Merriam-Webster Dictionary Word of the Day 26/04/2026 Some days I’m the load on a long, lonely road, the task no one chose, the weight that only grows. I’m the box marked feather that drops like bad weather, the sigh in the air when I step anywhere. I never meant to be such a slow gravity, but doubt has a way of darkening the day, a whispering drum that keeps telling me come, keeps telling me stay, keeps pulling me astray. Yet even what’s heavy can soften, can steady; even stones in the stream lose their edges to dream. So I rise, though I bend, and I try to befriend this burden I bear with a little more care, for I’m more than the ache, more than all that I take; I’m the one who survives, who keeps shaping their life into something more strong, something worthy of song.

What It Means Onerous means "involving, imposing, or constituting a burden." It typically describes something that is difficult and unpleasant to do or deal with.
