I'll leave all these words in letters I have written you,
Wondering if you'll ever read them
And know that everything in those letters
Were all the things I've longed to tell you
But never figured out how.
Like how your eyes sometimes look like the ocean,
And other times like the winter sky.
Or how your hips stick out,
So you don't ever need a belt to keep your pants up.
You'll never know how much I long to show you,
All the love that I could manage.
But then I realize that you would drown in it
And I would never be able to hold you again.
So I'll keep all of that love in the letters I write,
Hoping that you'll read them at midnight,
And know that those are the words
I have wanted to say,
But never have.
