Once I undertook a journey, upon the very face of our entire world. To view for myself the many pictures, and written descriptions in all the geography books and History Classes, National Geographic magazines and movies seen. A Quest to see with my own eyes what I had only experienced second hand. In my mid twenties, like a dream, one foot in front of the other, I went about exploring. I sniffed and tasted the scents of foreign lands, Incense, Sage and Frankincense, fish curry, fried snake and even monkey brains. Walked in lush Jungle Bush and Desert sands, Along the shores of Islands and the coasts of many lands. Heard the voices of 30 divergent Dialects and cultures, smiling and laughing with the families and children of all of them. Set beside the fires of primitive tribal men, heard their chants to their gods above, the moon, stars and the sun, the ocean, the land. Clapped my hands and moved my feet in their ancient mystic dances. Drank their tea, Kava or whatever they shared grateful for their offered unselfish brotherhood. Stood on the flanks of the tallest Mountains in the world, on my toe tips, to try to see the face of the God of my youthful teachings, disappointed when I did not see him, or Her. Found instead an inner tranquility, imparted to me by Red robbed Monks from within their chants of Peace and wise earthly enlightenments. Strolled the cobbled streets of two thousand year old Cities. Walked among the ruined remnants of nearly forgotten once great Civilizations. Explored Modern European Citadels' of wealth and learning. Over time rode on planes, ships, buses, backs of open trucks, Horse pulled carts and human drawn rickshaws, taxis, subways, rented motorcycles and cars.  Walked perhaps 1000 miles. In all a journey of the mind and heart lasting three years. And why you might ask, "What qualifies you as a pilgrim of any kind, to travel so far, and wide?" "What was I looking for, what did I hope to find?"   All indeed, fare questions. When a boy, I read a simple five word line, “Seek and thee shall find". Curiosity and Horizon Lust compelled me.   The next obvious question you might ask is, after all that; “What did you find?” That answer is very simple, I found myself.

Jesus runs in Everglades, Mohammed climbs the roof The Angels stamp in anger as the Devil stands aloof, A wandering Pope in la-la land while Jewish hands do writhe Those apoplectic Muslims glare while Catholics pay the tithe. Religion, girls, has hit the skids…the game is up on God With rosaries rotating hard, theologians do nod, While Mormons rant moronically with frankincense and myrrh The irreligious bark and howl in Rastafarian fur. Sectarian’s recant Sanctum’s Shrine the rite of soul is lost As neophytes are dancing… the High Priest counts the cost, Theocracy unbalances as Voodoo’s stamp the floor And the Prophets throw their hands up, fast retreating for the door. It’s transcendental disbelief that’s nailed it to the Cross With the Priesthood chasing little boys all credence here is lost. With sanctity’s monastic plunge the pagans roar and shout As Shamans scream their incantations…God declares a route! There is silence in the Temple now, stillness in the pews As dust lies thick on altars, a nervous clergy holds reviews, What, once, was good and vibrant here, is now as dead as dust As the Blood Red Wine evaporates and Holy Bread…to crust. Marshalg Feeding the pigeons by the dusty, open door of the very, empty Chapel. 30 November 2013

Happy Birthday, Jesus. Happy Christmas Day. We have been bad, so now is the time To bow our heads and pray.     Happy Birthday, Jesus.     What's it all about?     You made the cake and you made the wish,     But we blew the candles out. Happy Birthday, Jesus. Listen while we pray. Please tell us why we can't get along On this Christmas Day.     Happy Birthday, Jesus.     What's it all about?     You made the cake and you made the wish,     But we blew the candles out. Happy Birthday, Jesus. Though we've gone awry Give us the strength and show us the way, And we'll give it one more try.     Happy Birthday, Jesus.     What's it all about?     You made the cake and you made the wish,     But we blew the candles out. Happy Birthday, Jesus. Here's our gift to you: It isn't gold or frankincense, But a promise to be true.     Happy Birthday, Jesus.     What's it all about?     You made the cake and you made the wish,     But we blew the candles out.

Ring them bells Let the people know That Christ was born today Ring them bells Let the people know That today is Christmas Day Hook up the horses Hook up the sleigh Head off to church No time to play God gave his son As a saviour of man Believe what you will or Believe what you can Ring them bells Let the people know That Christ was born today Ring them bells Let the people know That today is Christmas Day Three Kings did travel From the east by a star It was a sign from on high That led them so far He was only a baby And his story is told With gifts of Frankincense Myrrh and some gold Ring them bells Let the people know That Christ was born today Ring them bells Let the people know That today is Christmas Day He didn't live long Only made thirty three But his lessons still thrive Inside you and me We celebrate Christmas not the holiday season For the angels fore told His life is the reason Ring them bells Let the people know That Christ was born today Ring them bells Let the people know That today is Christmas Day So, hook up the horses and hook up the sleigh Get them bells ringing Today's Christmas Day

