You told me you loved me as my arms held your head. “You love me?” I said. Your eyes wide, I felt your cry. I didn’t show you mine. When your pupils shrink and your eyes are bleak staring back at me. “Will you love me then?” When you no longer gleam. Afraid that I will not know until the final blow. Fearing the sharpness of your teeth, but I see the soft smile you give me.
