"claiming" poems
at 4:14 am im still wide awake imagining your body on top of mine captivating me, your large hands running down my fragile, tiny body, claiming everything you brush as "yours". at 4:20 am im still awake, imagining myself on all fours, your hand grasping my hair, pulling it into that tight ponytail i wear during the day, while you're telling me about how you could never resist me,baby. your words alone leaving me drenched and ready for you. it's 4:30 am, and texting you: "are you awake?"

Burning fuel but not to leave, boys circled town, came back to the station where they began. Gas exhaust drifted like spirits above asphalt, dissolving in the night. Girls stayed in the lot, waiting for men old enough to buy liquor, their names claiming the land- long after other names lay buried in the ground. They kept to the faces, legs folded on hoods, lip gloss catching the station lights, bracelets chiming, hair flips rehearsed, laughing at trucks circling back. They wanted to be chosen, and I tried to want that too- tried to be a girl among girls, waiting for the moment some hand would tug me out of the circle. But my eyes kept straying- across the street, to the rise that was not just dirt but a chest under earth, ribs shifting, a hum curling into my throat. Something skeletal in its patience, as if Baykok himself were sharpening arrows in the dark, waiting for breath to break. Built long before us by Ojibwe, still honored as sacred ground. The others smoked, struck sparks, sequins spilling from careless wrists, never thinking how easily flame might travel down, through us, into what we couldn’t see. I could hear bones shifting, a buried drumbeat, the land’s own warning. Every glance of the mound pulled me back into silence. It told me what the others didn’t want to know- that all this circling, waiting, was only the lid of a grave.

Ode to a *****
I. Time passes, another batch of refugees and migrants. Cities turn into new houses of gambling and vicious cycles. Some say only machines can speak clearly and most humans have lost what they have earned throughout all this time, just right on schedule. To own our language, and the relationships it sets into motion, we learn painfully, repeatedly like sunrise and sunsets. Claiming our own spaces and demons hidden in our conveniences and reflex routines, and learning the tricks that has kept peoples from fully healing from broken promises and betrayals throughout time. We own up to our language and its demons every day and night that we toss and turn into something feasible, edible, livable. II. #

A confident man feels not a need to speak on all things with which he does not agree Though in the proper time and place he is not afraid to assert his way And though his words at times cause spurn, he will admit when they are out of turn Fearing not the inevitable mistake, but rather owning it too late Caring and feeling without hesitation and not for reciprocal adulation Emotions are expressed appropriately; either subtlety or rationally As honest with others as with himself; recognizing what he does and doesn’t do well Claiming to know what he does know and asks when he don’t Pursuing tasks for their benefit and or joy rather than status or fleeting ploys Those latter things are often great fun, but worry of them yields none While in his mind there is good thinking, he is more occupied with good acting In order to have concerns of the ideological, requires labors that are practical On his confidence, he does not ponder, as neither he or anyone wonders of whether he truly possesses it. We know it.

On His Confidence
My orange dress I wore it last That night My soul you undressed I was in love With all of you You stripped it down Claiming we Belonged to you. I am reclaiming What is mine, What has always been Mine I take a vow I wear it now This dress I love My color of love Dedicate it to Ours to adore The one Given from above.

Jealousy If I could be but a burning sun, I'd scorch you with my wrath. All your labour and all you loved Would sizzle in my heat, And turn into steam. What I can't have, Why should I let you keep? If I was but an ocean blue, I'd envelope you in my foam. Grain by grain I'd wash away The foundation of your home, Claiming it for my own. I need to breach your comfort So I can have mine. I need to pour onto you Like torrential rain. I need to chill you to the bone, Like some haunted wind. For you cannot, should not Have that which I cannot reach. You snatched it from under my nose, And it kept screaming my name, But you muffled its voice. Your cruelty knows no end, So now you'll taste mine And I promise the pain won't fade.