Ring Them Bells
Have you ever "dashed through the snow" "in a one horse open sleigh" Seen eight maids a milking saw the three ships I saw today Have you ever seen a reindeer With a nose that blinks bright red Dreamt of fairies and of sugar plums While sleeping in your bed Have you ever put a penny In the old man's hat Sat down in the parlor And played "the ministers cat"? Have you travelled off to whoville Seen the grinch, his fur all green Have you ever seen Oriental Kings Frankincense..I've never seen But, at Christmas, yes at Christmas We all sing and sing so well Of these things that we believe in And of things we know so well I've never seen a Christmas Where a snowman comes to life But, for me, he lives each Christmas With Jack Frost, and Frosty's wife Seeing is believing, But at Christmas, not so much We believe in Father Christmas Things we can't see and won't touch Christmas is more than  giving It's a feeling in your soul It's believing in mankinds goodness Christmas makes me whole.

your skin is pale silk, my white hart, my Sol heart, your blood as it thrums is red Eucharist wine, your hair all the sun's godly glory and gold: so Gloriana, lonely amora, who'd not call you the one and the only? you speak of the sweet whispers that the waves could-- could!-- bring, you, all fragrant with frankincense and rosehips and thyme, you, avournine, flow to and away with the moon's ebb and sway, and who'd not shiver and tremble before you, loreley! you claim castle and crown with your easy warm grace, you claim thrones of ice then complain of the cold, and to touch your lips to petals is to touch her face: but Titania, appassionata nostra, caprice and impermanence, grace and countenance, our lady of the lake!

I don't dream of you either. Not at night. The occasional daydream occurs. You crawl into my mind in sentimental coffee shop conversations we never shared, love made in hotels we never went to, picking up naked dolls with frayed blonde hair that the daughter we'll never have left out. Sometimes it's lovely not to question the reality. Usually the night drives keep me in Oklahoma. I don't know how many times I've stopped in Kingfisher to look at that terrible statue of Sam Walton. But he reminds me that no matter how successful a man becomes, in the end his legacy is depicted by his leftovers. There's a sadness in that. But also a freedom. Wednesday's drive took me to Ulysses, Kansas. Light pollution gave up just outside of Woodward. Guiding me like a weary wise man who forgot his frankincense, stars beamed and made for suitable company. I love passing through small towns at night. I become a ghost. I'm above them. I'm not exactly there. Brief haunt. Then on my way again. I parked about 100 feet from my grandmother's old house. Judging by the minivan, some young family's new house. They were in the process of adding to the east side. I wanted to tear at every fresh board. Instead I picked up a couple pieces of my grandmother's gravel. Put them in my pocket. Touched her old mailbox, and drove to the cemetery. When I got to the headstone, which read Merle and Virgil Mawhirter, I thought back to the last thing my grandmother said to Karen and myself. We visited her in the hospital right before she found herself in the pangs of a ventilator and scattershot science. It was her birthday. I bought her a book she never read. As Karen and I left, she stopped us. "Don't forget to bring me some ice cream. Good to see you, Floyd and Margie." Not sure who they were. Ice cream. Even at the end, she laughed in the face of diabetes. Do you think Tim will be the name beside yours on your headstone? I lied down by my grandparents' graves. Dim moonlight seeped through small breaks in the amethyst clouds. Dead leaves feathered to the ground beside me. I wanted to say some words of encouragement to her. For her, but mostly for myself. All I said though -- My name is Joshua, Grandma.

Michael said to Gabriel "You know the Old Man's tetchy, have you got your **** together? Have you got your choir ready?" Gabriel said, "Just **** out, have you got that star in place? I don't see it in the sky yet,  have you booked the allotted space? "By the time the magi notice  and start their journey west the party will be over, so I think it would be best if you tell Him they'll come later, that the vibe will work far better if we go ahead with the shepherds  and then have the kings come later." Mickey was a little miffed, but he knew that Gabe was right. He'd been distracted with the detail to ensure the star was bright. So Mickey went and told the Boss, "It really makes more sense, cos once Jesus is a toddler he'll enjoy the frankincense."

The cruciferous prophet sticks in my teeth- I think I'd rather have a tidbit, of thief; All covered, of course, in a vinegar sauce With just a light dusting, of the true cross. Some rarefied spleen, set sideboard, With red vintage wine; A.D. thirty-four Frankincense and Myrrh, baked in aspic; And saved for last, Shroud Flambe: digestif.

