I am from the wealthiest country in the world,
from two parents who traveled the globe
and saw poverty that I will never know.
I am from poor parents who thought their calling
as missionaries was more important
than holding down full time jobs.
I am from heartache and sorrow times a million
that was rushed to be hidden
By marijuana, alcohol, and then hands up for Jesus.
I am from unconditional love, screaming matches,
affairs, burned hopes and dreams, and no boundaries.
I am from San Diego and Pasadena
and Arcadia and Temple City and Duarte.
The more East we went, the more trouble we found ourselves in.
It’s true what Michael W. Smith said,
“Go West young man, let the evil go east.”
I am from Japanese Fellowship church potlucks that I can still taste,
Pas Naz days and nights,
Faith Community Church,
Evangelical non-denominational churches that were secretly Baptist,
Church of the Open Door,
Assemblies of God churches,
God Has the Answer Church,
yet I remain more full of questions than ever before.
I am Kingdom come, come undone.
