarius. philosophical, adventurous. i admired him so. but his negatives-- inconsistent. overconfident. careless. he was a burning house. my mother, also a pisces, when all was said and done, told me to stay away from those sagittarius boys. they're dangerous for wary, fretful fish like us, who ask 'from what bridge?' when we are told to jump.

pisces (don't trust a sagittarius)
dear aries, had i known what love was back then, we might have made it last. dear taurus, you were always everything i wished i could have been. dear gemini, you are a fiesty, wonderful soul, i love you dearly, my surrogate brother. dear cancer, i still remember the first day we met, but i cannot remember the sound of your voice. dear leo, you are worth more than your protruding collarbones. dear virgo, our horoscopes say we are the perfect friends, but you are a heartless creature and i am afraid of you. dear libra, you are vicious, picking petty fights over nothing, yet you are still my best friend. dear scorpio, god, what a beautiful, fascinating being you are. how i always wished to be yours. dear sagittarius, i gave you my heart, and now it has two years and eight batterings worth of scars. dear capricorn, i miss our late night storytelling, i am waiting on an apology that will never come. dear aquarius, we are so different now, i cannot bear to speak to you. you are afraid of me. dear pisces, whenever i see you, you take my breath away.

letters to the zodiac
You can be my forget me not. Don't give it a second thought. Just commit me to memory Remembering every sensory Experience. Lets leave nothing mysterious. 'Cause I'm already curious. Virgo to my Aquarius, Horoscopes are hilarious When they match our routine. You've got the brightest green I've ever seen. Show me some songs, grab the coffee or tea, Or what ever else has caffeine! This can be our forget me not, So you never have to not know me.

Leo: Remember everyone is fighting. Be patient, forgive, but never allow yourself to be a doormat to those who care less about you than you do them. Forget the wrath. Find the joy in the power it brings you. Virgo: Do not stunt your growth trying to entertain the opinions of other people. You know in the end, you have to be the most important person in your life. Grow. Libra: Quit running. You will never find yourself in other people, so stop trying. Desperation does not look good around your neck. Hold your chin high and look inside yourself for what you need. Scorpio: Go. Stop leaving claw marks in your wake. Know that what you think you need is not always so. You are worth more than what you have been selling yourself for. Pride is important to you, but it is still okay to cry if you need to. Say goodbye to what is less than you. Sagittarius: It is okay to say no. Don’t apologize anymore for having an opinion. Speak your mind, let yourself be heard. Do not quiet your desires for someone else’s. Capricorn: The past doesn’t matter anymore. Close the book, shut the door. Stop searching for answers and know that it all happened for a reason. It will make sense soon if you let it. Aquarius: Do not make friends with your demons. Clean the skeletons from your closet. Take a long walk tonight and allow yourself to feel the weight of sadness like a moth eaten sweater. Fold it up in the morning and put it in a box. Throw it away. Pisces: Stop being selfish and cruel. Put the bourbon away, put your phone away for the night. Sleep by yourself and see what you dream of. People are not trying to ruin you like you are them. Forget revenge. Aries: Let go. Do not cling to what you think is saving you. Do not drink tonight, do not tell them you love them again if you do not mean it. Be careful to not push away the people who truly care for the one who doesn’t. Taurus: It is time to stop caving in on yourself. Reach out to someone, stop to smell the flowers. Find beauty in this world again. Gemini: You’re almost done hurting. I know your mother told you the storm never lasts forever and you doubted her. Let the rain leave you now. It is okay to not define yourself by your sadness. Cancer: Let the things and people you are bitter about leave you. Do not let memories haunt you any longer. Wash them off in the river while it’s still warm. Baptize yourself.

Everyone dismisses me as insane, But I am a prophet, Profiting, On the inane. When I get lost in stargazing My cup of cardamom chai Configuring constellations of cream, I pocket piping hot horoscopes Right out of the tea kettle. Remember -- I drink in the universe, Sanctimoniously symbiotic. So the next time I offer, To read your tea leaves, Left dried at the bottom of the cup, Don't scoff me off, Because what I do, Is translate the universe's art.

HOROSCOPES FOR SURREALIST WOMEN, PART I
Our planets spin in revolutions only science can explain; like how meteorologists are magicians when it comes to describing the rain, or the way conductors know at which platform, and at what time, your train will arrive, or how doctors can look you up and down and pin point, with accuracy, where you’re in pain, like a miller creating silk wholemeal flour from coarse capsules of beige and brown grain, or like experienced pilots landing again in LAX after 7 hours in the same seat in the same plane, or how writers can sit down at keys and make them dance into Steinbeck, Hemingway or the holy Mark Twain. Last night you escaped early because the girl you wanted to leave with left moments before you did; and now you’ll be back in bed checking if your horoscopes match and if your love compatibility is worthy of a ‘I’m in love’ badge.

