I jumped on a freight in Monticello, Didn't know where it was going - you Had given up on me, baby - So, I'd given up on you. A rumbling song as the train rolled on, I had plenty-a shine to drink- I was trying anything I could, So I wouldn't have to think. Few and far between Are  the hopes I'll ever have Of loving someone who's loving me. I've been taken to pity, Like surely others have. All of my dreams Are few and far between. I could still remember how You said you wished that I would leave.    I'm giving you what you wanted. Something you can believe. You won't hear from me, anymore. I know that to you I'm dead. I won't ever haunt you, Like your words that won't leave my head. Few and far between Are the hopes I'll ever have, Of loving someone who's loving me. I've been taken to pity, Like surely others have. All of my dreams, Are few and far between. The boxcar slowed in the railway yard. I jump off - the gravel cut up me knee. I heard them barking, so I took off a'running. The dogs were closing in on me. I made it to the Vieux Carr'e Before the St. Louis clock struck three. Tell the children I love them. Or better, tell 'em not to think of me. Few and far between Are the hopes I'll ever have, Of loving someone who's loving me. I've been taken to pity, Like surely others have. All of my dreams, Are few and far between. I'll always wish it was different. I hope you find somebody new, Hope you find the kids a daddy Who's good to them and you. I hope you know that I really tried To be the man you needed me to be. I couldn't keep you from happiness, You couldn't keep me from being me. Few and far between Are the hopes I'll ever have, Of loving someone who's loving me. I've been taken to pity, Like surely others have. All of my dreams, Are few and far between.

To everyone who's lost someone they love Long before it was their time You feel like the days you had were not enough When you said goodbye And to all of the people with burdens and pains Keeping you back from your life You believe that there's nothing and there is no one Who can make it right [Chorus] There is hope for the helpless Rest for the weary Love for the broken heart There is grace and forgiveness Mercy and healing He'll meet you wherever you are Cry out to Jesus, Cry out to Jesus For the marriage that's struggling just to hang on They lost all of their faith in love They've done all they can to make it right again Still it's not enough For the ones who can't break the addictions and chains You try to give up but you come back again Just remember that you're not alone in your shame And your suffering When your lonely And it feels like the whole world is falling on you You just reach out, you just cry out to Jesus Cry to Jesus To the widow who struggles with being alone Wiping the tears from her eyes For the children around the world without a home Say a prayer tonight Songwriters: MAC POWELL, MARK LEE, BRAD AVERY, TAI ANDERSON, DAVID CARR © Universal Music Publishing Group For non-commercial use only. Coming to the final project and final Artist Statement of my days at Emily Carr University. I am more confused about Art, and what makes Art, Art. I have tried different things, some better than others, some worse. I have used different formats, different film sizes and different subject matters and focal points. However, The last ideas that I have shared have not gone over as happily as I would have liked. So, yet again, I find myself changing my project to please my peers and faculty. While doing so, I have lost why I fell in love with photography in the first place. Forgot all about my photography award in High School. Forgot about taking pictures of everything I see. I did that for me, and now it feels like Art has become some kind of popularity contest of who is more abstract and charged, something we’ve never seen before. But I feel everything is already been done, in one way or another. With sharing this, I do not feel, I can even remotely come up with something completely new and have some philosophical subjective interpretation of whether a picture of a leaf is just a leaf, or a tiny glimpse of global warming, or a sign that fall has once again, fell. To quote Andy Warhol, “Art is what is what you can get away with”. Has art really become, whatever we can bull **** our way through? I feel completely drained of any creative ideas or thoughts. So I have decided to do something for me. I have taken pictures of different places or things in my apartment. In black and white, with 120 film on RC paper. They are on 11x14-sized paper. I decided that photography was once a way to keep all the moments of my life kept, safe and documented. And this is what I plan to do. Document the place where I have been banging my head up and down the 4 walls of this space, trying to come up with something magical. Instead, I took a more literal route, and focused on the space I was in, trying to not create something for an institution and something for my personal archives. I think we as artists, and as individuals can all take some wisdom from Oscar Wilde when he said, “It is the spectator, and not life, that art really mirrors.” As I am my own toughest critic, I do not see myself in the art I have created over the past couple of years, therefore I don’t feel as if my practice is truly reflects my voice as an artist. Thus, I plan to create something within myself for myself.

John Carr was his name. He found himself on the corner of Mill and Main, a very respectable road for the area. He climbed over a rusted car eroding over time to see a gun fire to a yound woman and her baby sprawled in road. John walked to the man, their eyes still violently shaking from adrenaline. The two men prepared themselves with the smoking gun. John, defensless, undressed all he had until his bare bones carved the air. He rested his knees on the black pavement riddled with history, and prayed. John Carr’s splattered blood touched the babies’ hand.

When we were 12 I got my first pair of shorter shorts When I went over to your house I wasn't allowed to wear them Unless it was to sleep You were always jealous. I was rail thin. You were chubby, But had less ***** than me. I had no responsibities You had school soccer Volleyball summer jobs And raising your three Other siblings. Soon you quit eating And thinned out until Your ribs peeked out We sat on the bus I showed you my scars on my arms And you whispered "I put a knife to my stomach But was too scared to push in" Then we were juniors You gave blow jobs to Your ****** boyfriend While I slept. Your blonde hair and blue eyes Looked so innocent it hurt. You lost your virginity. Fell out of love. You talked about going to Arizona for College. That I should go with you. By now I was failing half my classes And going to parties on the weekends. You met other boys Slept with one who broke your heart And ran back to your First love. He willingly took you. Then we were seniors. You complained about him. About how small his **** was. How he treated you. How selfish he was. How he's a super senior that'll Be twenty one next year. He's a baker at Carr's. I think you secretly hate him. You say no more to Arizona. You say yes to University of Anchorage Alaska. Its an hour drive away. You say you're spending Your college years living With your grandma instead of Living on campus. Your parents dig themselves Into you and live through You. Your perfection. You are a settler. And I feel you'll be that way Your entire life.

Picture the scene… a TV company boardroom. “OK we have a problem”… Oh no! - Corporate gloom! "Thank you for turning up everyone… Listen in. The opposition has come up with a winner. Celebrity Pooch Walks with Alan Carr. I know… But Gary’s got an idea - go on Gary…” “So… Here’s a synopsis… It’s called ‘Celebrity Snoop Dogs’ We strap a camera to a dog’s back and send it through a famous person’s cat-flap…” “Sorry to stop you there Gary. Although I recognise the merits - and you may have it right… But that one’s on Channel Four tonight!”
