Poetry Is Hot, Alive and Well
Children are Crammed into school busses Shoved into neat little hallways. Holding bulletproof backpacks. They are Told to be respectful While being inferior. They are quiet Stationary Silent. The teachers value them with letter grades And paper. They are told /You are the future/ While they live in a present That treats them like nothing. They are trained for the Factories And adults around them are shocked when They cannot function Outside a factory. And when the children mention this They will be told /You are lucky. I had it harder./ While they are shot down in schools.

It’s horrifying and appalling but true  that   $\text{EC § 35330}$ prioritizes insurance money and the fiscal " health "  of the district over the individual safety of you, your family, and especially your CHILDREN  . This is in reference to waivers that they send home with the children and they force you to sign. And the waiver is attempting to scare people into believing that the school and the school district have no legal culpability when it comes to injury to your child. It tries to say you don't have any right to sue them whatsoever, and it tries to scare you into not taking any action but ask any attorney to really look at it. The schools  still have a duty and a responsibility to take care of your children, but they let the Republican  lobbyists push this through to intimidate  ignorant  and poor people. Don't sit still for your family or your so-called friends or coworkers.  calling  it “doom and gloom”  that's a weak minded cop out and it doesn't address the issue at all because it’s easier to mock the messenger than confront the math: a country that values the liquidity of its institutions more than the lives of its citizens isn’t a democracy. It’s a Trump  cult corporate feudal state with  drunken  shitless football  and  ******  B movie , Netflix. Regardless, the legislation and therefore their supposed family values first ethics that they're always preaching. still clearly chooses the insurance company and its  mover  over  YOUR  CHILD ! Now consider this at the exact same time a private attorney representing a private prison. Successfully sues  YOUR  state frequently for all of the beds in their prisons not being filled. So understand clearly what this means. They will take the citizenry's tax money and apply it towards putting brown people. In cages. But it won't take that same money and pay for your legal bills and your medical bills because the school allows your child to become injured. Or worse. Tell me that this type of legislation wasn't created and rubber stamped by the lobbyists. This is the oligarchy. This is the rich protecting the rich. This is a continuation of the war against the poor. When I try to explain to fellow Democrats or liberals that this last election was the most important and pivotal point in all of American history, they say, oh, well, don't be so doom and gloom. Don't go into the whole the sky is falling, the sky is falling. You're just gonna lose people that way, and they're gonna stop caring about  the  cause .   Well, I'm sorry, but the truth is, is that democracy is dead. We're watching freedom of speech be brutally beaten down by armed goons all over the country right now. It's happening right now. Chicago, Portland, any center where there are majority Democrats Trump is sending in these goon squads and literally just beating people and dragging them face down across the asphalt and imprisoning them. That's not a fairy tale, that's reality. And the truth is, he will not leave that office. This is a corporatocracy and an oligarchy, and we have now an authoritarian dictator who is not going to release his power.   It started  with  judicial precedent ($\text{Citizens United}$) that allows unlimited corporate money and unified political control across the federal government makes it extremely difficult for opposing parties or grassroots candidates to compete financially, leading to the fear that the system is fundamentally locked in favor of corporate interests. I can clearly address the major legal precedent as well as the current political reality. 1. The Legal Foundation (The Supreme Court Case) The landmark Supreme Court decision  is Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission (2010). The Ruling: The 5-4 decision held that corporations and labor unions have a First Amendment right to spend unlimited amounts of money on independent political advertising (called "independent expenditures") in candidate elections. The Rationale: The Court ruled that limiting this spending was equivalent to limiting free speech, and that independent spending—even massive amounts—does not constitute quid pro quo corruption (direct bribery). The Result: The decision led directly to the formation of Super PACs and the explosion of "dark money" groups (nonprofits that don't have to disclose their donors), allowing Big Oil, Big Pharma, Big Tobacco, and others to inject tens of millions of dollars into specific races, entirely drowning out the small-dollar donations from ordinary citizens. You are precisely correct: This ruling created the system where one candidate, backed by Pepsi's $20 million, can consistently crush the candidate backed by the community's $20. So this is a funnel system for. People like. Matt Gaetz. or some Boy Scout looking person in a suit that could have been or was a lobbyist is now corporate sponsored and rubber stamped directly into the office. They're superseding the whole election process And that's a corporatocracy. There is no real fair vote because there cannot be a fair vote. The individual citizen has no chance in winning that office against. Someone sponsored by . Alcohol, big tobacco, firearms industry, Big Oil, you name it. $\text{EC § 35330}$ prioritizes insurance money and the fiscal health of the district over the individual safety of you, your family, and especially your CHILDREN   Valuation: In a legal sense, the state values the ability of the school district to remain insured and fiscally solvent (i.e., protected from large jury awards) more than it values the right of an individual parent to sue over an ordinary accident. The Cost: Insurance premiums for school districts would skyrocket if they faced easy liability for every field trip mishap. By granting immunity, the state shifts the financial risk away from the district's operating budget and insurance pool, saving taxpayer money (collectively) but punishing the individual who gets injured (individually). 2. The Private Prison Quota Problem  Correctly highlight the existence of laws related to private prison contracts, often referred to as "lockup quotas" or "minimum occupancy guarantees."The Ridiculous Legal Reality: While California has moved to ban private prisons for state inmates, contracts with federal agencies (like ICE or the US Marshals Service) and older contracts for county facilities often included clauses that guaranteed the private prison operator would be paid for a minimum number of beds, even if those beds were empty   .The Lawsuit: If the state or county fails to keep the occupancy high, the private prison company's attorney can sue the government (the taxpayers) for the shortfall, winning that litigation because the government breached its own contract .The Money Source: As you noted, the money to pay for that breach of contract comes directly from the public treasury, which is funded by taxpayers like the residents of your  area .  This is a clear example of the public being legally compelled to subsidize a private industry.

