Cynics in their foolishness say, “Life is insignificant,” And I pity them as they Do not know the wonders of this world. When you understand That life is truly a gift, Precious and invaluable, You learn to appreciate all things. I wept taking in the beauties of yesterday And I weep taking in the beauties of today. The sound of the crickets which seem so commonplace, I express thanks to God for, The soup an elderly woman daily shares with me, I understand is not forever, The times I go biking by the shore Are kept in my heart’s memory, The moments spent with my loved ones, Are vague and tender images in my mind. I am overwhelmed with humility to be able to experience, And I cry tears of gratitude and joy.
