Why do I do this?
To both you and myself?

Why do I *crave* your approval?
Why do I *need* your respect?

Can't I just be strong?
And move on?

Nope. I still need someone to tell me I have potential.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;I still need someone to give me that little but of encouragement when I'm too hard on myself. 
&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;I still need someone to sit me down and say, "I believe in you". 
&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;I still need someone to give me advice. 
&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;I still need someone to look up to. 
I respect you so much. 
We had our differences but all in all, you're still my role model. 

But to you, I'm nothing.

It's so hard and painful letting go of someone, but that's good, that's a very good thing ... that hurt means we were really close to someone and shared real things; it would be so easy to let go if we never were close to anyone, never shared anything, but where would that leave humanity?

When we write happy poems full of light, we write for the enjoyment of others, when we write sad poems full of darkness, we write for ourselves. I've always secretly preferred the darker ones, they somehow seem more honest ... they can heal, both the writer and the reader. Good work.

I want to comment on this one again. It's so easy to say, "Oh, you don't need anyone to believe in you, just believe in yourself, yadda yadda yadda", but it's bullshit, we are human, and we need people to help us, to push us, to validate us. Everyone does. But mentors come and they go, and the next one can't come along if the spot is already being filled, so try to look at it as a good thing. That old Zen proverb is true, "When the student is ready, the teacher will arrive".
