She ambled to the park come rain or shine Unlike her earlier years, walking didn't come easily The faithful bench greeted her with its cedarwood smile I'm sure her daily walk was less than a mile... They flew from the trees, they flew from afar To them, she had no gender nor age, only kindness She fed the pigeons with love and a toothless grin Even the pigeons could see that true beauty is within... I forgot to mention that a hospital overlooked the park You know those places for healing and death Those places where most of us took our first human breath... She became very ill and was hospitalised For twenty-three days, she lay there mostly unconscious None of her relatives bothered to visit her-- Through the open window, the breeze freely blew Upon the breeze of love, a beautiful pigeon flew It would sit on her sleeping body for two hours every day And as mysteriously as it arrived, it flew away... The pigeon showed more care and love than her kith & kin Nature is our great teacher, selfishness is oft humankind's sin...
