Tonight is like any other night.
I tremble as I drift into the land of dreams,
Afraid what will come with the dawn.
In the morning I'll put on that fake smile,
A mask to hide my fear.
The day passes like a script in a play,
Going through the motions,
Through lines rehearsed over and over.
I'm just another actor on the world's stage,
My mask is one of many.
At home I return to a Greek tragedy,
A dysfunctional family doomed from the start.
I wear my mask and lose myself
In the fake and distorted world.
No one is who they really are.
I remove my mask and lie down once more,
Afraid of the coming tomorrow.
Afraid that I'll wake up in a world that's real,
Where I've lost my precious mask,
And I'll finally be forced to be me.