ARE HOROSCOPES REAL?
I always saw a fascination in the stars, the far away galaxies Your eyes, the creases in your hands The way these all formed together in a constellation Exploding with stellar being Everything about you was celestial. Hours studying Zodiac signs left me empty I needed to find myself in your solar system Forcing life onto other planets Deserted meteors I saw in your mind I wanted to restore you. As I looked to you I felt ablation My mind melting away the ideas of horoscopes Making room for you and your astro being Never once wanting any sort of apastron I awaited the chaos. You are an evolved star Burning out slowly, ever so Sinking to be extragalactic A place I never imagined I was far from extraterrestrial. But orbiting around you I felt the brightness of our galactic halo Pushing deeper to reach your nucleus, I became your gravity As one, our luminosity pressed tightly on all sides Forcing darkness to disband, a large nova exploding from us And now we are an elliptical galaxy.

Astrology
How do I love you? I obsessively read Pisces love horoscopes though I am a Capricorn How do I love you? I vividly imagine our colorful future together though I know it's unlikely How do I love you? I unhesitatingly take your jabs at my best efforts to please you though I know you're projecting How do I love you? I ask myself, constantly, repeatedly why my love for you isn't enough though I do know the answer How do I love you? I incessantly interrogate myself a beggar for love, begging away though there's a treasure trove inside of me How do I love you? as I look longingly at my reflection at the woman who is still learning to love herself though her soft, open heart has be restrung like a treasured violin

Let Me Count the Ways
I'm not one for superstitions Generally things are going good I don't believe in charms or trinkets You must believe me, knock on wood Spill some salt, throw over shoulder Never do that one at all You have to watch just where you toss it If you're eating at the mall You get bad luck for breaking mirrors The curse has seven years of life But, marry wrong...it lasts forever Would you trade your mirror for your wife? Good luck comes from certain idols Rabbits feet and lucky charms If that's true I have one question Are there three footed rabbit farms? Voodoo dolls they have bad juju Zombies coming from the dead I know I am not superstitious But, I have garlic round my bed Black cats and a leaning ladder bad luck say the witches queen But if bad luck is all around us Why do people like 13? Tea leaf reading and the tarot Horoscopes and chicken bones I think that they are just full of blarney I don't believe but, I'll kiss the stone.

Superstition
An emporium full of visual delights, moonbeams bounce and dance, around a pitted cloud clear site. A shooting star shining, a whooshing sound if heard, lights the sky as it blazes bright, starting in the east, accelerating, disappearing out of pleasured sight. Stars blaze illuminating dark, the galaxy forming its magical map of horoscopes in this glorious orb, Its North Star guidance for some who navigate upon our planet earth be it on land air or under the sea, a million or more miles the distance should we achieve the ability to or want to go see up close these glowing planets of rock, gas and ore. Dying stars growing in their brightness, as if, a last attempt of holding life, Glowing brighter than before their internal charges disperse, fading no longer able to ignite. Dancing colours in the north and south, painted great abstracts wide and far, Hues of fusing reds oranges yellows greens across dark blue, Spectacular moments for those with time to sit, observe and view, these magical electrically charged special dancing hues. Reflections distorting down below, hues shading, appearing blushed as oceans gush and light rides upon a moonlit magnetic heaving tide, a tide awaiting, a stage set for two Only you can see the magic being created in front of misted, barely woken if open eyes, Only you can see the rising spirits coming up to play upon the core of sphere, Under the kaleidoscope twinkling melee filled bustling sea and sky. Rise up, a beckon, a call to you, come join this light filled orb of invisible tunes, Where a piano plays a serenade and the orchestra complements with Soft sounds of Trombones, cello’s, violins, tuba’s, drums and flutes A tempo set to sweep excited people off their seat and on into their dancing shoes Rise up in your sparkly dancing dress and shoes for you are floating Imagination growing with every timeless move Twinkling stars blinking approval, reflections in the agreeing tide as it ebbs and flows. Rise up, move, dance, sway, step and jump to those imaginary magical tunes A prince of darkness, a dreaming queen   A loving scene, a glory electrically charged night time dancing dream.

My Astrologer, *** and Love’ horoscope, for Halloween, is grim and on-trend for me. (Libra) “Get ready to take some chill-time - give yourself the space to recover. People pleasing is out, boundaries are in!” Yeah, I’m like Texas, I have unsecure boundaries. Sure, I KNOW horoscopes are horoscopes but while other signs get unicorns & puppies: Aries: “Use your deepest desires to please yourself, step into your power.” Gemini: “Your curious and bubbly nature shines, shoot your shot for that special someone!” Cancer: “Be at home in your feels, your needs & emotional expressions are valued, go deeper.” I’m getting **** it up buttercup,” thanks universe - what did I ever do to you? We’ve been scanning the teen magazine fall looks, “We’re living in a bold era, a time of expression!” They declare, which means dramatic-metallic eyeliners, goth grunge, bold reds and Beyoncé’s “Renaissance silvers.” Luckily, Yale’s pretty low fashion environment, because seasonal changes are a lot to keep up with. I love Autumn, with its colorful leaves, pumpkin lattes and colder nights, but coming from the south (in ‘21), I had no idea how badly heated air could dry out my skin and hair (freshie year, my thumb literally started to crack, like a plastic Barbie). In the spirit of fall fashion and maintenance, my entire crew made an Ulta store run this morning for hair masks, detox tonics and skin moisturizers - we’re ready, bring on the cold. The best smelling places on earth are Ulta and Yankee Candle stores. In my religion, heaven smells like Starbucks in the morning, Chick-fil-A around noon and Ulta stores as the sun goes down and things turn dreamy and romantic.

