"apparently" poems
I want to kiss you all day. I want to start at dawn. I want our mouths to dry out by breakfast. I want our jaws to start cramping by noon. I want us to question our decision to kiss all day by hour five. I want to have *** really quickly then seriously stop all this kissing ******** because you need your personal space, apparently.

Kiss You
If I wasn't gay would people care? Would they actually let me breath the same air? Could I actually go to school, without people being so cruel? Could I live in a world with no hate? Maybe people would love me if I was straight. It's not as easy as people think. I can't just go to a shrink. I didn't choose to be this way. You really think I'd want to be gay? I don't want attention, I don't want fame. This isn't some sort of game. I am who I am and thats okay. Most people don't see it that way. I only wish I could be the same. To have a wedding and it not be shamed. I want to have kids and not be judged. I don't want my reputation smudged. But apparently I'm different now. Sick in the head somehow. Therapy and shock treatment for something that can't be fixed. How did I get put into this mix? Toxic and tragic, that's my life. It's like I was stabbed in the back with a knife. I'm gay, what's wrong with that? I get treated like some rat. Using your holy books and your religion. To fight against something that makes no difference. I want to be a human not a punching bag. Always getting called a *** Let that word have power and it gets to you. But that words as good as whatever is stuck to the bottom of my shoe. I love being this way. I don't care what you say.

Someone who means a great deal to me once said that you can’t find love. You can’t go searching for it, it finds you. It finds you out of nowhere and once it’s there you can’t ignore it. I thought that was a cute way of putting things and continued on with life, waiting for love to find me. But then I got impatient and tried to find it on my own, but it never happened. I was terrified of relationships for some unknown reason or past trauma, and I never found it. Until it found me. It steamrolled me completely out of nowhere and I didn’t see it coming. It was the worst and best thing that ever happened to me because it was beautiful to feel so deeply for someone and not feel any fear to let myself fall. For my best friend, someone I could spend hours talking to. Only you didn’t feel it too. Apparently you can ignore it, or maybe fate is sick and twisted and Cupid only hit me. So I love you. I love you and I can’t stop and it absolutely ***** because you don’t feel the same way for me. I know even if you did we’d never work out and yet if you sat me down and tried to convince me of all the reasons we would always be wrong for each other and never right, I wouldn’t be able to stop. Trust me, I wish I could. I wish I hated you instead, or just didn’t care at all. But I can’t stop. You could break my heart ten times over and I wouldn’t be able to stop. I don’t understand why but it’s just a fact. I’ll always wonder why I’m not good enough or if maybe you’ll ever change your mind. Maybe one day I’ll stop, finally get over it, but for now I’m stuck here never being able to get over you. I can’t move on, I can’t stop hurting, I can’t stop loving you. I don’t know that I’ll ever feel this way about someone again, or if I manage to get over you if I even want to, because I don’t ever want to be crushed like this again. Because I love you. And you don’t love me.

