I planted this body when I died.
I relinquished my rights,
As an adult, as a female, as an American.
I sacrificed my precious
minutes and hours and days,
And served my own head on a silver platter.
I let you be right when I'm not sure, peeling back my layers
of pride and facade and fear
to be vulnerable and brave and honest.
I stood up to pour endless glasses of water.
How can I help but to give away
my bed and my food and my coat?
Of course.
I give what I can't keep
to gain what I can't lose.
All I want
is to love so hard
that you can't help but to see Jesus
when you look at me.
All I want
is to glimpse Jesus
next time I glance in the mirror.
And when it's time,
I'll die again,
and plant this physical body, too.