Dedicated to all my Poet Friend, as I wish them a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year - 2019 ! Kindly read the footnotes too. If you like it, do re-post this poem for wider circulation please! Thank You, - Raj A BRIGHT STAR OVER BETHLEHEM !              * By Raj Nandy* “We three kings of Orient are,   Bearing gifts we travel afar;   Field and fountain, moor and mountain, -   Following the yonder star ! “                                - A Christmas Carol. Named Casper, Melchior, and Balthasar, - @ The Three Wise Men came from the East, Travelling west guided by a Bright Star, To seek out the child born under this lucky Star ; And to pay their homage and before him kneel, For He was to become the Savior and King ! They brought Him precious gifts of Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh, - Which were also symbolic gifts by far! Precious Gold has been a gift for royalty always, For the baby Jesus was to become the 'uncrowned King' one day! Frankincense as a soothing perfume was really good , Which also symbolised His future priesthood ! Myrrh as an embalming ointment was being used, By the ancient Egyptians as a preserving perfume ! # This gift of Myrrh was like a breath of new life - in the prevailing gloom; While symbolising His sorrowing, suffering and crucifixion; And leading to His final resurrection, - To save mankind from their sinful affliction! So Friends, when you celebrate Christmas this year, Let us with love bring hope and good cheer! And help to wipe out those sorrowing tears, - By giving gifts to those destitute children and bless, Since we generally tend to forget them always! And let our gifts become a true symbol, - Of His kindness and love let them reflect and resemble! ………………………………………………………………....................... NOTES : - @ = One 8th Century AD Manuscript says that these Three Wise Men were also astrologers, who had known about the Prophecy of the birth of Jesus who was to be the King of the Jews! They were guided by a Bright Star which had shone over the town of Bethlehem in Judea, ruled by the mad King Herod! Their three symbolic Gifts signified the King, the Priest, and the Savior of Mankind respectively! From the ‘Gospel of Matthews’ we learn that King Herod had told them to inform him about the Baby’s location! But since they had been forewarned by a dream, they returned by a different route! So Herod gave orders to **** all children 2 years and below, fearing this ‘King of the Jews’ will one day take over his throne !! #MYRRH = was being used by the Egyptians during the 5th century BC, which they had obtained from Africa. It was used in incense, in perfumes, & in holy ointments; mostly for embalming , - signifying Jesus was to die for mankind ! The Buddhists Teach There is a door Between the conscious and the unconscious On the threshold of awareness Where, from this sleepy place Mind-door takes in space A snap-shot of what’s around The shapes and the sounds Be it red, blue or brown Sensory fed and felt and judged A conceptual conclusion Based on memory and illusion Served up ofttimes with a bit of confusion The sixth sense of inclusion Transcending time and allusion. Knock, knock. Who’s there? The unaware From where? Memory Lane What a pain Insane and mundane Tainted and sainted Familiar and unfamiliar It’s the object and the flavor It only makes sense To bring in the other scents Can you feel it   Through my poetry? Because I have no other way      I’m sending you the sweetest berry In bloom And tea scented perfume For some lazy afternoon. Starting out so poetic Descended into the prosaic I’d like to stay in those high-minded places Between the sheets of my faces I’m at peace and war with myself No one else. I know I shouldn’t get attached Shrug it off with panache When I think about impermanence Makes me cringe and   create another circumstance A twirling happenstance A devil’s dance A devilish lance It’s getting better Like frankincense Then it fades Like the past tense How does one let go When clinging’s become a way of life? A hunting knife couldn’t pry My pathetic fingers lose Holding on to A hangman’s noose I’d scream and rail Holding on To the nail That pierced my travail As life stomped and pounded grounded me down But, I wouldn’t let go. Oh no, not me Fool that I am Was it a question of pride? A fear of the night The ego chasing its’ tale Personal blackmail? A forgotten memory A mishmash Lack of mindfulness A Pandora's box? Nonetheless, I confess A little bit of everything. I tell myself Baby steps Baby steps Baby’s need to let go And fall and get up Or they won’t learn to walk Or talk or grow up It’s baby talk And baby steps Knock, knock Who’s there No one Then come on in Naked and all alone   Rest on the threshold of time Rest on the threshold of awareness But, In all fairness Don’t expect it to last Such is the nature of impermanence Only the bliss shall remain. You can find it once again. When you learn to let go. But, Don’t listen to my advice As you can see I’m still holding on for dear life.

