both of them make you happy
one of them sometimes sad
both of them fill your heart up

Like love though gratitude can- as well stem from affection. I think the difference is in the possessiveness. Love can expect while gratitude is independently formed most of the time. We as a society have slandered the word Love we need to use Gratitude in its place :)

Your reasoning is quite ingenious..
we must have a conversion table, i suppose
for every measure of love, what would have  the corresponding count of gratitude
then we can settle only for gratitude, discounting love, avoiding trouble(too much demanded for seemingly too little on the plate)Once decided about it  the tide changed.
Then i start regretting for thinking so astutely and pretending smart..
what is this life , if we go that crafty, counting each single thing in terms of
function.Then what use a sunset, except a wee bit of ultra violet, good for skin!
Let the cuckoo sing, i am not going to analyse it's tone and tenor to make a judgement that its talent is not so great, in a realistic level..
That's why i let my love bite me on my chest..(not so hard though)
I am sure, after that poem on sunshine you are feeling sunny again!

Interesting premise.
But I'm not so sure gratitude can't make you miserable.
Having to feel too much of it towards another, eventually begins to feel like a form of slavery; being constantly lavished with gratitude, can make for a truly stifling and tiresome experience.
Still, in many specific instances, your slant is, no doubt, valid.

Gratitude is a graceful state whereby what is is not taken for granted most accepted as having our needs being met by some thing or measure...Love like God is beyond measurement or absolute comprehension. Oft it is said that God is Love suggestion equivelence and then so in such a way Love would be God. Either and neither is typically taken for granted in even an attempt to define truly. Yet so much discussion and debate ensues on each of these phenomanoms. 
I am not particulary reading love here as exclusive to a romantic notion. However it often is and I would say that as such a romantic notion it is one overly idealized notion, or thee one!!! 
As with Glinda asking Dorethy the question could have been which kind of witch are you? A good one or a wicked one? Not talking Eileen about you but between the topics discussed here. I do feel inclined about these things so make some attempts to some notes within my sphere of inner world. Getting it out as sunshine clear, well my dear pretty, well it is a long wet foggy cool spring and I want to cry!!!!!
