you look at the clock, only three more hours you think don’t worry, this entire night will be over in a blink your body is tired but your mind is wide awake you don’t know how much more of this you can take you take a pill or two to help you sleep but how long will that last if you’re in too deep you pray for the torture to end, but the universe is bitter it’ll give an hour of sleep to make you feel better you rack your brain for new excuses and lies for when they ask about the dark circles under your eyes “i was up late studying” or “i slept till eight” you use either one and hope they take the bait but the truth is the dark circles under your eyes are shadows of an intruder who uses you as a disguise the truth is the dark circles under your eyes are the bruises from the fights that end at sunrise the truth is the dark circles under your eyes are proof that you are now insomnia’s prize insomnia is your only friend nowadays while everyone else leaves, she always stays