Jealousy
would you listen or laugh at me            for claiming love's an ocean? neither a knife, nor a blindfold                                                       ...but a sea. there's a human-borne catastrophe.                        cast your eye upon those with no share.           the contents of their buckets are polluted and impure yet all but 5% goes unexplored. do you find yourself choking in your sleep?   why watch the waves from safe dry ground                                                   when you could delve in deep? do you live in fear of unchartered seas                                                    and life still left unfound? are you overheating if only not to drown? we 'love addicts' are water children. i run outside and taste the rain.   let's go! let's drink! let's swim! let's bathe                    and watch it seep into our pores                          -- it escapes me how you stay indoors!

From the ashes I descend, Rising among the flames, As shades of red. Orange and yellow, Blend within the explosion, Of my rebirth, Claiming my life force once more. My deep hazel eyes, Drenched in golden brown, Surrounded by a burst of jade, Speckled with dark green, Reveal my humility, Compassion and genuine kindness, Allowing you to behold, The window to my soul. The vessel, Containing my spirit, Conflicts with the feminine demeanor, Exposing sincerity, Comforting hands of a care-giver, The voice of loyalty, Gently escaping lips, Tears of empathy, Seeping with understanding, Kisses of affection, As soft spoken words, Depict desires, Hopes and the warmth, Of pure love. Mystery envelops my origin, Becoming a mystical being, With the ability to heal, The potential to inspire, Living proof of an alleged myth, Yielding in protection, As my plethora of feathers, Shield the individuals I adore, From darkness, Attempting to swallow the light, We yearn to discover. Blind Thoughts of denial, Shall forsake your eyes, If you pass judgment, Upon me, For my cloak of skin, Concealing my true beauty. As a Phoenix, I refuse to watch, The children of diversity, Suffer degradation, Living in fear of discrimination, Stifling the right to love another, To dress in garments, That correlate the body with the mind. I shall rage to cease, The hands of violence leaving bruises, Ignorance stripping, Breaths of air from a pair of lungs, As homophobia, Transphobia, and intolerance, Deplete individuality from a heart, Deserving liberty, The pursuit of happiness, A chance to survive. The Earth returns my soul, To reap the love, Concealed in assumptions, And sow acceptance into, The fields of society, As I continue, To soar into a cerulean sky.

My father is black and my mother is white And though we live in a new generation I still find myself having to give explainations on how all of this works The ignorance of race really hurts No this is not good hair No you can't touch it keep your ******* hands to yourself No I'm not Mexican or Puerto Rican Stop guessing above all else I'm black like you And I'm white like her I'm flesh and blood not claws and fur But see you don't want to accept me Of course unless I'm president Obama or Halle Berry Did you know they were mixed? Or were you so deep in the lime light you don't care Because on the streets I'm not considered black no matter how coarse my hair I use relaxers too I've had my hair braided I've been called ****** I've been followed in stores I've been sent to the end of the line for no reason Denied friendship for seasons And wouldn't you know (Being black was the reason) But its just not enough to gain any trust I don't look anything like white people so I dont even try Only hope for full acceptance from the other side And yet still I'm left feeling quite empty inside Where the hell do I fit in? Who's on my side? Since claiming black or white is considered a crime This was when I decided to become an advocate of self I found who I was Didn't need any help I don't let my race define who I am But I embrace both my colors They work well with each other And that's something society just will not understand

I.    Scared This is real for me This is love to me. And some days I’m scared out of my mind at how genuine this is. Nothing has ever felt this authentic to me, other than maybe pain. This is new to me. You read the stories and love is this all powerful magic and its so **** powerful that it scares me. It scares me that this thing, this emotion, may rip my heart out of my chest and leave it in a million little pieces. I’m not scared of you, I’m not scared of us, I’m not scared of a fight, I’m not scared of love, I’m not scared of forever, And I’m definitely not scared of heartbreak, my heart has known its scars and I’m not afraid of gathering more. I’m scared of an ending that’s everything but happy, I’m scared of the strength of my feelings, scared I’ll let you down, scared I’ll hurt you, scared of anything and everything, all my demons coming out to play and every inch of me is screaming run. I’m scared that I’ll run, I’m scared of losing you, of not being enough. But as scared as I am, I’m willing to fight for this. For us. For our forever Our happy ever after. II.    Two Two souls, more different yet similar than most, met while on their own paths. They continued together for a while, like many others. A poet and a soldier, each claiming their own hell, living in their own darkness. Finding comfort in each other’s arms. III.    Love How do you measure a relationship? By the future? By the arguments? I’ve always measured it by how far I could see down the road. And honestly, with some I could see into 20’s or 30’s, but never the end of our road. Those thoughts were foggy, these are too but more clear, everything is blurred but your face, where with them everything but their face was clear. With them, I saw lives I didn’t want, lives that were comfortably numb. I saw superficial happy endings. But with you I see my forever. I see 5 years down the road, chasing dreams I see 10 years, building a family I see 15 years, balancing life I see 40 years, retiring I see 50 years, walking down random city streets, hands intertwined I see 60+ years and meeting again someday in another existence   I see forever with you I want forever with you.