They didn't know what Diversity was... The kids, that is. Since the kids didn't know it, the teacher coined it as "“black” visibility". She wasn't sure if she could make that call so she nodded her head, looking for approval. The interviewer asked in what direction did the teacher see Diversity As if Diversity was a one-way street. Let me just refresh your memory... "“black” visibility" As if decades of progress in the schools were undone, The kids voted on Performances and Projects for “black” History Month. How shocking!... Kids of every shape, size, ability and race studying a time in history... Sounds racist to me. They wanted a Gospel Choir that is clearly only for “black” students Because I'm the student Director for the Fordham University's Rhythm of Praise Gospel Chior for the fourth year running... Maybe I'm missing something... MAYBE I'm “black”... Maybe if I close my eyes really tight... Nope, I'm still “white”. Olive brown perhaps? Only in the summer. Anyway, I digress like Sophia Patrilo from the Goldren Girls Who was Italian by the way. Just advertising for Diversity. Let's debate about "Music Debates" for a moment. Maybe you call it Debates because Hip Hop is debatable, and by the way only for “black” students. When I could argue for days upon days About how Reggaeton didn't come from Salsa but I know **** well that Salsa came first. The kids wanted to Stomp the Yard and battle it out. I do believe rap battles take place around the world And one of the best rappers I know is an English teacher in Harlem Whose hair is redder than a leprechaun. Talent Shows that showcase every student's ability Whether it be singing, dancing, performing their poetry, But still apparently that's not Diversity. Neither is an International Day Where International ways are celebrated. And finally, a Diversity Day, That clearly means diversity is separated. "They wanted a lot of things" Yeah. They asked for a whole lot... of everything BUT diversity. That's right, because they don't know what it means The Kids, that is... Then tell me please: Define Diversity. Is it seeing a “black” horse with “white” stripes Or a “white” horse with “black” stripes? Why is it between “black” and “white”? Why not between “white”, “black” brown, yellow, orange, brick red... Let's get it out of our head That teachers can't learn anything from their students, Because it sounds to me, Like they had a pretty good start to the meaning of Diversity. And if it turns out they didn't, That's what teachers are there for: Make a **** lesson about it.

Why do they feel above reproach when it comes to the unsavory sides of society? Why do they turn a blind eye to the ******* Draft if they ***** up such a storm about equality? Why is it not a federal offense punishable by a $250,000 fine as well as up to 5 years in prison for a female to not sign their life away to the military from when they turn 18 until at least 25? How is that 'gender equality'? Huh? They, too, are cherry-picking. -

1995 saw the start of Generation Z, the ‘iKids’ with a knack for this new-fangled technology, Millennial 2.0, caught in the limbo of the World Wide Web development and Rose Gold iPhones. They say we’re adaptable, but apparently we can’t make our own decisions about anything. They say that we don’t care about anything except for our tiny little screens, but they forget who put them in our hands, and they forget who they run to for help when they forget how to troubleshoot. They forget what kind of technology we need to keep sustaining life in the Information Age, Caught in a crossfire because Yeah, we’re 90s kids—but the 90s never really actually ended until 2006, the only difference between two decades being how much neon versus how much chrome, and just how expensive accidentally opening the internet app on your mom’s blackberry phone was. We’re nostalgic for all the things we can’t quite remember, and half these high schoolers weren’t actually born until 2000 or 2001. Most of us aren’t old enough to even remember 9/11, nothing outside of the news clips that our teachers show us in history class every single September. I was born in the same year as the Columbine shootings. The United States has not been at peace for a year of my life. We are always fighting— fighting for everything. Human equality, posing arguments about micro aggressions and refugees, seeing the inhumanity in the past that we’re living. None of us are older than 21, under such hard scrutiny while Baby Boomers Wave 2 still run our country. We inherited the Millenial’s exhaustion, the generation before us spending our childhood fighting for all the things that we have never really believed in. Fairytales. Generation Z. The ‘iKids’ who are going to one day be making leaps and bounds with technology, the generation to nurse this dying planet back to health, Millennials 2.0 who know how to learn from our forerunners’ mistakes, who know how to adapt from Sidekicks to iPhone 6S Plus in less than a decade. We’re the kids who have realized that fun is found in safe spaces rather than invading each other’s personal spaces. They say we’re too sensitive, but at the same time they claim that we’re desensitized. And I thought we were the generation that couldn't make decisions.

