Mother Smith who was 104 years old
Beating the Odds in her life
Seen, Heard and Challenged
Being negatively that she won’t succeed
She went to college and got her BACHELORS DEGREE in EDUCATION
It seemed every excuse had a mission for Mother Smith to fail
Mother Smith then went to Graduate School and got her MASTERS
DEGREE
Not believing what the oppression wanted her to believe as she stayed focus, and determine to prove them wrong
Mother Smith lived the turmoil and anguish of voting rights during her time
Being Black, you had no right to vote
Exercising that right was prohibited during the Jim Crow Days
Mother Smith being a woman of Faith, Character and Dignity challenged those laws
She was going to vote no matter what
Mother Smith didn’t be still nor quite it
She made noises with her voice like a woodman’s Ax
She wasn’t going to surrender, but take aim at her own virtues
Her self-esteem ventured through courage and understanding
Inadequate wasn’t in her vocabulary
Being a proud
Black woman through academics
She was born American, achieving in America and standing for all people
Mother Smith was a statement of principle and valor
No blockade was going to keep her from voting as it was a given right
I consider her a Preparatory Warrior with a mission in her mind, and
Voting rights was her bulls eye target
Mother Smith simply “STEPED UP BEING FED UP
Destiny may have seemed far, but she brought it closer
Her heart honest and true
She had to pursue
Her encouraging words to our young people would be “MEASURE UP AND STAND UP”
Be the Man and Woman you were meant to be
Show the world and let them see
Mother Smith conquered and prospered
Her tomorrow came, and it was a new day
Welcome up, your place is ready
The Lord said, “Good and Faithful servant a job well done. I am pleased
Mother Smith was a member of my church, and died at 104
Her wisdom and understanding carried her
Her honor will carry all through her courage
Destiny is more than a direction, it’s a movement of fulfillment
Mother Smith’s motto would be “Shine like beacons my children as your future will be shining bright. You are the stars of tomorrow, but it starts today. Be courageous stepping out, and never stop learning through a Never Ending Process as you are the product into what will be developed in all your endeavors”