Am I right?
I stalked our horoscopes; I deciphered the coffee grounds. I even took the time piecing the broken mirror back together to read between the cracks, in hopes I'd receive a sign. The Universe told me to stop searching the unknown for answers I already know. My coffee grounds suggested that I needed to sleep, and the shattered mirror crooned: "Put yourself back together before you try to mend another."

Coffee Grounds
I took Billy Collins to lunch with me today. He kept me company, Horoscopes of the Dead and new versions of Dante’s hellish sandwich. My pasta was dry, but I ate it between stanzas and between pages. You walked in, backpack and all, at the top of the stairs. I choked on some graded cheese, because of the way you looked in your khakis. I hate the taste of cucumbers but I would have kissed you anyway. Even though, I sometimes laugh a little too loud in the mornings you still make sanctuaries out of my sheets, covering us in a layer of polka dots, craving each other’s skin, listening the lullaby the ruffles of the duvet make. And even though I sometimes know that wanting you has its clumsy consequences, I still lose my breath when you walk up to the lunch line, or when you grab my face with both hands, or when you say my name backwards between sighs. Maybe Billy understands, and maybe I can just stay a poet. Maybe, you would look good on me. I’d love to try you on. But I lost my breath when you walked in this afternoon.

horoscopes, no longer align with our constellations scholars, forgot to take into account a slight shift in celestial bodies i spend time planning the rest of our lives in the moments that come before sleep but what if your celestial body doesn't line up with my stars what if you are my Jupiter, but you want someone else's Mars?

what if i am not my soulmate's, soulmate?
I am a traveler I am a foreigner to myself My smile is 50/50 and by this I mean that it is unsure My eyes are undoubtedly truthful and I am always looking for light in uselessly dark places My hands are shaky yet steady My confidence wavers it comes and goes with the wind My body is a creaky robotic shell that is always tired I am incredibly indecisive My mind is like the ocean sometimes it is calm and clear and others it is a raging storm in which I struggle to stay afloat At night I look to the stars hoping to find a piece of myself I am a strong believer in horoscopes because I want to believe that the stars already know who I am I am a traveler and I wish to see the world and I wish to meet myself.

Foreigner
Chilling, to think "social media" (whatever that means) is really just building up halls complete with old tattered wallpaper for our ghosts to haunt like a rickety Victorian mansion. You, Pinned to a wall by his van, like a packet of paper pierced by a preposterously red pushpin, a coward is now getting off on being scared shitless, and overwhelmed with intoxicated rage, because he was trying to claw his way home, no matter the cost, like a fearful animal, and excuse and excuse and excuse us for our lack of pity. You, taken prematurely from your infant son, your infant marriage, your infant life, you're still around, frozen. Immortalized as you were, tagged in photos. "Desiree liked this" bears an odd resemblance to moaning from the basement or footsteps down the hall **** the bed call for mom Getting daily horoscopes as though you still need to figure out every detail about your personality, who you’re compatible with. Virgos don't like spontaneity. Scorpio is sensual. Taurus are stubborn in the way that flowers at a tombstone seem more sentimental than script on a screen. But then again the soul owns no defined location, no cage. But, even more grim, blow out the candle, One day I'll be there too, Plastered in white and blue, When sleeping dogs should lie.

Of Pins and Needles
heart beat hammers as i appear to study holy horoscopes over green tea and grand gestures i'm sure you've come to tell me where your hack sawed heart still lies, barely beating, instead i learn of your new found freedom as we take our buckets full of ***** bad habits, abusive fathers, brazen moms and bare it all on the table between sabre's shots in the laundromat as i fold every ******* item of clothing that i own i begin to dread the departure and the growing space that looms between us so i **** you in with the promise of a six pack and vinyls satiated for only so long you find my fresh buzz and the blank lines between us vanish, hands on my head and lips on my neck, i'm holding on tight, but it's only a matter of time until reality escapes me quick trip down the slopes and i'm over flowing with what defines me, our tempos are timed by the too fast kits that hammer in sync in our chests sun's coming up and luna's got more than just moons in her eyes, she sees me and then looks beyond me into past lives i'm reminded what it is to actually feel something and the passion is exhilerating and terrifying as my numbness is washed away, wave after wave, in comfortable silence ******* cigarettes and slipping through song after song

open seed; her busted fetus of death's frail womb and moisture drops soil's dehydrated tongue, a quiet resignation, understanding, is some triumph on the other side where the picket fence, traitor, glances in whatever direction he hears noise. & we exchange our horoscopes with our eyebrows, and the mini universes beneath them, circular and budding as medicines and poisons. && you are not shimmied away by the sand's magnetic force nor stand with planted soles on stone foundation. you are lured by wind's woe of distance.