Before you criticize me too soon, I think you should spare some seconds and answer a simple question to yourself... If Shahjahan loved Mumtaz Mahal so much, why he had a harem of wives to use at his own pleasure? While I agree that the Taj Mahal is arguably the most extraordinarily beautiful monument in the world, I don't agree upon the fact that it was built as a tomb of love. It is just a symbol of madness if you asked me. An emperor's insecure feeling to get his name registered in the history books. While it may be one of the most beautiful architectural monument, it was built by over 20,000 architects, craftsmen, masons and engineers who took over 16 years to build the magnificent building. He got this apparently high & prestigious monument of love built but everything that the Emperor did was not pleasant at all. ° The lavishly living Mughal Emperor spent all his - his subjects' money into building this monument of love instead of keeping his subjects well-fed. ° Mumtaz Mahal might have been the luckiest woman to have died and got such a marvelous building built as her mausoleum but she died giving birth to her & Shahjahan's 17th offspring and then Shahjahan who had uncountable other wives was inspired by her demise apparently to undertake what is termed as the biggest project in history build the costliest monument proclaiming his rule. ° The arrogant - falsely proud lover - Mughal emperor didn't know that what he thought to be looked at as the greatest symbol of love will be criticized by some poet in his own land nearly 375 years later. The insane Mughal Emperor got all the builders of the Taj Mahal's fingers cut-off of so that there could be no other Taj Mahal. But Aurangzeb, his & Mumtaz Mahal's son overthrew his power when Shahjahan got older and locked him up in a jail at the other end of Yamuna river where the emperor then died a sad old lovelorn bedlamite person in prison. Aurangzeb was the exact opposite of his dad, he showed religious intolerance and his habits drove the empire towards its doom after his death. But let me think this way; when I look at any picture of the Taj Mahal, what I get the first thing in mind is this: Such a CRAZY emperor who got such a beautiful monument of Egotism built!

Because apparently, my ***** tastes like salsa. and my calves are not strong as a result of exercise, it’s because I’m hauling pounds of marijuana across the borders. and I’m automatically dumb, you know your people have been brainwashed when even they start to believe that they’re dumb. that’s what I learned when the Mexican girl next to me in math class leaned over to me and said, “You’re really smart for one of us.” if a white woman has my skin color, it’s beautiful. when my naturally tan skin is pictured, i’m now wearing “too much bronzer.” I’m a fake. I “don’t belong in this country.” Because my ancestors looked up to this country as a place of refuge and stability, but I tend to disagree, I gotta leave now? Take a moment and live in my home. Live in my country. Know how my life works. And then tell me oppression isn’t a thing.

So apparently today is National Compliments Day. I'd like to compliment Maha Salman. She is a genuinely caring soul and has such a loving heart and an understanding personality. Maha, thank you for being such a kind person and listening to me despite my extreme negativity. Thank you for talking me out of starving myself again, and being so compassionate. You mean a lot to me as a fellow poet and person. You are a beautiful friend :) p.s. ur poetry is amaaazing

Look in the mirror. Let us both look. Here is my naked body. Apparently you like it, I have no reason to. Who bound us, me and my body? Why must I die together with it? I have the right to know where the borderline between us is drawn. Where am I, I, I myself. Belly, am I in the belly? In the intestines? In the hollow of the *** In a toe? Apparently in the brain. I do not see it. Take my brain out of my skull. I have the right to see myself. Don’t laugh. That’s macabre, you say. It’s not me who made my body. I wear the used rags of my family, an alien brain, fruit of chance, hair after my grandmother, the nose glued together from a few dead noses. What do I have in common with all that? What do I have in common with you, who like my knee, what is my knee to me? Surely I would have chosen a different model. I will leave both of you here, my knee and you. Don’t make a wry face, I will leave you all my body to play with. And I will go. There is no place for me here, in this blind darkness waiting for corruption. I will run out, I will race away from myself. I will look for myself running like crazy till my last breath. One must hurry before death comes. For by then like a dog ****** by its chain I will have to return into this stridently suffering body. To go through the last most strident ceremony of the body. Defeated by the body, slowly annihilated because of the body I will become kidney failure or the gangrene of the large intestine. And I will expire in shame. And the universe will expire with me, reduced as it is to a kidney failure and the gangrene of the large intestine.

