A different view than the usual. It is usually said that writing verse makes your words immortal. 

But perhaps in this age where the internet produces poetry, and even computers with AI produce it, perhaps poetry has gotten the commonality of another hotdog just like the last one.  Somehow I can't believe that viewpoint though. I think that if the poetry is good it will live on. 
"A thing of beauty is a joy for ever:
Its loveliness increases; it will never
Pass into nothingness; but still will keep
A bower quiet for us, and a sleep
Full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing." 

So said John Keats, at the beginning of his long poem,  "Endymion," and although when he died he was so discouraged that the only thing he wanted written on his gravestone was, "Here lies One Whose Name was writ in Water." nevertheless, we all know that that was never to be true.  But it is sad how a poet can get discouraged. And when I visited Keat's grave in Rome, it made me sad. The rewards are very few.

But thank you, Joe, for you poem and for making me think.