Today not all of our mistakes are failures Today I'm closing the door on the things we keep behind our teeth, the ways we never learned how to be soft, but always tried our best anyway this is a tribute to the lost sleep the nights I keep marked in tallies on my arms, the letters I keep locked up in a dark drawer, where maybe something besides moths and regret will eat away at them. Today, not all of our thoughts are broken today you take me out of my skin and I learn how to dance; the rhythm is choppy but I follow it anyway, after all we are only testing the waters here we are only stargazers awaiting some grand cosmic miracle, we are waiting with our hands in our pockets for something big to happen, we are falling in and out of obsession chasing strangers around and around in circles, throwing our fists in the air claiming "not everything is lost", slowly coming to the realization that it's also true not everything is found. Today you don't know what you're looking for but you can't stop searching the horizon, like maybe if you peer long enough, your brain will slow down enough to process the harsh thump-thump, thump-thump that tells you you're still alive that tells you you're still here that tells you you're still waiting And my fingernails are digging into my palms now from the suspense of writing and re-writing my name onto fresh pages, crumpling and collecting them in the bottom of waste baskets along with half smoked cigarettes and last night's rain, because it is rare that two paths will cross in this world with anything more than a brief flash of recognition, it is rare that anything better can be captured before it slips down through the cracks; but that thought was me eons ago that was me in someone else's skin today I'm putting nets out to catch the things we throw around & never keep, I'm writing your story into my daily script & keeping a list of "to-dos" before the big event; tonight I'm alone and I'm too busy to look out the window, maybe the stars will flicker or maybe they won't, but regardless I'm still counting my heartbeats to know that I'm here (still counting my heartbeats to know the time I have left), I'm still patching this wound up with fragments of could have been, reminding myself that not all of our hearts are broken, and not all of our moments are failures.

Hidden behind my desires. Fantasies of ecstasy frustrating me. My body tempting me sensually. Sexuality turning on me, arousing my entity. My fingers betraying me, ****** my body eagerly. Probing between my legs relentlessly, consuming my whole body; selfishly. Weakening my flesh; this tantalizing energy claiming the deepest depths of my ***** Scandalous imagery, mentally ravaging me, seducing me, teasing my lips, guiding my fingertips effortlessly, long fingers dip, disappearing; deep inside of me. My ***** tightens, the feelings heighten. Warm liquids drip, stone hard **** pulling and rubbing it. Wrist twist, palm grinding against my ***** legs clasp, my insides amass giving way, As I spray, my exhausted body collapses.

Inches below the surface, I can feel the sun just ahead, threating my lost consciousness and tearing my body apart. The incandescent light pierces the ground, the mountains scream fire upon the sky, crackles in the ground appear beneath my feet. What a pitiful anxiety made of sand! My body stretches, incoming dehydration, thirst and isolation; motherly desert, fatherly wastelands... Let me burn down to ashes and blow me to the wind. Make me feel uncomfortable and let me disappear in peace. I can feel the drought claiming my pain, gathering the dust that used to be my skin and remain in solitude, just like a snail then I find myself stuck in the nonchalant rage of the day. There is nothing alive, there is just an infinite ruin of land, dead soil and dying lives turn into stone by act of time.