I sit and try and be a lotus after killing the third fly of the evening with a pocket book of recipes and a thirty centimetre ruler stolen from bathroom **** measuring contests to our knees. Young professionals tread these boards and I watch, trying to paint them lotus. I listen and learn like I was told to do then clock watch, mop, cycle home to you; I am still trying to be a lotus even in wet shoes and no socks. With less than five-hundred pounds to my various names, an office-chair-cum-clothes-horse, eight USB charging ports and a future that stretches to Sunday’s last reluctant second, I am sitting, trying to be lotus figuring out the professional path David Attenborough heard in his gentleman’s class: that son of a- - I walked into an army recruitment vault with dreams of being Gulliver, though was asked to leave out the cat flap cathedral door back into war as they’d got their laugh and didn’t applaud. Perhaps I should’ve been better at maths where apparently a career can be predicted on a scatter graph, and the pigeons of today were the pigeons of next year and the months that’ll follow the century after that. I am still trying to figure out the hoo-ha of ************ and ring fingers and collar sizes and the inner circles of hyenas when the winter solstice splits the seasons. There is no reason for this lotus procrastination when what’s there to live for but a crooked world and one bandage left.

My Heart and Mind had a discussion one day, About a man that they both knew quite well. The heated discussion continued for hours, Both with arguments meant to compel. A debate ensued between the two, With each taking a different perspective. The Heart believed the man to be true, And the Mind thought he was deceptive. Heart started the discussion with an obvious point, "He is sweet and gentle like no man before." Mind responded smugly, "That's great in the moment but how does he act after she's walked out the door?" Heart countered, already knowing the point being made. "Sure, he may not be able to write or call; He is busy with constant demands of his time. What he feels in his heart matters most of all." "I disagree," and Mind continued to say, "Actions mean far more than words alone. It is when words and actions are considered together that a man's true feelings are shown." "He has to compartmentalize to get through the day." Heart continued to defend his intentions, When they are together his feelings are real, but her insecurities span many dimensions." "It's funny you would mention compartmentalizing. Apparently your memory isn't as sharp as mine, He was once quoted as saying this was not his strength, proof that his statements don't always align." "You are cynical, suspicious and guarded." Heart was clearly tired of this dispute, "Those traits are clouding your judgement. He is genuine and telling the truth." "I think you are overlooking the obvious but I'll relax and stop doubting his intentions if he makes an effort to send a simple sign." Heart and Mind both wanting to prove their point and have the bragging rights of superiority. Mind sure that the man would disappoint her; Heart confident in his genuine sincerity. Both waited patiently for some type of gesture, Something to demonstrate that he really does care. Heart began to worry and whispered to herself, "Stay calm and trust that it's not just another affair." Patience prevailed and an email arrived, just as Heart had hoped and prayed. Mind, although disappointed by being proved wrong, was relieved and no longer afraid. Trust and calm filled her spirit when thinking of him, but it was both that won in the end. Maybe they were more than temporary lovers and could also be permanent friends.

I wonder if you've noticed, I'm becoming less appealing, Our conversations are getting very... Very, boring... And I wonder if you've noticed, That I'm becoming less appealing. You can tell me, I didn't meant to approach you, It was a decision made in a split second, And it seems like my heart's voice was louder than my brain's then: I'm being honest, My chest was about to explode, My heart was a ticking time bomb And I could only disarm it by giving it a voice, Converting its electric impulses into sound waves. But now, It's been a while since then, And, We're drifting apart... I haven't told you that I nicknamed you zebra because of that cute black and white shirt you had on... Because, I'm scared that would just trigger the slow end of our... Our?! I mean, It will make our friendship awkward. I told my friends I don't like you, But apparently you like me - But, I just have a question, After getting to know me - Ummm... Have I lost my charms, Or are you still googly-eyed over the stupid fifteen year old boy that nearly tripped over his own words as he uttered, "You're very pretty"?

