I'd rather hear the uncomfortable truth
than "I'm doing well" scoffed as you storm past.
Clearly that isn't the ******* truth,
and I don't appreciate the lie.
Moreover,
I cared enough to ask
so don't sell us both short
with your knee-jerk reply.
"Keeping up appearances"
one might say;
"disrespecting those who care"
I would hear.