Mind- door
A BRIGHT STAR OVER BETHLEHEM! * By Raj Nandy* “We three kings of Orient are, Bearing gifts we travel afar; Field and fountain, moor and mountain, - Following the yonder star ! “ - A Christmas Carol. Named Casper, Melchior, and Balthasar, - @ The Three Wise Men came from the East, Traveling west guided by a bright Star, To seek out the child born under this lucky Star ; And to pay their homage and before him kneel, For He was to become the Savior and King ! They brought Him precious gifts of Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh, - Which were also symbolic gifts by far! Precious Gold has been a gift for royalty always, For the baby Jesus was to become the uncrowned King one day! Frankincense as a soothing perfume was really good , Which also symbolized His future priesthood ! Myrrh as an embalming ointment was being used, By the ancient Egyptians as a preserving perfume! # This gift of Myrrh was like a breath of new life in the prevailing gloom; While symbolizing His sorrowing, suffering, and crucifixion; And leading to His final resurrection, - To save mankind from their sinful affliction! So Friends, when you celebrate Christmas this year, Let us with love bring hope and good cheer! And help to wipe out those sorrowing tears, - By giving gifts to those destitute children and bless, Since we generally tend to forget them always! And let our gifts become a true symbol, - HIS kindness and love let them reflect and resemble! ……………………………………………………………….......................................... A Very Happy Christmas To All My Reader! So Herod gave orders to **** all children 2 years and below, fearing this ‘King of the Jews’ will one day take over his throne! #MYRRH = was being used by the Egyptians during the 5th century BC, which they had obtained from Africa. It was used in incense, in perfumes , & in holy ointments; mostly for embalming ; - signifying Jesus was to die for mankind ! Thanks for reading, – Raj. ,

Shahrazad, dancer of the night Behind the purple lattice of Persian screens You dance to the rhythm of ancient music Swirling in the mirth of frankincense Spinning into the night. I drink from the silver chalice of your smile Seeing crescent moons reflected in your eyes, The echoes of singing voices radiate the vision of desert nights As I feel my passion flowing A river of silver and gold melting into distant plateaus. Desert enchantress, Spinning your dance eternal in the lapis depths of evening's promise I surrender now to your smile Let me drown in the music of your dark eyes Your seductive voice, Leading me to misty moonscapes and ruined castle walls. Shahrazad, Swaying to the syncopating rhythms of drums and bells Beneath a Persian moon Drawing me to the magic of your spell.

The True Story of Jesus (with apologies to the believers)

I have this list and every morning I generate a report they are all my pre paid funeral contracts. When my need to touch the dead go unfulfilled I then turn to black magic as a last resort. Washing my hands with aloes, myrrh and frankincense I’m now lighting candles and burning sweet smelling incense. Hidden within a handmade miniature coffin My voodoo doll does doth hide, It’s hiding in my desks draw buried deep inside. Exposing now a needle filled body and face Telling the story of how many I had cursed and sent into space. As I am pushing that pin through it's chest and out it’s back Someone on my list is in front of their family, Having a massive heart attack. (SirCARSr. 11-27-13)

Black Magic Pincushions
O WOMEN, kneeling by your altar-rails long hence, When songs I wove for my beloved hide the prayer, And smoke from this dead heart drifts through the violet air And covers away the smoke of myrrh and frankincense; Bend down and pray for all that sin I wove in song, Till the Attorney for Lost Souls cry her sweet cry, And call to my beloved and me: "No longer fly Amid the hovering, piteous, penitential throng.'

The Lover Speaks To The Hearers Of His Songs In Coming Days
Lost to everything around me, rising in myself like vapour, Listening to Purcell and reading Neruda, thinking just about you, I could melt away like this, Burned so sweetly by your love, Speaking in many voices the day knocks at my closed doors: But the hammer, the drill, the Traffic noise, din around me, all seem to just play like drums To the effervescent dance of my spirit I will burn away like this, lighted in the fire of your love, I will become one with the fragrance Haunting the depths of existence; everything must become Like mist to my ascending spirit as I Burn away Consumed by the fire of your love: This will be the frankincense I light at the altar of love

At the Altar of Love
this is the start of my Christmas poems for your enjoyment Christmas is upon us and friends and family are near Helping to share the joys each and every year. This is the time that children look forward to Where they get Christmas presents and spend time with you Sharing moments and memories that have gone by As they look at their parents as tears form in their eyes. Christmas is not just for gift giving, but a celebration of life Of when CHRIST was born and made the ultimate sacrifice. The gift giving started with the Three Kings And with The gifts that they would bring. The gold was to honor a king; the frankincense was for the gods And the myrrh was used to anoint the dead, never realizing The path that he would thread. They was foretold of his birth, and he would be the king of kings And of the love that he would bring. I honor them on this special day for they were The first to give thanks and praise. © L.Rams 112214

** Your two ******* are like two fawns, twins of a gazelle, that feed among the lilies. Until the day breathes and the shadows flee, I will hasten to the mountain of myrrh. and the hill of frankincense. You are altogether beautiful my love, there is no flaw in you Come with me from Lebanon, my bride; Come with me from Lebanon, Depart from the peak of Amana. from the peak of Senir and Hermon from the dens of lions, from the mountains of leopards. **