The Drought
Feminism ˈfeməˌnizəm/ noun the advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men. People try to change a word into something else Fantasy, made up, fiction, created.... You get angry when something you hold dear is "messed up" "Diluted" or "polluted", But why are you so eager to change the meaning of feminism? You claim you are for equal rights, but not for feminism Are you claiming you drink water but not H2O? You want to make something different Your own, You want to make everything about you You are selfish, are you not? And your argument is weak, too. You say "Feminists discriminate, that's why you shouldn't be one." But do you know the actual definition? You are that lazy, To not search two words? Technology helps you know the definition, And a lick of time, But you are too hateful, lazy, and selfish to care. Join us. You're better here. Feminism means equality. Don't get it twisted.

#*My soul would not be stilled until You reached down and taught my heart to sing the song it had been made for, until I heard You singing it over me, drawing me and claiming me for Your own.* *A soul at rest comes only from a heart fully awakened to its strongest desire, from a heart that knows it is greatly longed for by the Object of its greatest longing. Surely there is nothing so powerful against a deep and agonizing grief as a great and passionate love.*#

~ Awakened to Rest ~
Fresh from the kennels. A whole world away.   Companion conversion for a young castaway.   A darling of distraction with irrational fears. The clumsiest canine with ever aware ears. Guardian of gourmet. Suspect of all sounds. He'll catch himself someday, spinning around. A tug of war here. A muddy mess there. A lick to the face of the humans in his care. How thrilled his tail and tremendous his teeth. How dug up the planet from paw underneath. The running for fun. The claiming of trees. The car window ride along - face full of breeze. -------------------------------------------------------- But now he's a master of "Stay!". His eagle ears succumbing to gravity's sway. Napping much more, barking much less. Now rarer the cuddle, the clean, the caress. Patch protector. Owner of no debts. A veteran of various villainous vets. Birds as trivial as the tennis ball is far. Eyes now as hazy as the indistinguishable stars. A howl at the moon. A loosening tooth. An ode to memories of a modest youth. They still love this pup. He still loves them back. May he long be remembered as he faces the black.

I truly believe that one of the reasons that the US is despised and condemned world wide is because of such views on such characteristics as: honesty, integrity, independence(this includes not thinking in a collective mindset which we do as a culture, everything is apple or windows, pepsi or cola, republican or democrat, people need to think for themselves stop claiming and just be), persistence, determination, morale, empathy, tradition/heritage, learning, chivalry, discernment, and humility. Instead of utilizing and perfecting these people of this nation and similar one's have become: prideful, dependent, drive-less, imprudent/unwise, insulting, ignorant(willfully so), objective, biased, crude, mediocre, and surface oriented. In turn we have neglected the responsibilities we have of ourselves. This has resulted in physical, mental, and spiritual capacity regression on a mass scale. Most people have no idea what they are consuming in their daily dietary intake(I mean really know what all the ingredients are and what they do whether positive or negative). Most citizens have also become, literally and according to the United Nations Education Scientific and Cultural Organization, mentally incapable and completely inane as compared to even 15yrs ago. We have forgotten how to have a community to the point that neighbors don't know each other anymore. We have exchanged the truly important things in life like knowledge and wisdom for wealth and appearance. We have completely forgotten how to survive without the aid of water treatment, electricity, and useless objects. One of the worst of all things we have stopped doing, is being involved with our government; instead, we have put our trust in them without oversight, and this is why we have been losing our liberties. I believe, just like Benjamin Franklin stated, that any individual who sacrifices even one liberty for safety/security... deserves to have all of their liberties eradicated. In conclusion, it is time to return our societies to ourselves. We need to relearn the truly important things in life and start living with ourselves, each other, and nature as we must to thrive. It is on us as a people to repair what generations before us, and our generations are doing; lest, I am afraid, our children and grandchildren will inherit the same ideals and expand upon them until we regress to the point that insolence, ignorance, and imprudence is the common norm... we have already begun to accept these. Open your eyes to the truth, at first it will be painful and difficult, but than you will be set free. WE THE PEOPLE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR OUR FUTURES AND CHILDREN'S FUTURES.
