If I cannot be saved by my own pursuit of enlightenment and desire to become a better person If I must fast and grovel and beg Then it is not salvation but sycophancy

03/11/2026 I am dubious of claims that fasting and self-denial leads one towards salvation. In my experience, it can be all too easy to deny oneself basic care, usually leading one more towards self-hatred than towards anything holy, and thus offers little in the way of growth. In my opinion, it is far more difficult—and rewarding—to learn to love and take care of yourself.
