the rain used to sing to me through these old skylights lead and glass that taught to look up for the light sifted through the flakes of chipped paint dust, leaves & old papers panning for gold sifting ashes for bones keepsake, a reminder the asphalt turned to water walking upon it you were prophetical rising up into the streetlight steam pouring from a manhole pavement angel that black bird staring only at me the silence you made closer heaven was only half as far that night stumbled into a dream daisies on your dashboard thorns in your palm nothing would ever be beautiful enough to show you candles flickered in my bedroom Heaving of your last sigh hours after you'd gone kissing off the shadows from eager lips a child's curiosity for answers used to press into you against that place just below your earlobe my chin on your shoulder the greed and taunt, the seduction, the clenched teeth, the thrill of success watching you wither into my chest had you seen it all now and if death could please just take you away from all this now because you knew... looking up for light because heaven was only half as far that night...
