Yesterday my 96 year old mother paid us a visit at the country house we are currently minding in the townland of Kilballyowen. The tossed bread, which is normally thrown to the hens, was incorporated into a traditional pain perdu, or en Anglais, a bread pudding. Afterwards, the dispossessed were rewarded avec Le Creuset, as there were good and crusty peckings to be had from all around the high cast iron edges.
