street girl sitting on the bed again with Japanese music playing, the window open to early fall’s gentle breeze and gray mist that wraps around the trees and just-turning leaves, in and out between streetlights and heady air with cries from the street below where a street couple screams with no place to go but at each other when she’s angry at the world and so sad in her make-up—too much and sad rings and tattoos she can’t afford with hair orange and chopped off with knives instead of scissors and sunken cheeks because her scarecrow teeth are gone for **** habits and bad choices and you want to hug her but too afraid and too scared getting involved—no guts when her “man” comes, he looks the same —they could be brother and sister— have the same sunken face through red eyes and sore screaming throats after dark on sidewalks —scary in day— much more in dark— how do you feel?