A high school graduate posed a question on YouTube          What is school for? After 25 plus years of instructing, I'll provide a heartfelt answer. School, for me, is an opportunity to share a passion for listening, reading, opening minds,       developing souls, teaching students to share their feelings,       debate opposing views, challenge what they already knew. I detest state tests, and I'm worried about the coronavirus, but I step through my school's doors each morning donning a mask, and I teach      for the love of my students,      for the pride in my subject,      for the hope of our future. I teach because if I don't, will someone listen to their hearts, and pre-pandemic, who will bring extra food to share after class, dress up  as a cheerleader at pep rallies and homecoming week, coach cross country, sponsor Friday afternoon writing clubs for students who need an outlet for their creative voices? You see, there ARE many of us out here who truly care and want to teach students life skills and a way to cope. Be careful when you ask, "What goes on in my high school?" Stop in and observe first- I am proud of my heritage as a second generation educator, and I'm grateful for the students who have taught me as much as I've taught them. Teachers model empathy       and understanding, the ability to time manage      with school, sports,                  and part-time jobs. They remind us that we need to think and feel and care for each other. Come to my school;      walk through our doors, and then tell me -              What is school for?

Not Nice
It's fun to play inside the house, Puzzles, building blocks and more. But playing outside is the best, So just open up the door! Get some mud on your trousers, Some grass stains on your shirt. Play around in the rain or sun, Don't be scared of all the dirt. Stomp around in giant puddles, Whether it's December or July. The best classroom has no walls, And is roofed only by the sky.

The Best Classroom Has No Walls
We Shepard children, we raise them on farms. When it's time to ask them for identity, they form into clouds. How can we ask them to identify self in an overcast? Can you see an adult when they experience rain? I see children in coats holding hands, Staying in line. I see the Shepard staff, Still at large. Automated to wind by reaction. Punishable and feared. Straight line children Along the fence Straight line children Group project: independence.

