You stared at me and slowly said "You are just like your mother" With your finger pointing in my face Then you stepped back Leaned up against the counter Crossed your arms over your chest and looked satisfied You wanted the words to cut me To hurt me To break my heart To make me feel like I hurt you as much as she did But what you didn't realize Is that my mother is everything I ever hope to be My mother is my greatest inspiration My best friend So when you said "You are just like your mother" A tear rolled down my cheek Not because I was hurt Because it was the greatest compliment I would ever get
