Orion, Perseus and even Hercules The man of the sky the hunters Of the stars T H O U G H They would look for monsters and woman and even seven sisters To see what else was around in the night sky though I started To see the men of the stars, the hunters of the stars start to move The move across the sky chasing the seven sisters, Callisto and the Little bear Though they should have followed the monsters and goregones Into the dark caves They soon will follow them monsters into the sky to protect us all Hunting them down in the sky in hopes of soon returning Though did the gods ever tell them that they will never Return at all But the still roam across the sky every night to find the villains That they so want to defeat But now the villains are rich and powerful, and human on this very planet they came from Will the return to fight these tyrants and dictators of now and soon.

Jeff, my òyìnbó friend approached me and spoke so fervently about their childhood myths. About their Santa Claus, their Tooth Fairy, their Easter Bunny, and the different ghosts during halloweens. And then he asked me if we too had these. I looked at him and just laughed. Santa Claus? Did he mean Bòdá Sholá in the next street who plays Father Christmas? And what did he mean by Easter Bunny? Perhaps he meant the òkété in my tummy that I had last night as a meal. Also, Tooth Fairy? Was it because he saw that kid yesterday throwing his loose tooth with some pebbles on the roof that he thought we had one too? Moreover, what different ghosts during halloweens? Maybe he meant the òjùjú kalabas that our elders scare us with.

Crawl into bed Sleep like you're dead But really Your just deep In your head. A dream is a Realm Where all consciousness goes to die And every moment, Every kiss, Every fairytale's myth Is a Lie.

Realm of Fiction
i feel like the weight of my world is on my shoulders, a self-inflicted Atlas curse. my actions are coming back to knock me down and crush my resolve. i'm so close. so close to getting everything fixed. and i push the boulder up the hill as Sisyphus did. but every time i near the zenith, i make one small misstep, and everything slips from my hands, rolling me flat again. mere assignments feel like labours of Hercules, impossible trials, with the intent of divine punishment. if i slay the Hydra, will i pass english class?

catching a break feels like a myth
Myths are real, they are stronger than facts, tradition -- creating stories.

[ Myths are real, they are ]
In tales of old, on Mount Olympus high, Where gods and goddesses roamed the sky, Aphrodite, fair and beauty's muse, But whispers tell of a love confused. In affairs of hearts, her charms renowned, Yet rumors spread, a deceit profound. Her love, a tapestry woven with desire, Yet secrets whispered, fueled the fire. A cheater in the game of divine affection, Her heart's allegiance sparked introspection. For Cupid's arrows, not always true, In love's labyrinth, confusion grew. To Ares, god of war, she turned her gaze, A clandestine affair, a dangerous craze. In the shadows of Mount Olympus, they conspired, Love's flame illicit, yet never tired. The gods above, in their celestial court, Witnessed Aphrodite's love distort. For in her quest for passion's sweet embrace, She left behind a trail of love's disgrace. But was she a cheater or victim of fate? In the realm of gods, emotions intricate. Aphrodite, tangled in love's intricate dance, A celestial romance, a fateful circumstance. So, in the pantheon's tales of divine deceit, Aphrodite's story, in whispers, we repeat. A goddess of love, entangled in desire, A cheater or not, the myths conspire.

Olympus (Haiku)
What's the point of the stars if they only fly to mock us To tell of a world beyond that thick blanket of night A moon victory above them all tells of coliseums of the cosmos A giant in a game we were never asked to play The sun burns itself to nothing And we catch the ashes, plant fields with its offcuts Never tasting banquet, never knowing super nova Alone in the dirt beneath life Currents blow overhead, pushing ice and rock As balloons let adrift, finding freedom in emptiness While our feet only know tracks and fields, grass and mud Life with food and sleep, not soul or poetry. Crooked grow our limbs and we think ourselves mighty Gangly forms dancing tiny While great domes of landscapes given face Smile at each other and speak Venus, Apollo, Mercury, Hades All principles in the sky, too graceful to be understood And not wanting our foul tentacles of knowledge To grip them, happy to keep away from Us oily things. No, I don't like being human I don't like being greasy

It's strange How the myths Tell of reality in such parallel Speaking, preaching of a greater force When in fact that force is found within When we truly realize the simple Yet utterly complex truths Nothing is set in stone, but in mind We are in control of our own actions Our choices domino, and affect others Even in ways we could not possibly imagine Life is the ultimate gift; The fact of not knowing what comes After we have passed on and our soul departs Makes our lives all the more meaningful The meaning of life Is as simple and complex as that; Life To breathe, to move, to learn, To listen, to grow, and to know Face the hardships, Endure the pain, Learn from failure Learn from the pain To become stronger To become better Than those before you To create a better world Or perhaps see what lies before you Heal the damage that has been done Heal the broken bones of the world To regrow, to be stronger than before For life to once again thrive Just the way it should - Jay M August 27th, 2021