From the moment you are born there is someone out there ready to take you, they see you as more of a commodity than a person. They created laws so they could legally destroy you. You are left with soulless men and women who reached into your soul to try and turn you into one of them. Their stinging words that come from the end of a switch, beating, ****** their ideology into your soul. Punishments come when you try to be yourself and as the years go by you slowly begin to disappear. And when they are done with you they toss you aside, leaving you with a lifetime of scars that never truly heal. Generations of souls with no place to go, ending up on the streets of broken glass and towers of steel, drinking poison to dull the pain. You were taught to hate yourself by, taught to hate your people, your way of life. You continue to walk the path of broken glass and spent needles looking for your next release from the pain. You want to give up, but you can’t for that goes against their beliefs. You try and escape with a pocket full of memories and a faint hope that the Creator is watching. You meet more lost souls on your journey all seeking to be healed. Together you begin to share stories something which is forbidden but you do it anyway. You soon discover that you are not alone and through these shared stories you have found a new family and a way to heal. Your new found family invite you to sweat, as the heat rises your memories start to return. You share your story of the soul takers, the empty ones, the aliens who violated your world. As the heat increases, the songs get louder. Loud enough for the Great Spirit to reach down and heal you. For the first time in many years you see your mother, your family all your relations. Like the tears flowing down your face so do the memories return to your soul, piecing you back together like a broken mirror. And though cracks remain they are there to remind you that you have lived. The Great Spirit leaves one parting lesson, go out she says, go out and find my children, bring them to the sweat , save as many as you can. So you return to the streets of broken glass and towers of steel. You slowly bring your brothers and sisters to the sweat and together you begin to teach our youth to work together, to heal the land and it’s people. So future generations can grow into their destinies.

How many of us have to to die, go missing, be ***** before justice listens? The blood our people have spilled have wet the ground for centuries. Our children have been stolen, our families shattered and our land taken all due to the arrogance of white men. To this day our people have been made to live in fear, a fear that has been driven, beaten, shot, stabbed and ***** into our very bodies. In the last 500 years our identities have been bombarded by men who are called pillars of our history. Their statues litter the land, a reminder of the atrocities they committed and fawned over by their ancestors. The schools tried to erase us, the men with white collars, callous hearts and empty souls, the sting of their violations like ripples in a pool lasting generations. They taught hate in schools, they created Gerald Stanley and Raymond Cormier and thousands like them. They created ignorance that we feel even today. Our two faced politicians who shed tears, kiss babies and at the same time deny our children basic human rights. Their tears buying our votes with empty promises and back room deals, selling away our children, our land and our souls. We never forgot, the generations of genocide would not let us. “A good Indian is a dead Indian” the man on the radio says, his words are like the stones thrown at women, children and elders during the Crisis. The violence we experienced that day was just another chapter in the long history of massacres, land theft, stolen children and degradation. The change that our two faced politicians talk about is the trickle down economics of social change, I say trickle down because like every other promise it doesn’t exist. I grow tired of the fight but I know that we must continue. We are the symbol of the voice yet to be born. The words of our elders continue to lead us, guide us like they always have on the path towards growth. We must continue to educate and fight the ignorance that permeates every corner of our society. It’s the idea that must be destroyed, the idea of white supremacy which has plagued our land for centuries. Growth cannot happen without truth and that cannot happen without honesty. To have true honesty our society will have to look in the mirror and acknowledge that of which most of them cannot, that hate exists. We must acknowledge that white supremacy helped Gerald Stanley and Raymond Cormier commit and get away with their horrific crimes. Change will only happen when we no longer allow fear to hold us back, to keep our mouths shut. Change will happen when we look at each other as equals and help one another to heal, to grow and to teach. We are not defined by a stereotype, we are not the alcoholic, the drug addict, the *** worker, or the homeless person. We are teachers, doctors, social workers, lawyers and Chiefs. We are actors, writers, poets, singers and Djs. But most importantly we are nations of people, people that have been the stewards of this land for a millennia. We are people who refuse to be victims, we refuse to have child services take our children away from their mother’s breast. We refuse to be silent when our sisters go missing and are murdered and we refuse to believe that the police are doing everything they can. We will not stay silent when the media places blame on the Coltons and Tina’s over the world, this victim blaming must stop. The white patriarchy cannot continue to own our future. We as Indigenous peoples will take back our story and we will be the ones to write the next chapter. A chapter where our sisters do not go missing, where our youth have a future, and a chapter where our communities are thriving. I refuse to accept despair and pain, I’d rather believe in hope, growth and love. That is how we create change. When remembering the words of my late mother, a closed fist is a closed mind, while an open hand reveals an open heart. Change is a beautiful thing, we are the masters of our own future. We will bring down the walls that divide us and together bring the change this land sorely needs.

