Transgender is more than a word, it is me Righting the wrongs on your body, until you feel like the real you Answering the same generic questions when you come out to new people Not feeling quite right unless you're in that one gender-confirming outfit Saying you are different, but never being heard by those few people Giving people a pass on your name and pronouns because your scared to fix it Ending year-long relationships because they don't accept you for you Never being able to walk around shirtless because you can't afford top surgery Determined to be happy when you look in the mirror one day in the future Excitedly researching surgeons and colleges for your future Randomly hating your body and having to mindlessly focus on something else

Blank I'm a blank canvas In that little pink blanket Sat next to my sisters Held in your arms Cared for by your hands Loved by your touch I'm a blank canvas So why Why do you tell me to be ‘a perfect lady’ Why do you only buy me dresses and skirts Why do you yell at me for wearing ‘boys clothes’ Why I was a blank canvas Now you’ve tried to paint me with pink But I've painted over me with blue.

What is gender? What is a girl? What is a boy? What makes these people different? What is pink? What is blue? What makes these colors different? What is it? Clothes? Style? Hair? Chests? Pants? Skirts? Dresses? Suits? What makes these people different? You say: ‘Your chromosomes’ But what about ‘x’ What about ‘xxy’ What about ‘xyy’ What about ‘xxxy’ What do you say about these? Someones genitalia doesn't make them Someone's chromosomes doesn't make them What makes a person a person Is the person.

Gender
Dysphoria, what does it feel like? They sigh, trying to find a single sentence for years of caged silence. Identity: Female Stuck in the wrong way To me it’s a sense of nothing will ever be right The feeling of being in extreme danger Like you’re about to die Identity: Male All I can say is This isn’t me The feeling is a long and windy explanation of Disassociation There are things about me that I don’t associate with myself And it’s weird and confusing When I become aware of them Identity: **** A drag queen? Trans fluid. Dysphoria... It's a lot like, Anger, Betrayal, An itch Like a really itchy sweater, You can’t take it off And the longer you have to wear it the worse it gets You start to hate yourself because You’re the one that put the sweater on in the first place They say we are ill Broken ****** *** “Butch” It’s not correct When they say it’s their right to say those That’s when I get mad If there is no way to make the mind conform to the body You must make the body conform to the mind If they think it’s their right to tell other people that their identity is wrong, Then they are ill and broken They have no f**king clue And I know, I can’t tell them they’re wrong Without telling them why But I realize Explaining this is futile With closed minded people Bathrooms need to change, Health care needs to change, Identification needs to change People are forced to “pick one” Trans-phobia shouldn’t be tolerated Mental health care shouldn’t be because it’s a “defect” Social pressure, Internalized oppression, Abuse, Shouldn’t Be Tolerated Politicians have got it the wrong way around One in two transgender persons have experienced ****** assault One. In. Two. They say, “We don’t want men undercover spying on our women and children” You think they are in there to spy or **** Name more than two cases in the last 25 years Where a transgender person has sexually abused a woman in the ladies bathroom You can’t But give me five minutes, and I can come up with five to eight names of transgender people That have been assaulted in bathrooms since 2019 started But our Pride cannot be destroyed It’s our strength A feeling of belonging A belief that we can change this We are not alone. We Are Not Alone. YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

You murdered your daughter and you show no remorse Then you hide behind a cross, of course ‘Cause you think your religion is a license to hate And an excuse to discriminate Her short life was done Before it had begun ‘Cause you murdered your daughter But you still call her your son You sent her to monsters dressed in therapist’s clothes ‘Cause her comfort is something you oppose When she told you her secret, you replied, “It’s a phase And you’ll feel like a man one of these days” But of course, she did not Now I won’t let it be forgot That you murdered your daughter Without a second thought And she was beautiful Yes, she was so beautiful But she had no chance with parents like you Though she was beautiful Though she was so beautiful You cut off her wings long before she flew With the guise of a gay man as a small stepping stone She hoped she would not feel so alone But instead, you denied her all her friends at her school How can you be so selfishly cruel? You locked her within walls But her gender’s not your call Yes, you murdered your daughter You drove her to end it all But she was beautiful Yes, Leelah was beautiful And yet, you denied her identity She was so beautiful She was so **** beautiful But you were too hateful to let her be Now, Douglas and Carla, let the world know your names And the sins of which you’re not ashamed You did not love your daughter, don’t you act like you did You probably didn’t see her as your kid Don’t pretend that you’re sad You’re not a mom and dad ‘Cause you murdered your daughter For the son you never had

You Murdered Your Daughter (The Ballad Of Leelah Alcorn)