Life's Truths
Never to speak your words again (again, again, again...) Punished for transgressions of Hera's man (man, man, man...) So cruel is the heaven's queen (queen, queen, queen...) jealous wife sure can be mean (mean, mean, mean...) Poor Echo sentenced without jury (jury, jury, jury...) An innocent victim of divine fury (fury, fury, fury...) Deprived of voice, cruel price to pay (pay, pay, pay...) Tortured by things that she cannot say (say, say, say…)

Echo
Oh, how strongly I am missing Those simpler times when everybody would have listened Oh, how tired am I Of being ignored when the end is nigh Oh, how much did I pay For choosing chastity over Apollo's dark rays Oh, how much will I suffer From those evil hands that will treat me rougher Oh, how evil gods can be When mortals hurt their vanity Oh, oh, oh I wish I didn't know

What have I done... I curse thee, Nessus, for your evil wits! Your wicked whispers deprived me of my Sun His soul departed from the pyre Philoctetes lit And I am the assassin that is to blame I cannot live with this burden of my ****** My body will soon, too, be engulfed by the purifying flame! Thanatos, come, I won't delay our meeting any further

Shhh. Can you hear it? People are cheering for my sacrifice Well, okay, so be it I absolve my parents of the upcoming filicide Gods cursed me with my looks They cursed my mother with sinful pride Ignoring punishment for hubris described in books She sentenced me to die My youth won't save me Gods won't be appeased by regret It is, as it should be The Fates have cut my thread So, I'm going with my head held high I give my life for that of my people The sand has run out, the hour is nigh I am not a goddess' equal

I desired you Eros had stricken my heart I was mad with lust for you Every inch of my being, every part Some say I became mad That gods deprived me of sanity But how can love be so bad I accept no judgement from humanity When I first saw you My womb shivered My mind raced with ideas Like a wild ferocious river I ran to Daedalus, to help me with a contraption So that I can offer myself to you, shape my desire into action I have disguised myself as one of your kind You didn't wait a second Came from my behind Ecstasy waiting to happen You entered me and I was maddened by joy The device worked, I was happy to be your toy Never felt such pleasure as when I was filled with your seed I have craved for more, you swept me of my feet The child of our love now grows inside It was destiny Gods blessed our union It was meant to be

Where are you? I heard stories that you departed... What did you do? There's no way you got outsmarted Did you forget I am awaiting your arrival? Did you not think our house will be full of rivals? Did you forget you have a son? Why didn't you come when the war was done? Other wives have their husbands home Yet you are leaving me on Ithaca alone Come back, my love, return to your throne Come back before my heart turns to stone Ten years ago you were stolen by a war Ten years ago you stepped outside our door Yet I have been patiently waiting By fears and nightmares I was waking And I have cried my eyes out more than I can count This loneliness I feel is not something I can surmount Come back to our bed, to our tree Come back to me! Please! I beg the gods above Don't delay my beacon Don't hinder love The sun is dawning Another day without news Tomorrow's morning My watch continues I'll be once again looking out my window Not knowing if I am a wife or a widow You never should have left! Your forced departure was worse than a theft Athena, guide home your favourite Or don't you love him no more for his shrewdness and bravery? Oh gods... We mortals are but pieces in your lust for glorious wars

Waiting Penelope
Betrayed By Theseus left forgotten Afraid Those sweet lies were rotten Miserable Forsook her own kin Vulnerable Eros forced her to sin Discarded Like a worthless soul Brokenhearted Never again to feel whole Suicidal What had she done? No revival And nowhere to run

Ariadne's awakening
You who stirred the words into my soul, Brought them to life, animated them With allegory and wit. As if the Nine Muses had sung to my ear, And Calliope herself had donned me With the poems she'd once writ. Or Sappho of ****** among secretive violets, Absorbed by the lyre, she pens to revive it; Not the song, or the tune, But the calm way the song moved The violets across the field- This inspiration, she could wield. Don't you see now, how it's not poetry the poet will choose? For every poem the poet pens one shall require an equal Muse.

Calliope of the Muses
Let us go nightswimming And weave myths out of memories Let the stars shine over The corals of your heart With bioluminescent algae Glowing around your body As if a glow in the dark crucifix Beatific as the moment of death Smell the salty air Neptune's drunken breath And dance by the beach With the partygoers drunk In their mythmaking Ecstatic like a monk Weave the night, yes weave Our breaths into a myth Into Odysseus sailing the Aegean Into the miraculous with the Galilean

Nightswimming
if i disappeared would i become like echo? the words on my tongue fading into the wind, my spoken words echoing around me as i’m hallowed out by the silence. if i disappeared would i become like eurydice? my ghost lingering behind my husband who reaches the light with me not far behind; only to turn and **** me. if i disappeared would i be come like icarus? too stubborn and in love with the sun- only to meet my fate into a watery grave. —— if i disappeared would i too become a story? // a.