Slowly losing interest?
the earth is curved - sure y’all knew that.   but to get to the Northwest, Interstate 84 ain’t le route plus directe nope curve north to Ontario, wave to Bex as I cross over London and Toronto, also can’t recall which poet from Rochester hails, or did they shuffle off to Buffalo? Crossing Erie, Huron, and Michigan Great Lakes all, brings to mind my mother’s birthplace, Last of the Mohicans, and the three years I did in the Cleveland Penitentiary, where sun was illegal and baseball was a pretend play of cowboys and Indians but by god, it made me the penitent fella I am today Look skyward to Montreal, yes, there he is, the Leo Priest, the baffled king, blessing this poetic meet ‘n greet trip with a smiling unsurprising hallelujah Apparently some US citizens still can traverse O Canada, even if one forgot their passports, and are not PNG’s (Persons Not so GREAT) over Minneapolis shed a tear for Diane, a poet- gone-missing, and wonder if you reader come from St. Cloud, Fargo or Duluth, Bismarck or Aberdeen, surely they still speak poetic English there in a twangy metering methodology  - well, message me asap wow there really is a Saskatoon! the pilot asks us to lean left in our seats to help turn the plane so we go to Portland and not to Vancouver... me thinks he might be a touch Rockie Mountain High, considering we are at 30 thousand something Imperial, as he walks the main cabin with an oxygen mask and a huuuuuge grin see the distant Cascades through a crack in the shuttered windows, must be close to “the coast” (as if, harrumph, there were but one) ah, words in the clouds, ripe for the plucking must be getting close to Oregon, where poets grow on trees, woody words like **** and log-float poems down the Columbia to the sea gonna drink me some poets under the table cause this trip I ain’t no driving and I am already “flying” ‘n scribing and arriving on a high tide and a good wind

one day i was talking to my little sister. she asks me if i was ever depressed. i tell her yes. her eyes widen and her lips are mouthing 'why?' 'babe, i'm transgender.' 'is that it?' so i begin to explain to her the things i feel. i tell her how everyday i can't wait to get home and slice open this body i don't know with a razor from a convenience store. i tell her i don't know how to act like a girl for mom and dad, but apparently i do a **** good job because they don't notice i'm not. i tell her that for fourteen years i've wanted to cut my hair short and never have to wear a skirt to church again. i tell her about the pain and fear of going into a public bathroom. i tell her about the looks the kids at school give me and the shoves from behind about the **** binders and the locker rooms. i tell her that i don't know what they want me to be, and if i can be it. i tell her all i want is to be called 'he' and feel like they mean it. she pauses and gives me a look that says even though she's too young to understand, she does. 'i've always wanted a brother.'

I'm Transgender.
i am a dreamer idealistic, optimistic the one who imagines her life will actually turn out how she wants i am the ideal girl to marry, apparently according to these heteronormative results that are based upon me knowing how to cook and liking to sleep in and wear t-shirts that seems like ******** to me i'm not the ideal girl to marry who would ever want to marry this? who could i ever want to marry? to wake up next the same person for the rest of my existence? to never get a moment to myself? sometimes i look at her and imagine my life working out the way it's supposed to and waking up next to her every morning and dancing together in sweatpants with messy hair and fuzzy breath maybe

Inadequate
I'm 5'7" Medium length brown hair I let my bangs grow to where their half way down my chest (I use them to hide a lot) Age 17 Birthday April 15(yeah I'll have fun with taxes. :P) My toe nails are ALWAYS painted black, and keep changing the color of my finger nails (I bite them too short to care anyway) I'm proud to say I have a wide chest/wide shoulders (I won't say bra size, just cause guys will be able to read this. :/) I jam out to whatever music I'm listening to Don't give a **** what people think of me (just want to be loved truly, cause that's what I have and always will do) I'm over 200lbs (which is mostly muscle from wrestling with my cousins. :) ) I have fun in more physical activities (ps Apparently, most guys don't like a girl that challenges them to an arm wrestling match. The guys didn't take up my challenge :P) I'm different compared to most girls that I've come to know Also, a lot of girls became afraid of me(some girls that hated me for some reason or other threw rocks at my head. I thought they had been throwing paper, I became sheepish at the moment I realized that they WERE rocks and I'm still literally hard headed to this day. I can't feel when anything hits my head :P :/)
