Ordinary Gods
Apr 20 Apr 27, 2026Attention is where love actually lives. This week we practice looking longer — at the room, the stranger, the thing we keep walking past.
What have you been given that you haven't thanked yet?

I’ve been given you—
in late night calls and quiet screens,
in miles that should’ve broken us
but somehow turned to dreams.
I’ve been given your patience,
the way you stay, you choose,
even when the distance hurts
and there’s so much we could lose.
And I don’t say it enough—
don’t stop and really see…
that what I’ve been given all this time
is you loving me.

Unfortunately,
everything.
I should be doing
better than that.

everything.
in my life,
everything
seems to just have been
handed
to me.
yet i forget.
i forget that
everything i have
was at the expense of something else.
i wish
that i
can be
more
grateful.

I rescued a friend from the ungraetful clutches of a coward I knew
He didn't care about us not in the way he thought he did
Until it was too late until his doubt festered
Over six years of little trust turned into resentment
But I am to blame for taking away a friend
Thank goodness I left

I quietly thank everyday for the torment of light I carry in my shadow
An angel or a careful hazard -
I feel it in every smile or kind thought or gesture
It must have been an angel beside me right there
When I was born

I was given the knowledge that I am thought of when I am not present.
How can this give me an even stronger sense of self than my own actions?

I was never grateful

for what I have now—
parents who love me endlessly,

without them, I would
never be here.
My little sister,

who lends her shoulder

no matter what.
My beautiful family,

still standing,

still holding me together.
The human mind is never enough.

It forgets what it has

and complains about

what it doesn’t.
Life is simple—

appreciate the little things

while you still have them.
Because one day,

there will be nothing left of you

but bones and ashes

in the ground

I am a Christian and owe all things to God. I am thankful for my life, family and every day I thank him for blessing me with all things great and small.

All things of this world are gifts
Given, granted graciously by God
And yet often we forget to thank Him
For everything He has given us
So thank You, Almighty Lord of the Heavens and the Earth
For my family, myself
For my food, my shelter
And for the simple ability to breathe

My life is a blessing
That I sometimes forget
Isn't mine.
So I thank God
Today
Tomorrow
Until the day I die.

How strange.
An atom of nothingness
made apparent, unfolding.
Two lungs and a heart
tucked beneath a dome of bone.
Guts made to house butterflies,
Lines of feeling written across skin.
Two eyes, two ears, maybe two choices;
To gaze, or to be gazed upon.
All this, then of flesh
wrapped in you, and all of you.
Flesh made to ponder
why a likeness like you
Was borne life.

She gives me her hand,
gives me her shoulder to rest upon,
gives me her laughter,
gives me her love
I only hope that thank you
is enough for
all that she's done
and a promise to love her
always

You know I can tell you without hesitation that there is nothing I didn’t thank Him for. I say thanks for literally every little thing everyday. Even for the things I don’t have cause only He knows why… yes people should be more thankful no matter what.

I've never thanked
my parents for
my life, my smiles,
my happiness,
each achievement of mine—
behind everything,
they are there,
because without them
there'd be no life
and without it
no smiles, no happiness,
no achievements,
or anything.

Don't know, always tried to be thankful all I have been given. Little things as well as large things,Sometimes I forget my life is borrowed and the earth where I live is temporary. I guess you would say life in general can sometimes make one unthankful as it's hard to deal with and you can wish for death to come. Yet one does not really want to die. Thoughts can change in an instant and then you wonder why you thought that at all. Then you are thankful for every breath.

I have not given thanks for my marriage and husband.
When you young you dream of marriage being a bed of roses.
But alas it was a bed of thorns
So it was very hard to give thanks in this area.
One may forgive.
But forgetting is a different story

The quiet gift arrives
without ceremony,
a breath you didn’t earn,
a kindness left on your doorstep
by the day itself.
You carry it lightly,
almost forgetting
it was given at all.
Today, let your thanks
catch up to it,
an ordinary god
waiting patiently
to be named.