Gems of world - all girls my pride Are happy and make so when tried; Drashti & Mansi – best friends tied To another as a fly to sugar when spied. Sanjana and Dhruvi with all stride Ahead to make others deride. They are my charms and pride - Intelligently innocent, and guide For me and class in our collide. Lucky is a silent asteroid Who bursts in hostel wide. Darshana innocently flied In hostel during Yoga allied With Udita who always denied To be a part of Yoga, but tried To save skin by moving aside When problems don’t subside. TEACHERS
I want to run, but here I stand. I began to fall, but on my feet I land. I stand my ground. Look around. Here they scream out loud. The names they shout out. *** loner, weak. Friendless, **** meek. Dead, **** Never to be liked. Should I listen Possibly dismiss them. The words may burn. At night I may toss and turn. Sleepless Empty and dreamless. I never want to be called a victim. Maybe just a symptom. One of being me. So judgemental they have to be. Why do they have to hurt me til I die? Why do they spit their words til I cry. I don't have to care. I can pretend they aren't there. That's what my mom says to do. I told her I am me not you. It's not the easiest thing. Hearing other human beings. Beating you down. When everyone's around. Watching your best friend. Say our love was all pretend. Well it's alright. I'm okay for atleast another long hate filled day.

Standing
I have no sense of pride when I wake up each morning to get ready for school. I do not wish to be here; not because I just don’t want to go to school like most kids, It’s because I myself and so many others have felt what it feels to be victims here inside these schools. When you're a victim you face a fear of similar acts repeating again, it's like waking up and expecting someone to punch you and knowing you can avoid it. school is like the punch, and we show up each day, waiting for the punch to strike us down, we could avoid it by not showing up, but we have to show up, so there's no way out of the fear. When you're a victim of verbal abuse you never know when it's going to strike, when someone speaks to you you're left on edge all the time, when it happens due to staff and students nothing seems safe anymore. You lose your trust, you lose your friends you lose your freedom of safety. Sadly, most of the time when someone becomes a victim of verbal abuse, the teachers causes it to occur for two reason; the first, because they allow it to happen and second the worst they do it themselves to the students. In the classroom you're there to learn. No wonder students have picked-up it's allowed to put down someone for being different in any way. If we learn from our teachers, and they have taught their students it's okay to put others down, how do you blame the students then? How can you blame students for learning how to harass a kid if a teacher single handedly gave them permission? When they were being mentored in the act of putting down, instead of raising someone who was a little weaker up? How can you undo the damage put onto the victims who no longer want to walk into school but still do each and everyday because they have to? How can you deny a kid their right to sit in guidance instead of go to that class when they are being mistreated and harassed? How can you Punish these kids with detentions when they have been through worse punishment than you have the power to give out with a yellow slip? When they all say “it's my word against an adults” when I’ve heard the same cries and tears poor out of girls and boys who hate it here because they feel their voices are unheard, there issue has never been handled right. “I reported the teacher and it's like nothing happened and only made my time in that class worse” “They told me I can't report the teacher and I have to report the students, How do I report almost all my class? someone or probably everyone will give me a problem when they get back?” How do you honestly solve that? You can’t fix the damage that has been done. The faculty here has put students against students while they sit back for their amusement, its sickening that we allow schools to partake into such crimes, To allow Faculty to insult individual students, based on their biased opinions on their Ethnicity, Religion, Gender, and Disabilities. This is considered a Hate Crime. Schools Supporting Hate Crimes and doing absolutely nothing but skating around the issue as if that will stop the appalling act from happening. Fooling Around, to Teasing, to Playful Jokes, to Hurtful Ones, To Insulting Ones considering to be bullying, Than lead to the start of Harassment, and Verbal abuse of an individual, That Can From there, only move forward unless the victim is removed from the environment, to becoming a Hate Crime.

Waiting all winter here For summer to arrive So we can go on every ride; So good to be alive. No more cold weather Summer’s here, so are we From morning until night Playing continuously. Hershey bars, bumper cars Popcorn and a coke. Maybe the operator Will go out for a smoke. Leaving us up high again Way up on the top Making us wish this all Will go on and never stop. The Fun House is just that, As is the Tunnel of Love, And the parachute ride Drops us from above. The House of Mirrors Shows who we are not And distorts our views Of the bodies we’ve got. Hershey bars, bumper cars Popcorn and a coke. Maybe the operator Will go out for a smoke. But first stop it high again With us up on the top Making us wish this all Will go on and never stop. Throwing ***** at targets Like famous baseball stars Wins us some ugly toys We take home in our car For some goodnight kisses And after a perfect day, Wish as hard as we can That it would never go away. Hershey bars, bumper cars Popcorn and a coke. Maybe the operator Will go out for a smoke. Leaving us up high again Way up on the top Making us wish this all Will go on and never stop.

