I saw it on the news today
The details violent and gory
Another tragic death they say,
But it's just another story.
Another headline until it fades
From the collective memory.
Interest sadly quickly jades,
Attention spans last briefly.
Look at the war in Syria,
It never gets a mention
Nor do Egypt or Libya,
Is it done with conscious intention?
Or is it just that humanity
Has such a short attention span,
That self interest and vanity
Trump any care for their fellow man?
