Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder,
So she stood in front of the mirror
unable to see beyond what she defined as beauty.
Constantly seeking approval
from her beholders.
What she sees is not perfect
and that’s fine,
because she believes she does not possess
the lens to see beyond that reflection.
So she hands that lens to her judge,
believing they hold the vision
for her true self.
She stands before them,
projecting the image of
“I am what you see.”
That is the worst form of self-disparagement I know.
We behold ourselves
before anyone ever does.
Others only see
the reflection of what we declare ourselves to be.
So our outward projection
is nothing but
the inward reflection
of who we say we are