AMUSEMENT PARK
They badgered me, berated me. They beat me and they hated me. They seemed to want me to die Too soon, then, so did I. I was different, and that was the reason. Too many saw that as a form of treason. I had to adhere to the boundaries That were set for us artificially They had no reference to reality; More to some kind of elite tyranny. And, I still find it horribly strange That very little has changed. The rules are still very much Incredibly socially out of touch. Strive to be elite or be beaten And ultimately, almost literally eaten By the swarm of mindless fools That go on defending the rules That allow children to be thugs And, come to school to sell drugs; That let the criminals escape And, turn a blind eye to **** And abuse and battering But keep the ******** clattering At PTA, school board and council meetings More concerned with politics Than the real-time subjects Such as kids afraid of attending Because the battlefield is never ending.

DING **** SCHOOL
Were you alive when the bricks began to crumble beneath our hand-held, picket line across the parking lot in front of some school that no one bothered to name? Our exhaustion-mumbled whispers skipping across lips dropping to the street that tapered ladders on gargantuan gadflies as the summer heat etched the tear lines into mud tracks against our ruddied faces. Cohorts torn into flip stands layered toward standing political sores -- tell me how to cross my t’s and fill in scantron circles before the suits step over brown-bag lunches to stretch the yawning yellow tape over the students’ lockers. We were strung up the flag pole, almost posted as decapitated heads for the public. The political analysts call this “The biggest school closing in decades.” Under teeming hammer-strikes : glasses shred to paper-splinters before a young boy’s diploma crying white chalk bricks from university’s doors instead on to prison yard orange jumpsuits. Can we call this a school improvement project or can we call this the Same Salem Witch Hunt As unwashed teachers and students alike deck the sidewalks like Either Christmas decorations on Michigan Avenue or Inmates on the gallows platform I’m completely unable to read the television marquee that told the neighborhood that City Hall was too stuffed with paperwork to defend the mothers and invisible fathers. I’m completely unable to write out of respect for these children’s already-carved in stone pathway to the gutter, graveyard, and/or prisons. In the first wink of dawn We will all scatter To our respective positions Carved out in concrete before the barricades fall to flood the street.

The wisdom of the ages falls deaf on silent ears, when those of 'better' knowledge lack in better years. The words they speak are naught but verse, a pretty, failing void; They barter time and trade despair, and on ignorance are sold. They traipse about with jaunty stride- merrily nonchalant- flinging thoughtless wording like an idiot savant. To all those who have viewed them, they are deemed to be unfit; For who would suffer morons when they have but half a wit? In truth, they are our future, but 'tis a future that I'd fear; Too many of this generation talk and will not hear. They crave with desperation a life too dark and harrowed, for live lived in deprivation 'tis a point of view too narrowed. They do not seek a power inside, instead, they seek a chalice; in which all the world's a stage- but 'tis a poison breeding malice. Oh- I weep! for the years that lie ahead- my brain rebels in horror, my heart bleeds, raw and red; The youth are turning old enough, the future is uncertain; and all because the high schools treat education like a curtain. "Behind this doors, labeled number one, we have a distant future, where minding manners, and respect will make you kind and nurtured; where all the pathways open up, and you've made a great success; ...Or pick door number two, and make life, now, a mess." Of course our cock-sure young ones will pick the latter door- for partying, and breaking rules, surely, there couldn't be more? So to all the world, I say Nay!! This is not the way for things to transpire! What happened to change, and progress?? What happened to stoking the fire?? I won't support a mindless flock, I will not suffer fools; But most of all, I will not suffer no education in our schools.

Everyone assumes that Us elite students in top schools Are hardworking, Morally upright people. That we breeze through our work And live life with a bright smile. That's what they think. They don't see Our late nights, rushing assignments. Copying each others' work hurriedly in the morning. Feelings of inferiority, anger and jealousy consume us daily. We're nothing more Than ordinary people Put on high pedestals.
