To be seen in behavior and patterns— that can be endured. But to be seen at the core, where the child still aches— that is unbearable. The greater the fear of being seen, the deeper the longing for it. She moved past the false self and touched the wound beneath. She saw not the performance, but the performer. Not the grandiosity, but the wound it guarded— a fragile shield for what was never meant to be hidden. It is called unillusioned, unflinching recognition. Some people are like their own fragrance— you may sense them, feel them linger, but the name of their secret is never truly yours to know. The more bitter its taste, the sweeter its aftertaste. Because the one who is truly independent is, by nature, unpredictable. And what is unpredictable cannot be controlled or reduced to manipulation.
