Sitting by the window on a lonely summer night watching as the sun began dropping out of sight staring at my cup reflecting on the times I reach for the bottle filled with spirits, love and lies I've walked beneath the shadows of the trees I've bathed in the sunlight the warm waves washed me clean I put myself in the shoes of all that I do meet a mile is the measure humble pie is what I eat The thunderclouds are gathering around and in my head stormy skies bring wailing cries from those that have been wrecked dashed upon the rocks of hope so near yet so far slowly slip beneath the waves wishing on a star I've walked beneath the shadows of the trees I've bathed in the sunshine the warm waves washed me clean I put myself in the shoes of all that I do meet a mile is the measure humble pie is what I eat I see you standing all alone abandoned on the street the misty traces of your lies lining drawn cheeks the vacant stare that you share reveals the light within an emerging flower with the will to win I've walked beneath the shadows of the trees I've bathed in the sunlight the warm waves washed me clean I put myself in the shoes of all that I do meet a mile is the measure humble pie is what I eat
