Does he become a "human-not-being"?  I like this idea.

Yes. Be, as if being were the task. A fine line of thinking , refined.

I've know many who were dead inside but still alive, it's almost an oxymoron isn't it:  Thought provoking writing, my friend.

I think therefore I am , when I quit thinking I am not . Therefore I am dead . Is being the expiration date on a bottle of milk ?

As a race, we can't ever be dead, but we may appear moribund.
