The propensity to further our own ambitions is the basic drive behind all human interactions Lives are ruined, friends are lost, yet dreams are fulfilled for a blessed few. The desire to bathe in the most money, drive the most grandiose cars, and to throw the most lavish Gatsby-esque parties, predisposes us towards putting our own emergency-oxygen mask on before helping others. In an increasingly self-centered world, a paltry few are able to enjoy their piece of he American Pie.
