Growing up there were rumours that an owl was a bad omen. If it perched in your compound, they said; it meant death for someone therein. It's just a myth. Give the bird a break, where is it supposed to perch, on mars?

Love owls! :D 
There are Barred Owls, Eastern Screech Owls, Barn Owls, Short-eared Owls, Long-eared Owls, Great Horned Owls, an occasional Northern Saw-whet Owls, and some Winter seasons there are an invasion of Snowy Owls! Love each sound from each! Some have an eerie sound...like the metallic hiss of the Barn Owl, or the Mnemonic: "Who cooks for you! Who cooks for you all!!!" from the Barred Owl. Very nice nocturnal bird sounds, which this birder loves to listen to.
