That fathomless chasm,
How sheer those depths,
What misery to await,
To succumb this world to silence,
Beneath thy voice resounds,
Entranced to follow,
A foregone echo,
From times,
All lost to long ago,
Into that eerie gloom;
I am swallowed,
How that sweet whisper of thee abruptly cease,
As depths's end is reached,
And to be alone again,
Where even no shadow choose to dwell,
Trapped,
Thy darkness my cell.
