Quicksand rubs against my ankles,
An invisible shackle,
That doesn't seem to bother,
Anyone else.
I only stopped for a second,
To catch my breath,
To pry deaths hand off my nape,
But before I realized,
I had sunk to my thighs.
My peers continue walking,
They don't even look back.
Not a single glance as I cry for help.
Every birthday,
Every deadline,
Every opportunity,
And I sink deeper,

I've accepted,
That I waited too long,
To be friends with my peers,
Before we move on with our lives.
A lack of time.
I've accepted,
That there are things I cannot change,
Mistakes that I've made,
People I shouldn't have tried to save.
A goldfish may think that its aquarium is the whole world,
Until you introduce it to the vastness of the ocean.
Perhaps, a new start's what I need.
These people are outside my reach.
A fresh slate, a clean plate,
A new chance for a lasting friend.
Will I have learned from my mistakes?
I've accepted,
That I'm not cool in any regard.
Introverted to a fault.
I've accepted these parts of me,
Won't change them for just anybody.
Finding out who I am,
The writer, the poet, the feeler, the nerd,
The desperate thinker who wants to be heard.
I've accepted,
I'll make more mistakes along the way.

Loud discourse from the back of the room,
I swore I heard them say my name.
Suddenly, behind me, someone needs help with their Trigonometry,
I'm still stuck on number three.
But I'm the one they turn to,
If I'm askew, who will help them?
They say my name again,
Overstimulation takes effect,
I can't seem to do basic addition,
Let alone multiply fractions.
I beg for a moment to compose myself,
But time is ticking away, and there's no one else.
I swallow, wipe the sweat from my brow,
Stand tall, and walk over to the one who requested me,
Each step, fueled by anxiety.
Better not make a mistake,
Can't seem to explain,
My reasoning,
Oh...I was wrong anyway...

I find it funny how feral people can be,
How basic decency,
Falls to the wayside in exchange for stupidity.
Even the strongest mind,
Who knows what’s right,
Would probably throw their morals aside,
When surrounded by peers.
A pack of rabid dogs,
Prancing around the neighborhood,
Searching for trouble,
And popping bubbles.
Despite their perceived togetherness,
They’d turn on each other, given multiple chances.
They’d eat each other alive,
And no one would be any the wiser.
Morality and decency disappeared momentarily,
In exchange for temporary and fleeting belonging.
Yet, as the dogs’ numbers dwindle,
They search for excess strays,
To spiel their mantra,
And recruit another to replenish their numbers.
When that same pack of rabid dogs,
Finish their innocent recruitment disguise,
Why not find,
Somewhere to vandalize?
They rush into the public bathroom,
Throw around the toilet paper,
Clog the stalls and draw on the mirror.
Anarchy, in exchange for belonging,
Where did common sense go?
They leave the bathroom in disarray,
Causing the custodian's heart to sink low.
Throw a rock through a window,
Key a car and pop its tires,
Beat up a group of decent people,
And when they beg for help, call them all liars.
We like to claim we’re so advanced,
With our brains and intelligence,
But if we, so freely, throw away the difference,
Are we better or worse than the rest of existence?
Throwing away morals for petty gain,
At the expense of another’s pain.
When our common sense is gone,
We’re no better than rabid dogs.

I know a girl named Daisy,
She wears a smile on the daily.
Even when the world is feeling hazy,
She sprouts up like a daisy.
I don’t know how she smiles,
And hides all her pain.
I don’t know how she talks,
Like everything’s okay.
I wish I knew her secret,
About feeling bliss,
Despite all the melancholy,
And the darkness.
But nobody knows,
What it’s like at home.
When she’s all alone,
Does she cry into her pillow?
She wakes up the next day,
Puts a smile on her face,
How does she deal with the pain?
She brings joy to every room,
Things feel less like gloom and doom.
Even when morale feels low,
She makes me feel less alone.
If she can smile despite,
The things that occurred in her life,
Then surely I,
Could be a daisy too.

Sometimes it feels like I’m the only one who’s sane,
And maybe stating this is all in vain.
I look around at my peers, and I swear we aren’t the same.
Completely different faces and completely different names.
It’s not a profound declaration,
Or a shoddy improvisation,
And no amount of medication,
Could treat this impersonation.
Too much noise leads to vice.
That’s not even complicated advice.
If you leave people to their own devices,
You’ll find,
That’d we’d be better off leaving them all behind.
When they’re taken away,
You’re left with the glitchiness that remains,
Spouting the funniest thing,
That they heard in every sentence they say.
Perhaps I’m just an alien,
In an atmosphere I don’t belong.
A tree receiving acid rain,
A singer without a song.
I start questioning.
Does anybody think?
Or do they say whatever thoughts enter their brain?
Or if they do,
How many filters do they put their words through?
Are there harsh words I haven’t heard,
Because someone thought it’d be absurd?
Sometimes, it seems as if I’m the only one who’s sane,
But I know my thoughts, sometimes, can be rather deranged.
From fruitless worrying to self-deprecation without blame,
Perhaps, all of us are a tad insane.

Would it be so hard,
To keep those thoughts within?
Instead of putting another down,
With foolish whims.

When you’re broken in your own way?
Stay in your bubble,
