I once asked an old man, “Where can I find peace?” He looked at me with eyes that had seen too many seasons and replied: “Peace, my son, is not in wealth, nor in the chorus of children who call your name. True goodness dwells in the breadth of understanding, and in a heart that remains steadfast... patient, unwavering, and calm. Do not perform your worship for an audience. If you do good, let your praise be a silent thanks to God. If you stumble, seek His forgiveness with a humble heart. Know this: there is no true goodness in this world save for in two kinds of people: The one who sins, recognizes his failing, and cleanses his soul with sincere repentance… and the one who races toward righteous deeds, striving so swiftly his own shadow cannot keep pace.”

The Measure of Goodness
I once asked an old man, “Where can I find peace?” He looked at me with eyes that had seen too many seasons and replied: “Peace, my son, is not in wealth, nor in the chorus of children who call your name. True goodness dwells in the breadth of understanding, and in a heart that remains steadfast... patient, unwavering, and calm. Do not perform your worship for an audience.
