Invisible That’s what I am From my phony grin To my hidden heart From my broken soul To my fake love Can’t you see me? And I know they love me That must be why They all surround me Screaming as I pass by “You need to be stronger” “Meaner, more assertive” And then when I break They ask “Since when were you hurting?” Can’t you see me? They tell me they need me And that my boundaries… Will be respected But when I rewrite my rules They say “Do you hate me?” Or “It’s because of him isn’t it?” “He’s no good for you” But didn’t you say I changed? That I’m happier now? Why do you want to keep me with you? Tied to you somehow? But I can’t really say that Can I? I love them so much But it’s a different love And when they keep me too close It keeps me from breathing Like their hands around my throat Can’t you see me? And they ask “Why are you gasping?” “I don’t want to hurt you” “He’s made you different” And now I just shut up Another clouded window Waiting to be truly looked into Can you really see me?
